How can worshipping God be a sin?

Worship is not a sin. Breaking any of God's commandments are sin however.
* Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; James 2:11; 1 John 3:4

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

In times of ignorance God winks at but when as knowledge of the truth has come God calls on all men everywhere to repent and believe his Word (Acts 17:30-31)

God's is calling his people to come out from following the traditions of men to worship him in Spirit and in truth.

Hope this helps

Please cite from the Bible where it says we are to worship on Saturday. It says to rest.

It is not about worship. This has been posted earlier. We should worship God everyday of the week. It is about sin and breaking God's any of God's Commandments that is the problem. Those who continue to KNOWINGLY practice sin will not enter into the KINGDOM of heaven.

God's 4th Commandment of the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH (Our Saturday) is about dedicating the whole day to God starting Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, not doing any of our own work. It is specific and more then rest it is also not doing any work or business activities including buying, shopping and selling as well as domestic and secular work.

The 4th Commandments says...

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], Remember the SABBATH DAY, to keep it holy [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD : in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: [WHY?] [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: why the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. [GENESIS 2:1-3]

GENESIS 2:1-3 is INDEED the ORIGIN of the SABBATH (First Sabbath). It is the SEVENTH DAY of creation that God blessed, set apart and made a HOLY DAY for all mankind. Nearly every section of GENESIS 2:1-3 is repeated in EXODUS 20:8-11 of God's 4th commandment as the reason why we are to REMEMBER God's Sabbath.

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made. [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY: because that in it he had RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] from all his work which God created and made.

The Hebrew word for RESTED used here is שׁבת; shâbath (H7673). It's meaning is; to repose, that is, desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causatively, figuratively or specifically): - (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, KEEP SABBATH, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

שׁבת; shâbath (H7673) is the ORIGIN or ROOT word for שׁבּת; shabbâth (H7676). shabbâth meaing is the intermission between SABBATHS and the continuation meaing from one SABBATH to the Next SABBATH continuation or EVERY SABBATH. It's application is in EXODUS 20:8 to REMEMBER [EVERY] Sabbath [shabbâth H7676]

Jesus says it was made for mankind; human beings, not Jews.

MARK 2:27 [27], And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man [G444 ἄνθρωπος mankind; human beings], and not man for the sabbath

This links GENESIS 2:1-3 above with EXODUS 20:8-11 which is God's 4th Commandment

God's BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY and made it a HOLY DAY of REST as a MEMORIAL of creation. God's 4th Commandments is a memorial of CREATION and starts off by telling us to "REMEMBER" the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH to keep it as a HOLY DAY.

NO WORK of any kind is allowed. It is a HOLY DAY dedicated to God alone. This means from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.

WHEN DOES THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK START?

GENESIS 1:4-5
[4], And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
[5], And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

A day in God's time is the night (darkness) and the light make up one day. The DAY in God's WORD starts at SUNSET and ends the following SUNSET. So God's 4th Commandment Sabbath would start Friday at SUNSET and end Saturday at SUNSET.

ALL UNECCESSARY WORK TO BE DONE BEFORE FRIDAY SUNSET

EXODUS 16:22-23
[22], And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
[23], And he said to them, This is that which the LORD has said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath to the LORD: bake that which you will bake to day, and seethe that you will seethe; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

MARK 15:42, And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath

The preparation day is the 6th day of the week. This includes preparing to stop all business and secular work as well as any domestic work; cooking, cleaning; shopping, buying and selling that can be done on any other day of the week.

IT IS LAWFUL TO DO GOOD ON THE SABBATH?

MATTHEW 12:5-12
[5], Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
[6], But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
[7], But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless.
[8], For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day
[9], And when he was departed from there, he went into their synagogue:
[10], And, behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
[11], And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
[12], How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

MARK 2:27, And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath

It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.

WHAT IS LAWFUL ON GOD'S SABBATH?

