Man falsely reported baby kidnapped after drug deal allegedly went wrong
A man falsely reported a 13-month-old baby boy kidnapped to pursue charges against the men who allegedly robbed him during a drug deal, police said.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued Saturday night for Bentley Dutz after three men reportedly stole a gold 2000 Ford Taurus with the baby inside at a Farmington gas station.

When Mitchell Dutz was interviewed, police came to determine he made the whole story up. Police said at no time was a car stolen or infant abducted. Dutz used the story to pursue charges against the men who allegedly robbed him in the drug deal, police said.

Why would you do that ☹️

A lot of criminals are not smart. When they engage in crimes involving sales of illegal stuff and then get robbed, a non-trivial percentage of said criminal actually call the police in an attempt to arrest the people the who stole from them...

I know, it's stupid. If you are selling drugs and get robbed, the police are not going to get your drugs back for you nor are they going to punish the people who stole your drugs.

As Forest Gump would say, "Stupid is as Stupid does..."

I don't see how reporting that they kidnapped a baby is ever going to bode well for you. What do you think the police are going to do when you say, "Hey, Mr. D stole my baby!" First police are going to ask you for a picture of your baby as well as the whereabouts of the mother. Then they are going to get a statement from her, then they are going to do a whole bunch of stuff to find the baby because ummm duhhh kidnapped babies are a big deal...

just not smart. the opposite of smart. very very stoopid :p
