I posted this in another thread but it fits here also.


Man was created in a state of grace


The tree of knowledge of good and evil is the law, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

The day A & E broke Gods commandment not to eat was the day they were placed under the law which is a ministration of death and it is this death by law that that they died the day they ate thereof.


Thus by one man death came into the world.


However even in death God gave a way for man to return to that state of grace they were created in because the law is also our schoolmaster that leads to Christ.


Thus death is not the end for man but a schoolmaster that leads us back to grace in Christ Jesus our Lord.

However even in death God gave a way for man to return to that state of grace they were created in because the law is also our schoolmaster that leads to Christ. Thus death is not the end for man but a schoolmaster that leads us back to grace in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You Must have had a misguided schoolmaster.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Isaiah 38:18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

Psalms 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

Questions

1. Are you more merciful than the God Who made you?

2. 'Can a woman forget her sucking child?'

3. Is the Creator of human sympathy less benevolent than the creature?

4. If God WOULD save all men, but CANNOT, is He infinite in power?

5. If God CAN save all men, but WILL NOT, is He infinite in goodness?

7. As God is righteous, must not the desire for universal salvation be a RIGHTEOUS desire?

The questions were written by A. C. Thomas and appeared in a book by E. H. Lake, entitled "The Key to Truth".

Yes, but you must first be called to be a part of the ALL.

Ephesians 4:1-3 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, (2) with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, (3) endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Matthew 20:16  So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Many are called by the preaching of the Gospel into the outward communion of the Church of Christ; but few, comparatively, are chosen to dwell with God in glory, because they do not come to the master of the feast for a marriage garment - for that holiness without which none can see the Lord. This is an allusion to the Roman custom of raising their militia; all were mustered, but only those were chosen to serve, who were found proper. John 15:5 (NIV) “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Matthew 5:19  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Mathew 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Few chosen. For what? A final destiny of salvation from which the rest (the many others) are forever excluded? No, Paul says "many" (Rom.5:18-19) shall be saved, not "few". And by "the many" he means all fallen human beings:

Rom 5:18 Consequently, then, as it was through one offense for ALL MANKIND for condemnation, thus also it is through one just act for ALL MANKIND for life's justifying."

Rom 5:19 For even as, through the disobedience of the one man, THE MANY were constituted sinners, thus also, through the obedience of the One, THE MANY shall be constituted just."

Paul makes a parallel between "the many" who were condemned & sinners and those who will be justified & constituted just.

“In Romans 5, the justification is co-extensive with the condemnation. Since all share in one, all share in the other. If only a certain portion of the human race had partaken of the sin of Adam, only a certain portion would partake of the justification of Christ. But St. Paul affirms all to have been involved in one, and all to be included in the other.”

Therefore there is salvation after death. And corrective punishment.

Jesus shall see of the travail of His soul & be satisfied. Not satisfied a little bit, but the vast majority fried alive forever.

"He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities." (Isa.53:11).

For how "many" (not few) did He "bear their iniquities"? All.

Notice the words "He will" and "His people". Clearly not all are part of the body of Christ, not all are His people.

Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

The verse above and others like...

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it."

...suggests a select few in contrast to the whole of mankind.

Again if I had more time, many other verses could be used to support this. As an observation, look at Israel in contrast to the rest of the world, it is so small, but out of all the nations in the world, God chose tiny Israel, and through Israel the awesome power of the one true God on display, other larger nations were brought to their knees so to speak, not because of the superiority of Israel, but because of the God of Israel and His sovereign providence.

None of those verses say or imply Jesus died - ONLY - for a select few.

Mt.1:21 refers to "His people" who will be saved from their sins. That's "Israel" (Mt.2:6), the nation referred to in the Old Testament, including all those who died in their sins, e.g. King Saul, Judas, the Pharisees, etc. This is truly "good news", not the bad news of Calvinism.

Furthermore, if those verses meant what you think, then they'd contradict each other. For one would speak of "many" lost (Mt.7:13) few saved (v.14) & the other speak of "many" saved & "few" lost (Mt.22:14). Here again we have "many" saved:

Christ's "act of righteousness" results in "justification of life" (δικαίωσιν ζωῆς) for all (5:18). The term δικαίωσιν can be translated as "justification" (NIV, NRSV; but RSV has "acquittal") - the opposite of "condemnation". The word ζωῆς ("of life") is a genitive of result, providing the outcome of justification, so that the phrase may be rendered "justification resulting in life". 108

108. BDAG 250 (δικαίωσιν): "acquittal that brings life". The construction is variously called a "genitive of apposition", an "epexegetical genitive" or "genitive of purpose". Cf. BDF 92 (S166). The meaning is the same in each case: justification which brings life."

"The universality of grace in Christ is shown to surpass the universality of sin. Christ's "act of righteousness" is the opposite of Adam's "tresspass" and equivalent to Christ's
"obedience", which was fulfilled in his being obedient unto death (Phil 2:8). The results of Christ's righteous action and obedience are "justification resulting in life for all persons"...5:18...and "righteousness" for "many" (5:19). The term "many" in 5:19 is equivalent to "all persons", and that is so for four reasons: (1) the parallel in 5:18 speaks in its favor; (2) even as within 5:19 itself, "many were made sinners" applies to all mankind, so "many will be made righteous" applies to all; (3) the same parallelism appears in 5:15, at which "many" refers to "all"; and (4) the phrase "for many" is a Semitism which means "all", as in Deutero-Isaiah 52:14; 53:11-12; Mark...10:45; 14:24; Heb.12:15. The background for Paul's expression is set forth in Deutero-Isaiah, where it is said that "the righteous one"...the Lord's servant, shall make "many" to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their sins ...Isa.53:11..."

