I still have not watched Games of Thrones! It must be really good, but I don't know, I have prejudices against it, partly because of the first episode as I already explained it, mostly because of its popularity. Everyone is watching it, so it makes me suspicious. This is silly haha.
I watched the BBC's "And then there were none". According to the book, I was expecting something scary and it certainly did scare me. Nothing will ever be as intense as the book, right, but this mini-serie captured quite well the original atmosphere. The casting is excellent.

I also watched "Death comes to Pemberley". I was a bit disappointed by their Elizabeth, I found her way too plain. Unless my standards are too high for Lizzie. Darcy too was not really what I expected. I also miss Austen's ironic and humorous tone.
However, the plot was nice, the realization meticulous, and I was glad to find Matthew Goode as Wickham. He really fits in costume shows!

To end up, I watched during summer the first season of "Elisa di Rivombrosa", an italian show which is based on the novel Pamela. That was really nice, the costumes are especially amazing.

I think I will start Broadchurch and Doctor Who (I don't know where to start yet! I'm not sure I would be brave enough to watch all seasons..) when I will manage to find time.

Hi Go Braves. I haven't been on this forum for a long time but was just clicking through some old threads. It's a shame that this one didn't continue, so I'm going to continue it (not knowing whether you still post here or not!) We moved back to Europe a little while ago (my home) but we continue to watch American alongside European shows. At present, we watch The Good Place on Netflix, which was hilarious for 2 seasons but the third isn't as funny (imo). I love Kristen Bell. She cracks me up. The other actors are also very good, and although I'd guessed what was going on quite quickly, it has still surprised me at different twists and turns. I also watched Black Mirror - which had some really good episodes, and House of Cards is back on, sans Kevin Spacey. Other than that .. Call the Midwife, a British show, and The Crown have been very good, although I'm far from being a royalist. I also caught up on The Spiral and The Tunnel (which may be country specific). The Chalet is on Netflix I believe. That has been another favourite.

What about you/others?

Hey there Hetta, thanks for that nice post! My girlfriend loves The Crown & you know what it was a lot better than I had expected it to be. It is actually really good. I haven't seen those shows you talked about that are on Netflix but will be sure to look them up. There's so much good stuff on there. I do like Black Mirror! There's some real good episodes that make you think. I've never gotten into House of Cards. I like Jessica Jones too.

I've seen the previews for The Good Place. Haven't seen the show itself. Is it set in heaven?

Have y'all seen God Friended Me? Folks talked about it in another thread & gave it mixed reviews. I haven't gotten around to watching it myself yet.

I still love Better Call Saul. It's great. I don't watch The Walking Dead anymore but folks have said the current season is much better than the last few, so maybe I'll give it another try.

Oh this is a teens area? Eeeek. I had no idea.

I was looking back through the pages here. I was fixing to tease ya a little that it was obvious this was the teens section on account of how such a simple & happy topic got so dramatic & ugly on account of folks who'd never even heard of Game of Thrones on account of being so sheltered crapping on the parents of those who enjoy it. But seeing as how a lot of threads around here get mighty dramatic & self-righteous over simple things, it's hardly exclusive to this section, lol. AAR thank you for posting, it was nice reading what you had to say.

My husband is on/off with The Crown. He will watch for a while, then stop, then watch again. It's not his/my culture or country but I remember some events that are portrayed because of course I lived in Europe for most of my young life.

I can't tell you much about The Good Place because it would spoil the twist. :) I thought it was great fun, and there is a lot of interesting information about philosophy that intrigued my son, who then took a philosophy class at college on the strength of that. He hugely enjoyed the experience.

I haven't seen God Friended Me, it may perhaps not be on Netflix in this country. There is a difference from country to country. We are getting a VPN so that we can watch US Netflix, ha. The Walking Dead was always too tense for me. So, I have to be left out of this massive phenomenon!

Hey ho, it will soon be time for the final season of GoT. What will we do afterwards?

We watched The Good Place the other night! We liked it! Good recommendation, Hetta.

Oh & yes Idk what we'll do when Game of Thrones finally ends, lol. Best show in the history of TV.

Hetta! A very belated hello and welcome back! It's lovely to see you on here! I only sporadically pop on CF now, so I hadn't realized you'd returned. :)

My grandparents are smitten with Call the Midwife! I've watched a few episodes with them, and see why they're so fond of it. I enjoy thoughtful period shows that subtly educate viewers without being pedantic about it, while in the process of telling an excellent story. We also adore The Crown and are enthused about season 3. Gillian Anderson was cast to play to Margaret Thatcher in it, so that has notched up the excitement even more.

