I've heard it claimed that the 1st 3.5 years of the 7 before the Battle of Armageddon will be a time of peace. But is Revelation 11 telling us the opposite?

Revelation 11 begins with a 42 months (= 3.5 years) during which the Holy City, Jerusalem, will be trampled over by the nations. It then mentions a 1260 days (= 3.5 years) for which 2 Witnesses will prophesy. Then it tells us that they will be killed, after which their bodies will be left in the streets for 3.5 days. It then tells us that, after the 3.5 days, they will be resurrected, and taken up to heaven in a cloud (could this be the same one in which the elect of Matt 24:31 and 1 Thess 4:17 are gathered?), and that at that moment there will be a great earthquake. Then Rev 11:14-15 tell us that shortly after that, the 7th trumpet is blown and voices in heaven declare that 'the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah, and that He will reign forever'.

Since Revelation 20:4 tells us that the Millennium will be a time when Jesus will reign, I think the voices in Rev 11:15 with their declaration that the Messiah will reign forever, could be announcing the beginning of the Millennium, which incidentally I think Zechariah 14 enables us to work out, will begin on the day of the Battle of Armageddon.

Since the declaration will be made only shortly after the earthquake and the resurrection of the 2 Witnesses, this places those events close to, if not on the actual day of, the Battle of Armageddon.

I think, like Daniel's 70th Week, where a day is equivalent to a year, the 3.5 days that precede the 2 Witnesses resurrection, is equivalent to 3.5 years, which means since they end with the 2 Witnesses resurrection that they represent the Final 3.5 Years of the 7, which means that I think the 1260 days for which they prophesy will cover the 1st 3.5 Years of the Final 7 Years before the Battle of Armageddon.

Now, Rev 11:5-6 tell us that the 2 Witnesses will have the ability to breathe fire, cause droughts, turn water into blood and strike the earth with every kind of plague. Now, no doubt one reason these powers are listed are to help us deduce that the 2 Witnesses are Moses and Elijah or two Christian groups representative of them. However, that may not be the only reason: it's possible that they are also listed to indicate that the 2 Witnesses will have cause to use these powers during their 1260 days of prophesying, to defend God's people and to inflict harm on any forces attacking God's people. And it's possible that the scale of the damage that can be caused by these powers may be an indication of how intense the attack on God's people will be.

So, I think, contrary to the claim that the 1st 3.5 years of the 7 may be a time of peace, Revelation 11 could be indicating that the 1st 3.5 years could be a time when intense war is being waged by the nations on God's people in Jerusalem, a view supported by what the phrase 'the harlot (of Babylon) being drunk on the blood of the saints' from Rev 17:6 implies, and by what the phrase 'Holy City being trampled over by the nations' from Rev 11:1-2 may mean (I think the 42 months for which the Holy City is trampled over may also cover the 1st 3.5 years of the 7).

You, like most as per Revelation just don't quite get the handle on the timing of the book of Revelation, you are not alone, don't worry.

Rev. 11 is all about the Ministry of the Two-witnesses.

God tells John to Measure the Temple and the altar, which is a Metaphor for who does what. The Temple, Altar and those that worship therein point to the Jews who Repent when the Two-witnesses show up, and those that trample the outer court as do the Gentiles for 42 months. John is basically being told this, there will be those Jews who REPENT and the Gentiles who chase them into the Wilderness and rule Jerusalem for 42 months. The Measurement is Metaphoric in nature.....

The Two-witnesses pray down the Plagues of God. That happens during the Beasts 42 month rule, not before or after. All we need to know as per the timing is this, the Two-witnesses DIE at the 2nd Woe, and the Beast dies at the 7th Vial (the 3rd Woe is all Seven Vials). That by its very definition means this can't be TWO 1260 Day Periods of time, the 2nd Woe and 7th Vial are too close to each other to be a 1260 day period in between when the Two-witnesses die, and when the Beast dies. They overlap, which means the Two-witnesses show up just before the Beast comes to power for 42 Months, since they die just before the Beast dies.