1. Remembering the creator and his creation (Exod 20:8-11)
2. Rest from all unnecessary work (Ecodus 20:10-11)
3. Doing good (Matt 12:12)
4. Prayer (Acts 16:13; Matt 21:13)
5. Worship the creator (Isaiah 58:13-14; Ex 34:14; 1KING 9:6; Rev 14:6-12)

Song, praise, bible study, helping others, preaching the gospel, resting, prayer, seeking God, remembering the creator and his creation. Walking in nature, going to church with like minded believers. (too many scriptures)

WHAT IS NOT LAWFUL ON GOD'S SABBATH?

WORK; all business and secular work as well as any domestic work; cooking, cleaning; shopping, buying and selling that can be done on any other day of the week and anything to do with work (Exodus 20:8-11; Ex 16:22-23; Matt 21:13).

.............

There is no purpose in FOLLOWING any of God's LAWs including God's 4th Commandment SABBATH if it is NOT done through FAITH that works by LOVE because it is ONLY as GOD writes his LAW to LOVE in our hearts that we can take up our beds to follow him. LOVE is the fulfilling of GOd's LAW in those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD (Rom 13:8-10)

Hope this helps

So having our worshippn Sunday does not bother you? Then what is this rant about? Seeing you have not or can not show any scripture saying we must gather for worship on Saturday, I think this thread is pointless.

There is no rant. Only God's WORD is provided. Breaking God's LAW is the problem not what day you worship on. If you are not breaking God's LAW there is no problem. If you are breaking God's LAW including God's 4th commandment then you have a problem because breaking any of God's commandments is sin (1 John 3:4).

I suggest you read the two posts above slowly and carefully. It seems you have not read them but simply chosen to ignored them and all the scriptures provided in them to help you. You are free to believe as you wish. Your salvation is between you and God. You answer only to God come judgment day as we all do. As it is written, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

May God help you as you seek him through his Word.

I can't tell what you have issue with. I thought it was Christian holding thier worship services on a day other than the Sabbath. I mean that seems to be the gripe. Worship is not rest. I am very tired after worship. I usually take a nap when I get home. I think having worship services on the Sabbath would be sinful.

Hello all,

This thread is for friendly discussion only. So please be nice here.

The challenge I am putting up here is for anyone to show even one scripture that says God's 4th Commandment of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11) which was spoken and written by God himself to his people, has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

Can anyone please show me where in all the bible does is say (SOLA SCRIPTURA; Scripture only please)...

1. That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?

2. That Jesus is a Sabbath?

3. The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?

4. Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?

5. Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?

6. That says that Jesus ever kept the first day (Sunday)?

7. That tells us to keep the first day in honour of the resurrection of Christ?

8. Where the first day is ever given any sacred name?

9. That affirms that any of the apostles ever kept the first day as the Sabbath?

10. From any apostolic writings that authorizes Sunday observance as the Sabbath of God?

11. Where we are told not to work on the first day of the week?

12. That says the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

13. That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

14. Where the apostles ever taught any convert to keep the first day of the week as a Sabbath?

15. Where the first day was ever appointed to be kept as the Lord's Day?

16. Where the first day of the week is ever called the Lord's Day?

17. That says that the first day of the week was ever sanctified and hallowed as a day of rest?

18. That says that the Father or the Son (Jesus) rested on the first day of the week?

19. That says that Jesus, Paul or any other of the apostles taught anyone to observe the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

20. That calls the seventh day the “Jewish Sabbath” or one text that calls Sunday the “Christian Sabbath”?

21. Telling man to keep the first day of the week holy or to worship or rest on the first day of the week?

22. Authorizing anyone to set aside God's Sabbath and observe any other day?

23. Showing any of the apostles keeping the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

24. Authorizing someone to set aside the fourth Commandment and observe any other day of the week?

25. Where any apostle taught us to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

26. Declaring that the seventh day is no longer the Eternal Sabbath day?

27. Where Sunday is now appointed to be kept as the New Testament Sabbath or holy day?

...................

Something to think about here because we are all accountable to God come judgment day where we will all be judged by the Word of God (John 12:47-48).

God's Word makes it very clear that if we follow the teachings of men over the Word of God we are not following God...

MATTHEW 15:3-9 [3],
[3], But he answered and said unto them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
[4], For God commanded, saying, Honor your father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death.
[5], But you say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift devoted to God, whatsoever you might have received from me;
[6], And honors not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have you made the commandment of God void by your tradition.
[7], You hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
[8], These people draw near unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
[9], But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

If we are KNOWINGLY breaking ANY of God's commandments we are not worshipping God.

