Of course -- that's what the Saudis want.

This was more or less a public showing of defiance, not anything that they actually expected to pass. A) It would have to get through the House - which, it's unlikely they'll even vote on it this session, and B) it'd have to get past Trump's desk (which we know won't happen).

...but it's important for a few reasons.
Many folks aren't/weren't even aware of the Yemen situation, and the extent of our involvement. This will at least bring the subject to the forefront and more people will learn about exactly what's happening, and unfortunately, how much we're actually involved in that whole mess.

Many these high profile reports and conversations about the subject will open up some eyes as to how absurd some of our foreign policy really is.

....it was a day of unprecedented rebukes to a President's foreign policy.

The first resolution was passed by the entire US Senate:
"Thursday, it unanimously approved a resolution that assigns responsibility to the crown prince for the killing and says the regime’s “misleading statements” about the case “have undermined trust and confidence” in Saudi-U.S. relations. "

....followed by a resolution to halt support:
"...56-to-41 vote in favor of another resolution ending U.S. support for the Saudi war in Yemen under the War Powers Act."

...and noting, the US Senate finally stepped up to its war power responsibilities. I await the vote on Afghanistan and the dozens of other countries where US forces have been deployed by the executive branch for the past several decades...

While largely for show, this is still significant as the first time a chamber of Congress has ever challenged the War Powers directed by the president.
This will really stop them from being able to afford expensive foreign cars.