Malachi 4:5-6 says that Elijah will be sent BEFORE the Day of the Lord (which starts at the First Seal) to turn the Jews/Israel back unto God. The First Seal is when the Beast arises (Anti-Christ) out of the Sea. So here is the gist of this, the Two-witnesses show up before the First Seal (DOTL) is opened and turns Israel back to God (1/3 repent), this is why they know to Flee Judea when they see the AoD, if they had not already repented, they wouldn't have read Matt. 24 and would not therefore know they should flee Judea. The Jews are forbidden from reading the New Testament for the most part. The Two-witnesses, IMHO, show up 75 days before (at the 1335) the First Seal is opened (DOTL). Then the AoD happens at the 1290 and then of course the First Seal is opened and the Beast Conquers Jerusalem at the 1260. So they show up 75 days BEFORE the Beast comes to power and die 75 days BEFORE the Beast dies. The two 1260 days periods you are speaking over overlap in all but 75 days.

The Two-witnesses Ministry is to turn Israel back unto God and to Pray down the Plagues. Thus why do they die at the 2nd Woe ? Because their Ministry is finished, they pray for the 3rd Woe to rain down on the Beast, thus their Ministry is finished at that point in time !! But since it was THEIR Payers that brings the Last Woe down, we are shown the results in chapter 11, which actually happen in Rev. ch. 16. Thus when Jesus takes over in Rev. ch. 11, that is actually happening in Rev. ch. 16, Rev. 11 is not a part of the Chronological Order of the book of Revelation. The Earthquake is the same one in Rev. 16:19 also, where Jesus lands on Mt. Zion.

The Only way to grasp this is to understand the Chronological Order of the BoR.

Revelation is not in Chronological Order.

Rev. 1 is the Vision of the Glorious Lord. (The things which you have seen)
Rev. 2 and 3 is the Church Age. (The things which are/Church Age)
Rev. 4 and 5 is the Church in Heaven as the Bride. (The things Afterwards)
Rev. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 15&16 are the Plagues of God in order.
Rev. 20 comes next, it's the Judgment Seat.
Rev. 21 and 22 is the hereafter and the New Jerusalem.

There is you Chronological Order of Revelation.

Rev. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18 and 19 are Parenthetical Citations or things happening during the timing of the other chapters above. FOR INSTANCE:

Rev. 11 is the Two-witnesses 42 month ministry period, it starts before the first Seal is opened. It has to because they die before the Beast dies. I think the 1335 happens 75 days before the 1260 and is the Two-witnesses showing up to bless Israel with Repentance.

Rev. 12 starts at the 1260 event, when Jesus opens the First Seal. The Anti-Christ goes forth Conquering and chases the Woman (Israel) into the Wilderness for 1260 days.

Rev. 13 starts at the same event, the 1260/First Seal, he rules for 42 Months.

Rev. 14 speaks about at least 7 Years, we see the Church Raptured in verse 14 by Jesus who is on the Clouds, then we see the 144,000 (Jews God protects) on Mt. Zion with Jesus shown coming with Jesus when he defeats the Wicked at Armageddon in verses 18-20.

Rev. 17 starts at the 1260 event/First Seal also, its when the Beast and his Kings (SEE Rev. 17:16) destroy all False Religion by mandating only the Beast can be worshiped as God. These will be most of the 1/4 of mankind killed off in the Seals or 1.5 to 2 Billion people, I see them mostly as Muslims.

Rev. 18 also starts at the First Seal but runs all the way through the 7th Vial. Babylon is the WHOLE WORLD getting hit with the Seal, Trumpet and Vial Plagues of God, thus the Commerce goes south in a hurry. 2 Billion people die during the Seals then at the 2nd Woe another 1.5 Billion people die, BAD FOR COMMERCE. And all the grasses burn, 1/3 of the trees burn, 1/3 of the sea water turns to blood and a 1/3 of the sea Creatures (Shrimp/Fish) die, 1/3 of the drinking waters are poisoned, 1/3 of the Ships are destroyed. Then we have the Three Woes, the last of which is ALL SEVEN VIALS !!