Look forward to your thoughts...

.
Where in the scripture does it declare that the Sabbath has been abolished?

Galatians 5:18
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

The Galatians were told by Paul that they are not under the law. Since the law includes the Sabbath, therefore the Sabbath was abolished by Paul.

Nope, I have no gripe and nope you have been told more than 3x the same thing that the issue and problem has never been over when to worship God so continuing down that line does not change the subject. You have been provided with many posts now saying that SIN is the problem with supporting scriptures showing why sin is the problem. It is not rocket science and it is not difficult to understand. I suggest you read your bible.

Where in the scripture does it declare that the Sabbath has been abolished?

Hello klutedavid,

There is not one scripture in all of God's WORD that says that God's 4th Commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a HOLY day. This is a teaching and tradition of men that has lead many to break the commandments of God from the Roman Catholic Church.

You may need to read your bible more David. I am suprised you asked such a question. Just looking at the NEW TESTAMENT alone from Matthew through to Revelation we read that God's 10 Commandments which includes the 4th commandment is a requirement for Christians that is to be obeyed by FAITH that works by LOVE as a result of the NEW COVENANT promise of a new heart (Hebrews 8:10-12)

*GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS AS TAUGHT BY JESUS AND THE APOSTLES IN THE NT.
*ALL OF GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT (DUTY TO GOD).
*ALL OF GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT (DUTY TO MAN).

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9).

Galatians 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. The Galatians were told by Paul that they are not under the law. Since the law includes the Sabbath, therefore the Sabbath was abolished by Paul.

Not really David you have a wrong interpretation of the scriptures here and miss the chapter context in Galatians 5.

GALATIANS 5:1-25
[1], Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
[2], Behold, I Paul say to you, that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
[3], For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
[4], Christ is become of no effect to you, whoever of you are justified by the law; you are fallen from grace.
[5], For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
[6], For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which works by love.
[7], You did run well; who did hinder you that you should not obey the truth?
[8], This persuasion comes not of him that calls you.
[9], A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
[10], I have confidence in you through the Lord, that you will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he be.
[11], And I, brothers, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offense of the cross ceased.
[12], I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
[13], For, brothers, you have been called to liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
[14], For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[15], But if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you be not consumed one of another.
[16], This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
[17], For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that you would.
[18], But if you be led of the Spirit, you are not under the law.
[19], Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[20], Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[21], Contentions, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
[22], But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
[23], Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
[24], And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
[25], If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

For example lets go through the Chapter and see why...

...................

KEY POINTS OF GALATIANS CHAPTER 5

v1 is a call to liberty and not to be entangled in the yoke of bondage of the shadow laws of
v2 CIRCUMCISION if you focus on the shadow Christ will not profit you.
v3 If you think you need CIRCUMCISION you need to do all the laws of Moses.
v4 If you think you are justified by the law you are fallen from GRACE. *We are saved by GRACE (Ephesians 2:8) not by the works of the LAW.
v5 We receive righteousness by Faith through God's Spirit.
v6 CIRCUMSISION is nothing but faith that works by LOVE
v7 To believe otherwise is to depart from the truth.
v8-9 This teaching does not come from God and is error.
v11 Paul does not preach CIRCUMCISION but the cross of Christ
v10;12 Those teaching CIRCUMCISION for salvation are false teachers.
v13 We have been called to liberty but do not use this liberty as a reason to SIN (FLESH is sinful mind)
v14 The law is fulfilled (OBEYED) in LOVE * see ROMANS 13:8-10
v15 do not fight each other
v16 Walk in God's SPIRIT and you will not practice SIN (breaking God's Commandments 1 John 3:4; Romans 7:7; James 2:11; Romans 3:20)
v17 You cannot be in the Spirit if you follow a sinful mind.
v18 If you are led of God's Spirit you will not be UNDER (condemned) THE LAW

