There is a lot of chaos in my life and lately I've been interested in listening to YouTube guided meditations and like manifest success in your life meditation music. Is that new age-ish stuff or? Idk I want the peace of God from prayer too anything that will stop all the bad that is constantly attacking me. I do pray in my head frequently. I don't want to become worldly but I want peace in my life too .

Meditation is good for you in all kinds of ways. You don't need to bring anything necessarily spiritual into it as such, it's basically about learning to switch off your thoughts. Great for self control, focus, being more centered and aware.

As Christians we should really only meditate on the Word of God, the Bible.I came out of an Eastern type of meditation in the 80's and became a born again Christian. I will never go back to anything that puts me in a trance or forced relaxation by the use of repetition or outside stimuli through artificial means. When you use the word ""manifest" you are trying to create something yourself rather than having God work in your life through the Holy Spirit.
If I may suggest something. I found the writings of Hannah Whitall Smith in her book "The Christians secret to a happy life" a good solid addition to one's extra guidance in their walk with God. Listen to it in the audio format, its very enlightening!
Blessings

If you belive it you will some day make it happen, that is all it is.

But when you have belief in God he will make it happen the right way, this is a difference.

Emptying one's mind that eastern meditation teaches is a gateway to demonic activity into one's life; there are plenty of former yoga practitioners and eastern mystics who will attest to the oppression they invited into their minds and bodies by doing so. Just do a search on You Tube and see for yourself.

New Age beliefs and practices are ultimately rooted in Hinduism and also Buddhism to an extent; Hinduism is extremely pagan that promotes the worship of more gods than one can almost comprehend. This religion also teaches karma, reincarnation, and nirvana; yoga is practiced to take on the form of such gods and invite their spirit and power into the yogi. There are plenty online ministries that provide information explaining why these doctrines and practices are problematic.

The only way to experience inner peace through God is through confession of sin, prayer, and ultimately the study of scripture - the primary way through which He communicates to His children and has us verify truth. Ideally one should be in His word daily, even if it's for only 30 minutes (that's sometimes all I have time or the mental energy for). Adding a study Bible also helps. Developing discernment and intimacy with God is every believer's responsibility.

It depends on many things.

If we think we are somehow affecting the external things by the power of our minds - then that's a non-Christian point of view. But of course we can pray and leave it in God's hands.

If we empty our minds and open ourselves up to outside influence, then that is non-Christian and dangerous. But to practice mindfulness and cultivate stillness and peace is a Christian discipline.

If we desire things for selfish purposes or love things in the world, it can pull our focus from God. But if we desire to have what God knows is best for us and trust that He will provide it - bottom line trusting Him whether it seems a little of a LOT and seeking the best use either way - then we are doing well.

But chaos in the mind and continual upset or harassment is not what we ought to expect. It's best to identify the source and then we have a better idea how to deal with it.

As Christians we are commanded to always be watchful and be ready so to intentionally switch off your thoughts in my opinion is actually sinful.

I think that's just a misunderstanding - focusing your mind so that you are not distracted by random thoughts is one of the purposes of meditation, I don't see how that could lead to sinful thoughts, quite the opposite. It's the lack of mental discipline that can lead to letting your mind wander where it shouldn't, not the opposite.

Fair point and my apologies as I had misunderstood you when you said switch off your thoughts to mean be thoughtless instead of focusing on something else so as not to be distracted. I still think what our focus on should be scriptural though. There are different types of meditation and some are more secular and some are explicitly religious so caution and wisdom is advised.

True. When I do meditate I often just think over and over 'Jesus is Lord' - I don't think that has any kind of spiritual affect as such, it's more the practice of learning to keep your mind on one thing and let go of any distracting thoughts that creep in. I know that the idea of meditation has a lot of pseudo-spiritual baggage attached to it, but it can be a purely practical exercise also. Used regularly it can have health benefits.

You can NOT learn the mind of God or the promise of His blessings by watching youTube or Facebook.

READ THE BIBLE.

I'm serious. Read God's word. What you see on youTube is an endless tossed salad of philosophy and contentious ideas. It's entertaining, but not efficacious.

READ THE BIBLE.

Well I wouldn't do this success manifestation, I'd do other kinds of meditation. But if basic meditation is sinful then so is napping. Meditation is an extremely basic exercise of your patience, and self control. And if you meditate while thinking about God, then it's actually impossible for any demons to harm you, so long as you build on your trust of God of course.. It doesn't have to be exact words from the Bible you think about, it can just be any of the great work that God does that you think about. Like feeling thankful for all the things that are nice and produce positivity and joy in your life.

Or all the lessons God has taught you, or the fact that he feels every bit of your pain, and is still there waiting to lead you. Or you can say a prayer and see what doubts arise and ask God to give you patience and security in his comfort.

[WARNING]
The form of meditation promoted by secular and semi-religious groups is a form of self-hypnosis. As such it is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS with regard to its influence upon the mind and spirit.

Meditation opens the mind and spirit to influences outside the natural world - demonic forces. DON'T DO IT.

Biblical meditation is completely different and is efficacious to normal Christian living.

This is how it works;

Find a good scripture verse or groups of verses. Many daily guides to Christian meditation provide daily scripture quotes. Refer to the scriptures quoted there, NOT the interpretations and expansions that may be offered by the publisher or author.

or just use the Bible...... (an enlightening concept if ever there was one)

Take these scriptures and consider their implication for your life, for the lives of your family and friends and how God intends it to be put to good use in your life, your mind and your heart. This active consideration and contemplation on a daily is a healthy thing.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

I agree with parts of both of your posts. It's very important no matter how hard it is, to be educated on all the great symbols of inspiration in Bible stories, the connected themes, the philosophy.. the simple flow of God's voice that's packed with wisdom and love. But as a person with terrible mental health, I learned that some people just aren't capable of the traditional forms of worship. When it's very common in your day to be overwhelmed with stress, or to be dead tired.. then regular prayer will feel like borderline meditation because of your exhausted tone. God wouldn't turn his back on people like me, right? That's why the awesomely protective God of ours wouldn't let meditation be some crazy danger to us.

I don't have any issues with meditations that help your prayer life or stress level and calm down. Music is one of the greatest gifts from God to help uplift us (and worship) in so many ways. Just be careful not to get into some of the more bizarre stuff. I have a friend who has had some bad experiences opening herself up to some very New Age and questionable meditation videos on Youtube.

Is manifesting success in your life a new age belief?
It doesn't hurt to think and dream and imagine and plan to be successful. But demanding that God grant health and wealth as the word-faith people do just seems wrong and unbiblical to me. And visualizing things into existence seems wacky.

Read The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. It's incredibly inspiring and he addresses the subject from a Christian standpoint. You may also find it helpful to listen to an audio version of the bible in your home and have it playing while you sleep. It has a calming effect on the atmosphere and your spirit. I've done so during difficult moments and when under spiritual attack.
