Not often, but it mostly comes from within. At least when you've met someone new. It's your reaction to being around them, which might be infatuation or novelty rather than who they really are.

When it comes to a loved one or a close friend, however, I think it's normal to feel less alive when they're not around. At least for a while, but that isn't quite the same.