* UNDER THE LAW here means in CONEXT that we are not saved by the LAW we are saved by GRACE. To be UNDER THE LAW or seeking to be saved through the LAW without God's SPIRIT by yourself only shows us we are SINNERS and condemns us (See ROMANS 7) because God's LAW (10 Commandments) only gives us a KNOWLEDGE of what sin is and we have a sinful human nature or mind (the FLESH). Therefore to be "UNDER THE LAW" here means to be CONDEMNED by the LAW

ROMANS 3:19-20 [19], Now we know that what things soever the law said, it said to them who are UNDER THE LAW: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. [20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.

v19-21 NOTICE HERE THE WORKS OF THE SINFUL MIND [Flesh] PAUL show the ROOT CAUSES of the SINFUL MIND [FLESH] that all lead to the BREAKING of GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS, through not having LOVE. Those following the SINFUL MIND [FLESH] breaking God's Commandments do NOT enter God's KINGDOM.

*ADULTERY (Exodus 20:14),

*FORNICATION (means UNLAWFUL union part of Adultery)
MATTHEW 19:9 [9], And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her who is put away does commit adultery.

"Fornication" Greek G4202; πορνεία; inappropriate contenteia; por-ni'-ah; From G4203; harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively idolatry: - fornication.

"Fornication" Hebrew; [Unlawful union] H2181 זנה; zânâh; zaw-naw' A primitive root (highly fed and therefore wanton); to commit adultery (usually of the female, and less often of simple forniciation, rarely of involuntary ravishment); figuratively to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah): - (cause to) commit fornication, X continually, X great, (be an, play the) harlot, (cause to be, play the) harlot, (commit, fall to) whoredom, (cause to) go a-whoring, whorish.

*UNCLEANESS (ἀκαθαρσία; akatharsia; From G169; impurity (the quality), physically or morally: - uncleanness.) This means and MORAL IMPURITY and is in relation to God's 10 Commandments which are MORAL LAWS.

*LASCIVIOUSNESS (COVETEOUSNESS leading to LUST; Exodus 20:17)
(ἀσέλγεια; aselgeia; From a compound of G1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed σελγής selgēs (of uncertain derivation, but apparently meaning continent); licentiousness (sometimes including other vices): - filthy, lasciviousness, wantonness (lust).
Looseness; irregular indulgence of animal desires; wantonness; lustfulness. Who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lasciviousness. Eph 4. 2. Tendency to excite lust, and promote irregular indulgences.

*IDOLATRY (Exodus 20:4-5)

*WITCHCRAFT or SORCERY (Exodus 20:3) no other God's
(φαρμακεία; pharmakeia; From G5332; medication (" pharmacy" ), that is, (by extension) magic (literal or figurative): - sorcery, witchcraft. Websters' Witchcraft, [witch and craft.] The practices of witches; sorcery; enchantments; intercourse with the devil. 2. Power more than natural).

*HATRED (Exodus 20:13) Hatred starts in the heart like Adultery and is the root of murder.
1 JOHN 3:15 [15], WHSOEVER HATES HIS BROTHER IS A MURDERER; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

*VARIANCE (Exodus 20:13)
(ἔρις;eris a quarrel or fighting, that is, (by implication) wrangling: - contention, debate, strife, variance. In a state of dissension or controversy; in a state of enmity. Websters)

*JEALOUSIES (EXODUS 20:17) the root cause of coveteous, envy and lust

*WRATH (Exodus 20:13) anger can lead to hatred and murder

*STRIFE (Exodus 20:13) ἐριθεία CONTENTION

*SEDITIONS (Exodus 20:13) διχοστασία Division and disunion

*HERESIES Exodus 20:3) αἵρεσις properly a choice, that is, (specifically) a party or (abstractly) disunion. (" heresy" is the Greek word itself.): - heresy [which is the Greekord itself], sect. [not true; truth]

*CONTENTIONS (Exodus 20:13) φθόνος Probably akin to the base of G5351; ill will (as detraction), that is, jealousy (spite): - envy.

*MURDER (Exodus 20:13) φόνος this is where all hatred, variance, jealousies, wrath, strife. seditions, heresies and contention all lead to murder and start in the heart.