"It is significant, and even astounding, that justification is here said to be world-embracing. Nothing is said about faith as a prerequisite for justification to be effective, nor about faith's accepting it."

The 2nd Death

“Orthodox theology holds the second death to be a state of endless torment in which the sufferers are held forever in conscious being by a continuous act of Divine preservation, with the soul object of a punishment without end. This however would in no sense be death. The second death does not perpetuate the hopeless condition of the sinner to all eternity.

What the Holy Spirit means by ‘fire and brimstone’ is ‘divine purification,’ or a judgment fire which consumes all that is antagonistic to divine law and love.

Before the Great White Throne, that vast throng, their naked spirits conscious now of the blazing holiness of God, will be subjected to the process of the second death. What those processes are, their intensity and their duration, we are not told. They will suffice, however, not in themselves to perfect, but to bring those who suffer them to that agreement with the judgment upon sin which they effect, and through the cross finally to reconcile them to God (Col. 1:20), in a subjection where He will be ‘All in all.’ When that acquiescence in judgment upon sin is reached, and applied in soul and spirit, then will be possible the final victory over death. Hence it is written that when this subjection is reached, then and only then, ‘the last enemy, death, shall be destroyed.’ ” -A. E. Saxby

With all earnestness our choice lies between accepting the victory of Christ or of evil, and between these alternatives only.

Escape from this dilemma there is none. It avails nothing to diminish, as many now teach, the number of the lost; or to assert that they will be finally annihilated. All such modifications leave quite untouched the central difficulty of the popular creed - the triumph of evil. Sin for ever present with its taint, even in a single instance, is sin triumphant. Sin, which God has been unable to remove (and has had no resource but to annihilate the sinner) is sin triumphant and death victorious.

Let Us Still Punish Forever

How strange, too, is the delusion, often advocated, that all real objections to the traditional creed are met, if the grosser forms of teaching it are abandoned. This means, I presume, "let us still punish for ever, though all chance of amendment is over. But do not shock the mass of men, do not mention a literal fire: that is to go too far; retain the agony, but be careful to apply the suffering to the highest part - to the spiritual nature. Rack the spirit with endless woe, and remorse; hand over to the devil for ever one formed in God's Image, one for whom the Son of God died; consign man's spirit to endless evil, it lasts only FOR EVER AND EVER! Who can be so unreasonable as to murmur?"

Men's minds must be deeply drugged by prejudice, and the power of reasoning partly paralyzed, when such pleas are advanced; or when they fancy that, by diminishing the area of damnation they elude all objections to endless evil. As though you could solve moral questions by process of arithmetic, or annul the devil's victory by diminishing the number of his victims. So long as one soul for whom Christ died remains in the devil's grip for ever, so long and so far, is the devil victor. Nothing can by a hair's breadth alter that fact.

Your sight is very limited. Did you not read to whom "Every Knee" is directed?

Few chosen. For what? A final destiny of salvation from which the rest (the many others) are forever excluded? No, Paul says "many" (Rom.5:18-19) shall be saved, not "few". And by "the many" he means all fallen human beings:
Matthew 22:14 For many [πολλός] are called, but few [ὀλίγος] are chosen.

1Jonn 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Dear Lazarus: I am sure you have seen the ghastly translation of the KJV on this particular passage. It stands nearly alone in the translation of krima.

John 5:29 - and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

Please note

Krima begins at the house of God.

Psalms 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

Psalms 30:9 in the grave who shall give thee thanks? for mercies temporal or spiritual; the dead cannot praise the Lord among men, only the living; [GILL]

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Isaiah 38:18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

Psalms 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

All that to say you do not believe that the ministration of death (the law) is our shchoolmaster. oh good grief

FL, I have noted many times in the KJV that words are translated and given a bit more "English," as it might be said in the world of billiards. Thus, "judgment" is rendered as "condemnation," and "condemnation" is rendered as "damnation." I have become aware that the KJV, for all of its grandeur, is just another denominational translation, in the end, no more useful than the New World of Clear Word translations.

Dear Lazarus: A bit more "English" indeed! Judgement is the outworking of a Benevolent Personage we intimately call Abba. It begins with the House of the Lord & extends to as far as the curse is found.

Here we see everyone gets "life":

Rom 5:18 Consequently, then, as it was through one offense for ALL MANKIND for condemnation, thus also it is through one just act for ALL MANKIND for life's justifying."
Rom 5:19 For even as, through the disobedience of the one man, THE MANY were constituted sinners, thus also, through the obedience of the One, THE MANY shall be constituted just."

Paul makes a parallel between "the many" who were condemned & sinners and those who will be justified & constituted just.

“In Romans 5, the justification is co-extensive with the condemnation. Since all share in one, all share in the other. If only a certain portion of the human race had partaken of the sin of Adam, only a certain portion would partake of the justification of Christ. But St. Paul affirms all to have been involved in one, and all to be included in the other.”

Therefore there is salvation after death. And corrective punishment.

Jesus shall see of the travail of His soul & be satisfied. Not satisfied a little bit, but the vast majority fried alive forever.

"He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities." (Isa.53:11).

For how "many" (not few) did He "bear their iniquities"? All.
