The Conception of Jesus

'This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about. His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph,but before they came together,she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit' (Matthew 1:18)

The Lord Jesus Christ,the Messiah was born by virgin birth. He was born in the womb of his earthly mother,Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. He did not have an earthly father.

'Then Joseph,her husband,being a just man and not willing to make her a public example,was minded to put her away secretly' (Matthew 1:19)

There was no way that Joseph was responsible for this pregnancy. He knew that he was not the father and Mary knew too. But if someone is pregnant it can give the impression that a man is responsible,but in this case the child was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. It was truely not of man. Joseph fearing the humiliation and embarrassment was minded to put Mary away,but this was the Messiah, promised many years before!

'But while he thought about these things,behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream,saying,' Joseph,son of David,do not be afraid to take to you Mary as your wife,for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit' (Matthew 1:20)

The conceiving of the baby Jesus was a supernatural conception by the power of the Holy Spirit. The visit of the Angel to Joseph confirmed to Joseph why Mary was about to be a mother.

'And she will bring forth a Son and you shall call His name JESUS for He will save His people from their sins' (Matthew 1:22) JESUS -'The LORD is Saviour. Greek translation of Hebrew,'Yeshua'. The LORD,'Yaweh' is salvation'

'So all this was done that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by the Lord through the prophets saying,'Behold the virgin shall be with Child and bare a Son and they shall call His name,'Immanuel,which is translated,'God with us' (Matthew 1:22-23) So the wonderful prophecy of (Isaiah 7:14) was fulfilled! He is 'with us',Emmanuel. Let us praise our LORD!

'That Jesus being aroused from sleep,did as the angel of the LORD commanded him and took Mary to be his wife and did not know her until she had brought forth her firstborn son and and he called His name Jesus' (Matthew 1:24-25) Mary did not remain a virgin after the birth of Jesus,but entered into a normal marital relationship.