So of course Babylon's Commerce is destroyed. Of course she burns !!

When it says Babylon has become the Habitation of devils, of course it has, Satan has been cast down to earth, Apollyon and his hordes of Demons released from the bottomless pit onto mankind.

When it says "Come out of her my people, lest you partake in her sins and thus receive of her plagues". OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT...........God is telling Israel to Flee Judea, to get to Petra, lest they sin against God like Babylon (World) and thus receive of her Plagues. God is saying, go to Petra where I will protect you.

Rev. 19 is also the Full 7 years. The Church is ready for her Marriage, then we see her in Rev. 4:4, 5:9 and Rev. 7:9-17 wearing white. Later in Rev. 19 she returns with Christ to defeat the Beast on earth at the Marriage Supper (Armageddon).

The announcement in Revelation 11:18 is just showing that the 24 elders will no longer be sitting as judges over the people.

Paul wrote about a group called - the elect angels, and told us that we are charged before them. He also showed that when Jesus Christ returns these angels will no longer be listed as our judges.

Look in Rev. 19, as it shows that the kingdom is still coming.
He shall reign is a common type of phrase in the Bible.

I agree that the kingdom is still coming in Rev. 19, but I don't think the events mentioned in the Book of Revelations are listed chronologically- for instance, I think the earthquake in Rev 6:12-14 is the same one that's mentioned in Rev 16:18-20, since both refer to the earthquake removing every mountain and island from its place, which is surely an event that will only happen once.

And if the events are not listed chronologically, it means that Rev. 11 can refer to an event that is to occur after the Battle of Armageddon in Rev. 19, which means that the declaration in Rev 11:15 could, as suggested, be made at the beginning of Jesus' Millennial reign.

Since the declaration will be made only shortly after the earthquake and the resurrection of the 2 Witnesses, this places those events close to, if not on the actual day of, the Battle of Armageddon.

Hi Julian, welcome to this forum.

When the two witnesses are killed, the world will exchange presents and rejoice over their deaths. That particular description does not fit with the condition of the world near the end of the trumpet and bowls of wrath judgements, right before Armageddon.

It says days. It doesn't even make sense that the two witnesses bodies lay dead in the streets of Jerusalem for 3 1/2 years.

In Revelation, the time span of different events are expressed differently - intentionally.

The 1260 days is an exact time expression. The 42 months, as used in Revelation, is expressed because the 42 months is not "exactly" 1260 days - in Revelation.

1260 days + 3 1/2 days + the remainder of the 7 years (1256.5 days, expressed as 42 months) = 2520 days.
_________________________________________________________________

In Revelation 12, similarly....

1260 days + war in (second) heaven time + the time, times, half time = 2520 days.
_____________________________________________________________

It could be said, generally speaking, that the 1260 days is the first half of the 7 years.

And the 42 months and time, times, half time are the second half.

Thank you for your reply- I see what you're saying. So, you think the 3.5 days of Rev 11:9 represents a literal 3.5 day period even though Daniel's 70th Week, which it forms part of, represents 7 years, as opposed to 7 days. Have you any thoughts on why the Book of Revelations would mention a 1/2 day period? Surely if it was a literal 3.5 days, it would be more normal to write 3 days or 4 days?

I'm also interested in your positioning of the 1290 and 1335 days of Daniel 12:11-12. Where do you position the 2300 Days of Daniel 8:13-14, and what event do you think will mark their start?

RT, you have the two witnesses being killed by the beast near the end of the 7 years.

But that is not what Revelation says. Instead it is at the end of their testimony time that the beast makes war on them.

So in your scenario, over three years pass before the beast decides to make war on them? Near the end of the 7 years? No, that is not rationale. The beast makes war on the saints for the 42 months.