Have you ever seen Bramwell? It's a recent delight of my family's - it's on Amazon Prime in the US and was recommended because of other British shows we've watched. It's about a female physician in London during the Victorian era who is a passionate and revolutionary advocate for public health. I actually thought it was a new show because it was fresh to me, but when I looked it up on IMDB I saw it began in 1995! It was beautifully filmed, with an excellent cast, and is insightful as well as entertaining. Even though it's set in the 1890s and was filmed in the 1990s, an episode I watched recently about compulsory smallpox vaccination and the arrogant ignorance and myths of anti-vaxxers the physicians were confronted with felt jarringly current. It was so gratifying watching the protagonist Eleanor Bramwell and her father, who is also a physician, prevail! Wouldn't it be so wonderful if while watching historical shows it actually felt like history, and reruns were confined to television, not humankind?

Oh this is a teens area? Eeeek. I had no idea.

At the time I tagged you I thought the rules here had been relaxed, and I was seeking your expertise on Game of Thrones. :) Virtually everyone I know is an avid viewer of the show, and incredulous that I'm unable to fully comprehend the frequent references to it. They lack patience with me, instructing me to just watch the show instead of answering my questions about it, so I was trying to tap into your knowledge to speed up my comprehension process, haha. It's surreal that the president of the United States keeps using the famously unique font and catchphrase for the series to promote his toxic agendas (persisting in doing so even after the producers repudiated him and to told him discontinue the disrespectful practice). I think some of his policies are more suitable for the fictional reality of the series than the actual reality we encompass. From what I've gathered it's also ironic he's done so, with the insipid "The Wall is Coming" memes because the wall in GoT was destroyed at the end of one of the seasons? I asked my brother, who is an enormous fan, to confirm, and he just got exasperated with me for being so out of the loop and told me to do my own homework (ie, watch the series for myself), haha. Politicians seem to be expecting us to be fluent in the show since Michael Gove also used GoT to explain his views of Brexit.

I actually logged back on here last summer when I was taking a hiatus from the site specifically for this post because my grandmother was seeking suggestions on what to watch, and I knew you had made some wonderful ones I could pass along to her. She was very pleased with your recommendations, and I'm sorry for not expressing our gratitude to you sooner! She agreed with your assessment of Death Comes to Pemberley, but enjoyed it nevertheless. What was a bit curious about it to me is that despite Lizzie's wealth and opulent surroundings, she wears the same dress everyday. I loved the deep duck blue color of it, though, to the extent that printed a still image of her in it to do a match while painting.

I've also abandoned hope of ever watching Game of Thrones attentively enough to be able to understand the frequent references to it in culture; it's so nuanced and unique you cannot simply catch on quickly without a detailed primer. I've twice tried to binge watch it on long flights, but was too distracted or drowsy to absorb the details. As I just referenced in the post above, it's surreal that Donald Trump and Michael Gove have used the series to promote their policies. o_O

I first watched a few episodes of the American adaptation of Broadchurch, which was titled Gracepoint, after becoming interested in it because they were filming scenes for it in the beachside neighborhood I lived in growing up. The lead detective in both shows is played by the same Scottish actor. I think the British original was superior, but I didn't watch either one for a whole season.

I think Benedict Cumberland is a brilliant actor, so I tried to get into Doctor Who, but I don't really gravitate towards that genre. He was magnificent in The Child in Time, which was a TV movie based on a book by a thought-provoking author, Ian McEwan.

I thought GOT was the GOAT, but then I watched Black Mirror! It's incredible! There's some episodes that are def. heaps better than others but overall it's so great. It's my favourite now.

I thought about watching House of Cards bc it's talked about so much but people have said that reality is weirder & more extra than the TV show, lol. I'm not that into politics.

I haven't watched TV in a while bc I've been super busy but now that everything is constantly shut down due to the extreme cold maybe it's time to catch up!

I dont get a chance to watch a lot of TV. But I loved the series 'Killing Eve'. I also like 'Hard Chat' - its hilarious

I've been wanting to see Killing Eve! I was kinda not interested at 1st bc I know the actress in it is in Greys Anatomy & I'm not a fan. Idk why it's as popular as it is, my mom loves it, lol. Is it still on? But a lot of people have said that Killing Eve is great & that the actress is so much better on it than on GA.

I'll have to check out Hard Chat!

I saw the 1st 2 episodes of Killing Eve & I liked it a lot!!!!!

Right now I'm watching the The Chosen One on Netflix. It's about 3 young doctors who go to a remote village in Brazil to vaccinate residents from a new mutation of the zika virus. They run into opposition from this deceptive "faith healer" who fools ppl. It's kinda a metaphor for the misinformation from the "Karens" (ignorant anti-vaxxer brats in North America) that cause outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases.
