How will you be celebrating Christmas?

This is my year to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas nights. I actually am looking forward to a peaceful and less stressful Christmas this year. I sent my kids to our old home to visit their grandparents and cousins so they are getting all the trappings of the holiday. I am hoping to find the time to run across town and get real Mexican tamales before going to work tomorrow night so that I can have Christmas Eve tamales at work like has been our family tradition for longer than I can remember. Otherwise, a quiet night of serving others seems to meet a need I have for less chaos in my life.

My kids on the other hand are probably thriving on the chaos of Christmas with the extended family. :)

Christmas for me is a two-day affair of family gatherings.

For Christmas Day it's lunch at my parents' house, which is always me, my parents, my brother and sister, and my uncle. Other extended family sometimes join us depending on who's around and what else they might be doing, but this year I think it's just going to be the core group of six.

Then on Boxing Day my uncle hosts a more low-key affair at his house, with just snacks and light food on offer rather than a proper meal, and extended family members will often join us then. Part of the reason this has become a tradition for us is that I have a cousin who's a big soccer fan, and Boxing Day is one of the key match days in the English Premier League, but he doesn't have access to the matches so needs to rely on people like my uncle to watch them. There'll also be cricket on earlier as there's nearly always a test match starting on Boxing Day, this year not being an exception. We don't just get together to watch sport, but it's there for those who are interested, and the rest are free to do other things.

Well I will be cooking what was supposed to be “Thanksgiving dinner” for “Christmas dinner”. I had the turkey for Thanksgiving but when I got to thinking about all that cooking, I opted out for spaghetti instead lol. So that gave me about a month to get everything together and I feel good about it. I'm actually looking forward to cooking. Besides cooking I will be doing a movie marathon. There's some movies I want to see, so I'm gonna do that. I expect everything to be very low key, quiet, and peaceful. That's exactly how I like it. Afterglows are always fun!

I hope everybody enjoys their Christmas and may those who are having a difficult time feel a warm embrace from our Heavenly Father knowing that they are loved.

I've been spent the weekend down in Houston with my family. Today, I'm driving back to Dallas to spend it with family up there, and tonight going to Christmas Eve service. Tomorrow, I'll be going to Christmas Day services and then hosting a Christmas movie marathon for friends who don't have a place or need a break from their families.

We're celebrating Christmas the way we do every year. Today my mom and I will make a birthday cake for the Infant Jesus and some chocolates to put in our stockings. We'll get the stockings out and fill them, and then my mom will add a few surprises after I go to bed.

Tomorrow we'll spend the day at home again. We'll all open presents and eat Christmas dinner and enjoy the day.

Going to a Christmas Eve service later, and then out to eat with family. Will also be spending time with family tomorrow for Christmas Day. Everyone usually goes through their stockings and opens presents initially, then does their own thing for awhile (enjoying their gifts or preparing for the meal). After opening presents, I like spending time with my nephew, either helping him set up what he got, or playing Nintendo 64 games. Lastly, we have an epic turkey dinner together, and will take it easy the rest of the day - watching Christmas movies.