*DRUNKENESS (Exodus 20:13) (μέθη intoxication of the mind) killing yourself. This can lead to no control of the FLESH [SINFUL MIND] opening the door for temptation.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:19-20 [19], What? know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? [20], For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

*REVELINGS (Exodus 20:13) κῶμος; From G2749; a carousal (as if a letting loose): - revelling, rioting, feasting [as above no conrol] to make merry; indulge in boisterous festivities. boisterous merrymaking or festivity. [see also Drunkeness]

These are the works of the FLESH [SINFUL MIND], the ORIGIN of where SIN comes from that lead to breaking God's Commandments first in the MIND then outwardly.

v22-26 LOVE is the fullfilling of God's LAW * Links to ROMANS 13:8-10 and JAMES 8:12

...............

SO no David as shown above you have taken one scripture from Galatians 5 and taken it out of CONTEXT to try and make it say something that it is NOT. The whole chapter upholds God's 10 Commandments. God's 4th commandment is one of the 10 Commandments that Jesus and all the writers of the NEW TESTAMENT uphold and teach as shown in all the linked scripture in this post.

Hope this helps.

I just showed you that we are not under the law.

Galatians 5:18
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

See LGW and the context of this chapter confirms that we are not under the bondage of the law.
We are not under the condemnation of the law.
Why do you say that we are under the condemnation of the law?
You may need to read your bible more David. I am suprised you asked such a question.
You are using an ancient interpretation of the scripture. The Catholics also follow the ten commandments.
Christians are not under the law, if we were under the law we would be circumcised.

Hi David,

Your interpretation of "NOT UNDER THE LAW" is that God's 10 Commandments are no longer a Christian requirement. God's WORD does not teach this. To be "UNDER THE LAW" means to be CONDEMNED by it because by the law is the KNOWLEDGE of SIN (ROMANS 3:19-20).

Galatians 5 teaches we are NOT saved by God's LAW it only gives us a knowledge of what sin is and condemns us of sin. We are saved by Faith in Christ alone.

You were shown in post # 389 linked in detail that you were pulling scripture out of CONTEXT in GALATIANS 5:18 showing scripture by scripture from v1 to v22. That we are only saved by FAITH in God's WORD. OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is a fruit of faith by walking in God's Spirit.

Galiatians 5:18 is not saying that God's 10 Commandments are abolished. It is saying that we do not have salvation by the works of the law and God's Spirit establishes God's LAW by Faith in the life of the BEIEVER.

You are using an ancient interpretation of the scripture. The Catholics also follow the ten commandments. Christians are not under the law, if we were under the law we would be circumcised.

You miss the meaning of Galatians 5 here David. We do not follow the 10 Commandments to be saved. We BELIEVE and FOLLOW GOD'S WORD by FAITH by walking in GOD'S SPIRIT. FAITH in God's WORD ESTABLISHES God's LAW in the life of the BELIEVER as a fruit of FAITH in Christ alone our hope of Glory!

ROMANS 3:21 [31], Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yes, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW.

links to...

ROMANS 8:4 [4], THAT THE RIGHTOUESNESS OF THE LAW MIGHT BE FULFILLED IN US WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.

links to...

GALATIANS 5:16 [16], This I say then, WALK IN THE SPIRIT, AND YOU WILL NOT FULFILL THE LUSTS OF THE FLESH.

This is why Jesus says...

JOHN 14:15 [15] If you LOVE me KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.

because LOVE is the fulfilling of GOD'S LAW in those who BELIEVE God's WORD..

ROMANS 13:8-10 [8], Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for HE THAT LOVES ANOTHER HAS FULFILLED THE LAW. [9], For this, YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT KILL, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, YOU SHALL NOT COVET; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [10], LOVE WORKS NO ILL TO HIS NEIGHBOR; THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING [doing] OF GOD'S LAW.

Sorry David, God's WORD disagrees with you.

Hope this helps.

P.S. CIRCUMCION is not one of the 10 Commandments it is a Shadow law from the Mosaic BOOK of the covenant. Paul is using it as an example to show we are not saved by the law but by what the law points to in the NEW COVENANT promise of God's LAW written on the heart to LOVE.

