What about John 15:1-18? Why does Jesus warn about abiding?
It says the same as in 1John those who don't remain will be condemned, not really belonging. While there are those who identify themselves outwardly with the Christian community, they may not really belong because inwardly they are not attached to the vine. They are merely attached on the outside. That's why branches die. They are not really attached inwardly. And that's why they don't produce fruit. And that's why those who really belong do produce fruit, because they get their life from the vine. Many are mere posers, merely playing at Christianity, but are not alive. They're the walking dead among the Christian community.

But Jesus was speaking directly to His faithful 11 apostles. No one else was present during this message. There is no doubt that they believed or that they were chosen by God. So why would Jesus warn them about abiding and explain the eternal consequences of not abiding if they cannot turn away from Him? Before you answer please notice how many times Jesus says to them “you”. This message is undoubtedly directed to His faithful 11 apostles and not to people in general excluding the apostles.

Like, for example, salvation by works preachers, rejecting the grace of God and making justification a function of one's ongoing performance. As you say, “Shepherds leading multitudes to hell”

Funny how there is always a deception that goes along with the claim.
Who here ever, even once, claimed salvation by works alone? Hopefully people will see that deception is exactly what it takes to make people to believe things that aren't true. And your claim was deceptive/a half truth completely changing what the bible claims.

Anyway, how do you get around the "Faith AND works", or the "Faith without works is dead" comments directly from the bible?

Do you not believe that very clear part of the bible?

Didn't use the word "alone". Seems that was a deception on your part.

Let's see what the scriptures say the gospel actually is:

Romans 4
¶ What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter?
2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about— but not before God.
3 What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
4 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.
5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.
6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

Romans 10
Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law:
"The man who does these things will live by them." (Performance based salvation is justification by law)
6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’" (that is, to bring Christ down)
7 "or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
12 ¶ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile— the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,
13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
(Justification by faith apart from works)

John 5:24 I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Nothing about salvation being contingent upon a person's works. What does it say of works?

Eph 2:8,9 it is by grace you have been saved, through faith— and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy

These as opposed to the false gospel of the Neo-Circumcision who claim the justification is contingent upon one's ongoing performance. They have "faith". But their faith is in their works to qualify them to be saved rather than their faith being in Christ.

I think a big part of understanding these James verses is to realize that the 11 apostles ( including James and Peter who led the Jerusalem church) all were sent by Christ to the Hebrews or coverts to Christ from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant, whereas Paul was the only apostle to the Gentiles.

James focus would naturally be ( as well as Peter & other apostles to the Hebrew people) on the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant.

Faith in the Messiah only, without the Law, without works was as foreign to these believers as the automobile.

Good works, through the strength of Christ in us and the indwelling Holy Spirit is not a foreign concept to any of us. But do we attribute these good and righteous things to the good in our human flesh or do we arrribute it to God. His glory in us.

Just as Abraham was obedient to God through his actions BECAUSE of his faith and love for God. We also, are obedient to God because of our faith and love for God.

This is who James was referencing. One of the Patriarch s of the Old Testament, Abraham (justified by Christ in the New Testament verses) was justified by FAITH. Not works!

How these verses in James are used out of context to show works are an integral part of salvation is bad theology and people’s use of these verses and a few others out of context does not show Biblical proof.

We are not justified (made right with God) by obedience to the law or works. We are made right with God by Jesus’ sacrifice. By grace we are saved thru faith which produces repentance (obedience to the law) and also produces fruit (good works). We are born again becoming a new creation that no longer desires sinful things but instead desires serving God and doing what pleases Him. Once we have reached this point we must still continue to abide in Christ. Now we will all surely stumble in our walk but if we repent our sins will be forgiven. But if we stray from the path and fail to abide without repentance we will surely be condemned to the lake of fire.
Yes, I am a FAN of your spiritual understanding!
Another "spot on" post.

Revelation 21:7-8
All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. “BUT cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.
God on His throne is speaking (Ref: Revelation 21:5) ...
Revelation 21:7-8
"All who are victorious (overcomers) will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. BUT cowards, unbelievers,
the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars — their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
This is the second death."

This is talking about habitual unrepentant sinners!
And it refers to absolutely EVERYONE, including BACs!

Perhaps, you would like to know who
"the victorious overcomers" are!
Revelation 3:21
"To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne."
So, now we have to understand what Jesus overcame!

So according to you John 15 only applies to the 11 apostles and to no one else in all the history of Christianity. So why bring it up? Since apparently you think it has no application to you or me.

Lol actually my profile name probably isn’t a very good example of a Christian name. I was still a very new Christian when I created it. It basically means that I’m a fan of the BNR32 which is the chassis code for a Nissan Skyline GTR R32 model. I know now that I shouldn’t desire worldly things. But I would add that I do value Spiritual things over worldly possessions.

This warning passage has been one of my personal favorites, and I have been preaching it for some time!

My favorite verse is Matthew 4:4 :)

1 John 2:19 is referring to antichrists not your ordinary everyday believer. This verse is often misused implying that if anyone turns from God they were never with God to begin with. But this verse does not apply to everyone just antichrists.
I simply say that this verse applies to one single event!
E.G. everyone who walks out of a church isn't guilty of
"they were never with God to begin with".

Oh? And who are these "prophets/watchmen" exactly? I know of no legitimate modern prophet.
You know, maybe I should not have called these regular BACs whom God talks to "prophets and watchmen"!

God speaks to MANY of His people every day!

And He uses them to give warnings to His church!

And His church ignores His warnings!

Just like His church ignores His warnings in the NT!

Good Day,

Jesus is better, then the Prophets, Moses, and the Angels.

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"?

Just Give me Jesus, and you can have you self Justification/ Sanctification.

"All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out."
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.

I believe him..

Cause - the Father Gives
Effect- we come
Result - he will not cast out, nor lose none of it

For His Glory alone!!

Bill

Some believe to their peril, that being free from the law, is free TO sin, rather than free FROM sin.
IMO, the #1 reason the Word came from heaven
(to become Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior) was to
FREE true believers (BACs) from the power of sin.
They are no longer in bondage to sin!
They are no longer slaves of sin!
They no longer have to sin!
They are FREE to not sin!
Thus, these will be welcomed into heaven by Father God.
For this was His salvation plan from before the foundation
of the world.

And we should test the prophet or prophetic word in two ways:
1) Is it in line with scripture
2) Has it come fully to pass

Blessings

By grace are we saved
....THROUGH ..faith.
Absolutely, and now people need to know
all that which "FAITH" encompasses!

First, one's faith must endure until the end of one's life, or it has been to no avail.
E.G. If one submits to taking the mark of the beast,
he has lost his salvation (Rev 13 and 14).

Second, one must be accounted among "the faithful".
E.G. Paul was only writing to "the faithful" when he was writing to the Ephesians (1:1) & to the Colossians (1:2).

Third, "the faithful" are faithful to what Jesus preached and commanded, etc., which is a lot. This includes such things as taking up one's cross daily and following Jesus!