The 1260 days of the two witnesses is the first half of the 7 years. The person becomes the beast near the end of the first half of the 7 years. And immediately makes war on the two witnesses.

Revelation 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

I accept your comment about the exchanging of presents- perhaps this occurs at the beginning of the 3.5 days which I think are 3.5 years, and therefore 3.5 years before the Battle of Armageddon.

Can't see why 42 months would be expressed as 1256.5 days which is 21 days less than 42 months in actual time- I think the 42 months is written in prophetic time and that they are therefore 42 months of 30 days each, which of course = 1260 days.

Also, I think, since both verses are telling us for how long the Woman will be nourished, that Rev 12:6 and Rev 12:14 are telling us that time, times and half a time = 1260 days.

1256.5 days is 3.5 days less than 1260 days.

If a person were doing conversion in the normal sense, 42 months x 30 days/month would be 1260 days.

But in Revelation, it doesn't work that way - although the tendency to do conversions is an almost universal mistake people make in their understanding of Revelation.

Are you SDA? The reason I ask, is because it is fundamental to SDA (Seventh Day Adventists) that a day in bible prophecy is a year. The day is a year claim is necessary to SDA belief that the Papacy/Pope is the Antichrist - in order to hold their position. Without the day is a year - their entire proposition falls apart.

Revelation 12:6 to Revelation 12:17 is linear.

The two witnesses feed the woman, Israel, the word of God for 1260 days. Near the end of their 1260 days, the two witnesses are killed, and 3 1/2 days later they come back to life and leave this world.

Then, following the earthquake, the 7th trumpet sounds, which is the go signal for Michael and his angels to cast Satan and his angels down to earth - as the process begins of dismantling Satan's kingdom and it's control over the nations of the world.

I should have added that I think the 1260 days of Revelation 12 occurs at the same time as the Beasts 42 months of authority, and that therefore 1260 days in the Book of Revelation is equivalent to 42 months.

You said earlier that the 2 Witnesses 1260 days covered the 1st 3.5 years. So, by mentioning that they feed the Woman, are you saying that the 1260 days of nourishment also represent the 1st 3.5 years?

During the biggest part of the first half of the 7 years, the Jews will be thinking the person known as the Antichrist is the messiah. They will embrace him as their King of Israel.

The two witnesses will be testifying not to trust the person. That Jesus is the real messiah. And that the person will ultimately betray them.

Which he ultimately does, and becomes the beast. The image made of him, and placed in the temple. 1335 days before the end of the 7 years. Which is 75 days before the two witnesses are killed by the beast.

The image is the abomination of desolation, and the Jews begin to flee, as the two witnesses battle with beast, making it possible for the Jews to find safety in the wilderness.

Here is a chart I made... to show the person's progression. It is only for a short time of about 3 years that he will be in the role of being the Antichrist (illegitimate King of Israel).

I should have added that I think the 1260 days of Revelation 12 occurs at the same time as the Beasts 42 months of authority, and that therefore 1260 days in the Book of Revelation is equivalent to 42 months.
The 42 months in Revelation 13 that the beast has power over the world is after the two witnesses are gone. The beast will not be hampered by them during that time.

The 42 months are also the time which the army of the beast has control over Jerusalem.

first half
1260 days - Revelation 11:3, Revelation 12:6

(in the) second half
3 1/2 days - Revelation 11:11
42 months - Revelation 11:2, Revelation 13:5
time, times, half time - Daniel 7:25, Daniel 12:7, Revelation 12:14.

The Desolating Abomination is also mentioned as being set up during the 1290 days of Daniel 12:11. So at what point in the 7 years do you think the 1290 days begin?

Interesting, I hadn't thought of Revelation 12's woman being nourished for 2 periods in the wilderness. Nor had I thought of the 42 months and 1260 days of Rev 11 as occurring in the opposite order to the one in which they are presented.
