From (this) Christians viewpoint.

We could call it "good works" that we of this house do to help poor countries and the ones living there. And I wish to stress the point that we expect nothing in return for our good works, we only take joy that we have a little extra to give and (all credit) for that goes to God.

There's a lot of accusing going on these days of ones telling others they have not a heart for these people. These accusers usually have not a clue who they are even talking to or accusing. Not only does that get very old but, it can be painful and shows a real lack of loving understanding.

So not to blow smoke up my tailpipe here, we enjoy sponsoring children in South American countries and support sending missionaries out around the world.

We highly recommend sponsoring children. It's a joy when they write to us explaining what they are doing and how their lives are improving because of our giving.

I know looking at what we have these are very small things that we do. I believe the key for the Christian is to do what we do and then try to occasionally pick it up a notch.

There's also nothing wrong with helping ones here at home in the United States. I started a Bible Ministry many years ago and have given away thousands of Christian books and bibles and still today I'm a Gideon. When I am dead and gone they will be still giving away Bibles that I paid for. I don't share this to brag. These things warm my heart in a way that is hard to explain.

I'm also hooking up lately with Ligonier Ministries so as to supply Christian materials to prisons. Just so happens we know a few backsliders that are in prison doing time. Sin can sure catch up with us -- this I know.

Maybe if we all Step Up and (I just a little more) -- we can all together really make a difference for ones in the world that are needy?

I chose the option that I could step it up a little more, as I'm financially limited atm but I would love to be able to do more for others.. it's very important.

I chose the option that I could step it up a little more, as I'm disabled and my husband and I are exceedingly financially limited atm.

We have our actual needs met (food on the table and roof over our head) but we are struggling to keep a vehicle running (dont have one atm) and medical needs met.. so it's not like there is much I can do anymore.. but I would love to be able to do more for others.. it's very important.

I see you around here often and thank you for your kind post.

If you would like and enjoy a 1 year subscription to Tabletalk Magazine please feel free to send me a PM.

These are the things that bring this getting older guy joy today. Giving things and helping people who I don't really know.

Sometimes I even get a little teary-eyed tears of joy.

A blessed day wished for you from, Bob

Amen Bob, long may your helping hands continue to be a blessing to others. I've done a fair bit of that kind of thing in the past, in paid and voluntary roles, but since changing profession over a year ago haven't done much but work. Clearly there are real needs out there, and it's one way of sharing in Jesus' concern for people who are in positions that make it difficult for them to help themselves.

A number of years ago, I learned from a pastor from India that many congregations there have an annual budget of only $1000.

I realized I could easily sponsor a whole Indian congregation.

So I do.

When we look at the wealth we have in the west compared with the poverty in the third world, we all could give more and do more.

That said, do remember that the stats show that the 'religous' give far more than the so called 'liberals' do

May I suggest also that in supporting Christian missionary work far more good is done for the poor than just filling bellies.
search for " Why Africa needs Christianity" by Mathew Parish an atheist journalist with extensive expeience of africa.

A heavier read is 'TheMissionary Roots of liberal Democracy'

Both are worth reading.

So I do.

I find that to be very encouraging.

Brings me to that place once again
as the Bible recommends
Self-Examination. I need to stay in the Word and keep an eye on the guy I see in the mirror. Man oh man how many times has he deceived me?

Excellent point the OP makes, but sadly so many people just brush it off (not a good idea at all. There are those who would disagree but, bluntly, I think giving is a critical part of getting to heaven.

Probably my most mentioned Scripture here is the Sheep and the Goats, and though some will try to rip it to pieces, it's message is simple and clear.

Reward? At this stage as mentioned, just the satisfaction, later, in heaven, there will be rewards for just those type things.

I generally give monthly, all depending, and it varies who it goes to.

I do some social service here in India helping out middle class families. What most may not realize is that there are many desperate middle class families in America too:). I've started a giving relationship and friendship with one family.

I don’t have much income. I do help others though. For awhile I was helping a nonprofit dedicated to feeding the hungry in Israel:

https://www.yadeliezer.org

I don't either except in my situation it's just best to do it with money, but our time is just as good.