Explain:
Jesus saying that what we eat doesn't makes us unclean but what comes out of the heart.
Paul: There is nothing unclean.
Eat everything that is sold in the butcher shop without problems of conscience...

Those 4 laws had nothing to do with the law of Moses. They were a rabbinical invention (laws of Noah) that gentile proselytes had to observe to attend synagogues.
The referenced laws, including about refraining from blood, came directly from Moses. However, this is not a debate forum. We are also to address our posts to the OP, not others. If you want to debate me, PM me.

Just bumping this again in case anyone would like a go at answering it...

[5], But you say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift devoted to God, whatsoever you might have received from me;
[6], And honors not his father or his mother, he shall be free.

None of the laws of Moses have been repealed. However, Gentile Christians do not have to keep the law of Moses. See Acts 15.

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

Greetings.

24We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

Farewell.
I agree. If we are turning to God, we should follow those instructions. Now read verse 21, "For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath." I believe Paul was encouraging new believers to stop following idols and then go and learn the rest every Sabbath.

I agree. Since we believe Paul and Paul tells us to imitate him just as he imitates Jesus, why would we stop keeping the Sabbath. We all agree that Jesus kept the Sabbath. To "imitate" is pretty clear.

Hello all,

[5], But you say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift devoted to God, whatsoever you might have received from me;
[6], And honors not his father or his mother, he shall be free.

LoveGodsWord,
This is a very old topic and legalists, Seventh Day Adventists, and Messianic Jews will keep bringing it up. And they are in error because they do not really understand who Jesus is as "the-Word-of-God-made-flesh" nor do they understand the freedom in Christ which the Apostles taught.

The 4th Commandment (and much of the Mosaic Law) was not abolished but was fulfilled and re-interpreted by Jesus Himself, who is the Lord of the Sabbath. The early Church was not mistaken in this.

The Lord of the Sabbath is an expression describing Jesus which appears in all three Synoptic Gospels, Matthew 12:1-8, Mark 2:23-28 and Luke 6:1-5. ... Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

In the first Jerusalem Church Council in Acts 15, the leaders agreed to drop the Jewish requirements on Christians and did not even mention keeping the Sabbath: “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood." That was it; nothing more. And now many like yourself want to re-institute those symbolic-prophetic Jewish laws which the Lord Jesus fulfilled in His ministry, on the Cross, in the Resurrection, and in God's sending the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Not only in Acts 15, which eliminated the Jewish ceremonial requirements for Gentile Christians, but we also hear from Paul in Romans 14:4-6 (I encourage all to read the entire chapter): "Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord." Although changing the holy day from Saturday to Sunday (or to all days) is never commanded, it is clearly allowed.

Historically, in everywhere but Israel, the early Church quickly moved to gathering for worship on the first day of the week (Resurrection Sunday) and eventually the "weekend" (both Saturday and Sunday) became days of rest and/or worship. Are you saying that the Church (now essentially Gentile believers) was wrong in doing this? Since Jesus (the King of kings and Lord of the Sabbath) came, died for us on Good Friday, was Resurrected on following Sunday, and began the Kingdom of God on earth, are not all days now equally Sabbatical and holy?

Perhaps our listeners would benefit from the Apostolic teachings about the purpose of the Law in Judaism. When Paul condemned relying upon “works of the law” in Galatians and elsewhere, he certainly had in mind circumcision, food laws, and the Sabbath. He kept the moral laws intact as applicable to everyone, but these other particularly Jewish cultural, ceremonial, and prophetic things no longer held the same value before God for Christian believers. The Incarnation of God in Christ Jesus fulfilled the reason for the existence of these laws in the first place. It is now faith in Christ which matters to God. And of course, from that faith eventually comes moral behavior and good works.

The Mosaic laws were meant to guard Israel until the arrival of Christ. This was the matter of contention between Paul and the believers in Galatia, and it is this issue which consumes the author in Galatians 3:19-25 :. “Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring would come to whom the promise had been made; and it was ordained through angels by a mediator. Now a mediator involves more than one party; but God is one. Is the law then opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could make one alive, then righteousness would indeed come through the law. But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian.”
The meaning here is quite clear to me.
