is any one getting down on both knees when they are praying at home?

Prayers before bed I kneel, but in general, I pray sitting in my chair.

It's advised that we pray in a way as not to be distracted by various things including physical discomfort.

I began saying morning prayers from a devotional, back in my early days as a revert.

However, after becoming a Discalced Carmelite, Secular, I learned how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours and now my day begins with praying the Liturgy of the Hours, and then 20 minutes of Contemplative Prayer. Also, because my wife and myself are both OCDS, we pray the evening prayer together before supper.

Not sure whether these are of help:

Notice the prayer in my signature taught to the children of Fatima.

I love the chaplet of divine mercy.

St Francis prayer

Also look at padre pios novena.

In the morning, I want to devote my life to God daily, by saying a devotion before the crucifix and candles I now have set up in my home.

I cross myself and then light the candles and then say what specific prayer?

Is it OK to hang a rosary next to the crucifix?

Can I just say the our father, or is there such a thing as a half rosary?

I have wanted to say a specific prayer of devotion to god and serving Him and loving Him, every day.

The candles I bought are st jude and an angel....should I get others?

You only need to be sincere.

I would remind all posters in this thread that the OP - kat1 titled the thread : "Catholics only: please help....."

I would there ask that posters abide by her wishes and respond only if they are Catholic. The SoP for this board can be found here Statement of Faith - OBOB Statement of Purpose

Your co-operation with this is appreciated

There are no rules when it comes to how you pray (unless you pray the divine office which at this stage in your journey would be too much for you).

In the morning, you could just sit/stand/kneel before a crucifix and meditate for a few minutes on the life of Jesus. Perhaps say the Our Father and then perhaps just a prayer in your own words offering the day to God and ask for his grace and protection. Start off small, don't get too bogged down with wanting to be as proficient as those who have been Catholic for years (even those who have been Catholic for years struggle with this).

In the middle of the day, you could mentally recite 3 hail marys.

Before bed you could kneel at your bedside and in your own words thank God for the day and all he's done for you and pray for loved ones and those who have been unkind to you.

You are a beginner, so there is no rush for you to learn everything.

You also don't need to go out and buy lots of candles relating to devotions or saints. All you need is your own mind and love for God.

Start small and build your way up. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Thank you so much for this guidance; its really good.

this is really perfect for me.

its simple and broken down into bits, small bits, that I can follow, bc they are not too hard to do and easy to understand

I like the only saying 3 hail Marys in the middle of the day....that I can do!

I like the kneeling down at the bedside too....its perfect

I already stand at the little shrine I have made and say the our father and pray for daily grace and protection, as well as starting to say the prayer to the sacred heart of Jesus, to daily devote my life to him....

I love the candles actually and I love to light them and talk to Saints and Guardian angels through prayer....this daily meditation on them and asking for their protection and intersession is actually working in my life.

I have been completely healed of an injury after 8 months and being told that I needed surgery to heal it.

Since praying for intersession by St Jude and my Guardian Angel, I have received healing or at least relief from severe pain ....its pretty noticeable...the difference in my life that's occurring through these devotions!

You're welcome. If you start small and simple, then build up, you are more likely to stick with it and have a better prayer life than if you were to jump head first into the more complicated stuff.

An added idea is the Jesus Prayer, as somebody else mentioned. Many monks will say this simple yet powerful prayer many times throughout the day to keep their minds focussed on God. So if you ever feel that you need to, at any time of day, while you are working or eating...anytime, just say "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a Sinner".

With regards to candles, they are great! My point was simply that they are only aides and are not necessary to have devotion to the saints. So I was just saying don't feel the need to go out and buy lots of candles for different saints and don't worry if you can't find specific candles. They are merely tools in which to pray. All that is needed is yourself.
God bless!

"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a Sinner".

I love it! short, sweet and reverent....a great prayer to say through out the day, thank you very much!

You are right, it takes something easy so as to stick to it and not give up...

So sage to advise to start simple, then build up.

I've never really had a prayer life before!

Its so impressive how the normal way of living Catholic is to weave prayers all through out your daily life....

So this is a beginning for me, and my life has been turning....slowly turning, changing from within

the Holy spirit is changing me...the conversion is so amazing and very very real...

renewing your mind takes dedication and focus while praying every day, all through out the day

Thanks for the encouragement
