Why? Well for a start as I use the KJV you would class me as a heretic.
Anyway its not worth any further comment so I am out of here, actually thinking probably for good.
I used the KJV for the first 20 years of my Christian life. When God speaks to me using Scripture, I get the KJV version. Maybe it is because my long term memory has stored the KJV in my head, so all God has to do is to draw out from my memory the Scripture He wants me to be reminded of.

We must remember from from 1611, to the 1970s, thousands upon thousands of souls got saved and filled with the Spirit when only the KJV was the principal translation that people used (in the Protestant churches).

I have digested God's word fine with the ESV

He has also told me that God told him personally there will be a pre-trib rapture.

ESV is an excellent Bible put together by some of the best theologians of our time.

Pray for your friend and try your best to share the truth with him as you have received straight from the Bible.

Personally I would take everything that he shares with a large grain of salt.

No reason not to give him all the love you can.

I don't think God told him that at all.

I don't know your friend, but many KJV-only believers seem to be highly allergic to critical thought. Don't fall into that. Critical thinking and faith can nourish each other, and we are called in Ephesians 5:15 not to be unwise, but wise.

I have also heard many times from different pastors I've watched online that KJV is the bible to use. I dont know why, but it seems that so many people that have spent years walking close to Christ end up coming to the same conclusion. So could there be some truth to it?

God knows if He has spoken to this man or not. It's not our place to say whether that happened or not.

My friend challenged me to try it for now on and see what changes. I decided to take it.

I just noticed there is a big smear campaign against the KJV and also the Reformation, so I am on to something. I will keep it as my primary Bible for now on, God's perfect Word.

He doesn't like the new versions and told me it has no power. I have digested God's word fine with the ESV and get conviction from it when I read verses condemning my sins.

Even though he claims to have put his trust in Christ can I really trust everything he says? He has also told me that God told him personally there will be a pre-trib rapture.

Maybe he is just assuming God told him these things? I'm careful when people claim God spoke to them in regards to doctrine.

So did you ask him exactly how God told him that?

There have been various problems associated with the lives and beliefs and practices of some "only this" advocates for KJV and other versions.

The truth is, we have to rely on the Father in heaven to grant us understanding no matter what version we have on hand.

RSV is much easier to understand to English people, AND is as accurate as the KJV in everything that matters.

When I see a large amount of people completely bashing a concept it catches my interest, as well. Only because I've come to notice that there's nothing that can start a riot like a truth nobody wants to accept. It is interesting that some Christian practices aren't considered "politically correct" in our country and politicians will try to discredit God but you'll have a mob after you if you say anything about any other religion. Why is it that it's right to tolerate everyone under the sun except Christians? There must be something to it...

The KJV has been around since the reformers. Now everyone is abandoning it and we notice people have no regeneration or understanding of Biblical salvation.

We live in the laodicea era. Either people are hyper legalistic or hyper grace. They are never in the middle most of the time. Which is justified by blood and sanctified by blood to be Holy.

They like to attack the reformation and the Bible.

I would pray about it and try out the KJV to see if there is a difference when using it.

The Bible has power.

Do not be ashamed for being a Protestant or Lutheran or Baptists or Pentecostal or what denomination you may be. We've been around since Martin Luther the forefather of our reformation.

When they stop talking about Jesus and leave out his cross and blood. This Is what happens.

"
18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."

Just reading through the Bible shows clearly why.
Jesus Himself said if you want to follow Him, the world hates you because it hates Him.

I suspect the issue is that people in general loathe change. They grew up with the KJV and feel uncomfortable with anything different, so they simply decided that it was the one true version of the bible for all eternity for everyone. It doesn't matter if older manuscripts were discovered or any translation errors or even that the usage of the English language has changed around them over the centuries. They must believe the KJV is the only true bible because otherwise they might have to acknowledge that other things are also different than they were back when they were ten years old. :)

Please don't do that friend. I am KJV as well and I am very proud to be. Who wants to be normal? Broad is the path to destruction and most are taking it.

God is a very big God and He can and does speak through anything He so desires. I am not KJV only but I am drawn to it and so therefore I use it. I have all the others in my library including a catholic bible and I use them when I am seeking something so that I get a good all around idea of what it is saying.
Use whatever you are comfortable with and when a doctrinal issue springs forth, God will point it out if need be.

You mean being in the middle of legalistic and hyper grace is justified by blood to be Holy? Could you further explain?
I've never heard anyone bring that idea up before.

I asked my hubby for a KJV for Christmas so hopefully I will have my own by tomorrow!! Merry Christmas by the way :)

Basically God bought us with his blood. And since he gave us his Holy Spirit we can live Holy lives for him. But all credit goes to God so we cannot boast.

For KJV I would look at the Cambridge ones they are very nicely crafted.

Thank you Scotty for your kind words. I have just got upset personally a few times when the the KJV is mentioned and I'm tired of it, its hard enough to be a Christian in this world let alone having to go through stuff on here.
Not by everyone but the few certainly have soured it.
I now only post occasionally and sort of look around a bit.
I always enjoy your balanced and biblical comments.
God bless you
