I thought I would make a thread on where prophecies in the book of Revelation can be found in the OT.
Before I start off, someone referred me to this site some years back where it made reference to 348 "allusions" in Revelation from the OT.
Now, I don't really know about that figure, but it got me to delve more into the OT to find out where some of these are mentioned, and there is indeed a plethora of them.
So I loaded up with Lexicons, Concordances and Interlinears.
Feel free to put up OT and NT similarities and I pray we are edified by them.
THE SYMBOLISM IN BOOK OF REVELATION
REVELATION IF FILLED WITH OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES
I like the book of Joshua and the similarities in Revelation concerning the 7 Messengers and 7 trumpets/shofars.
The fall of Jericho is mentioned in Hebrews:
Hebrews 11:30
by faith the walls of Jericho did fall, having been surrounded for seven days;
Here are a few verses from Joshua 6, 7 priests and trumpets and the fall of the walls of Jericho:
Joshua 6:
4 and seven Priests do bear seven trumpets/shofars of the jubilee before the Ark.
And on the seventh day, ye compass the City seven times,
and the Priests blow with the trumpets,
16 and it cometh to pass, at the seventh time, the Priests have blown with the trumpets, and Joshua saith unto the people, 'Shout ye! for Jehovah hath given to you the City;
20 And the people shout, and blow with the trumpets, and it cometh to pass when the people hear the voice/sound of the trumpet, that the people shout -- a great shout, and the wall falleth under it, and the people goeth up into the City, each over-against him, and they capture the city;
Trumpets and Messengers mentioned outside of Revelation:
Matthew 24:31
and he shall send his Messengers with a great sound of a trumpet,
and they shall gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens unto the ends thereof.
1Co 15:52
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, in the last trumpet, for it shall sound,...
1Th 4:16 because the Lord himself, in a shout, in the voice of a Chief-Messenger, and in the trump of God,.........
Jude 1:9
yet Michael, the Chief Messenger, when, with the devil contending, he was disputing about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring up an evil-speaking judgment, but said, 'The Lord rebuke thee!'
Hebrews 12:19
and a sound of a trumpet, and a voice of sayings, which those having heard did entreat that a word might not be added to them,
The 7 Messengers and 7 trumpets in Revelation
Revelation 8:
2 and I saw the seven Messengers who before God have stood,
and there were given to them seven trumpets,
6 And the seven Messengers having the seven trumpets make ready themselves,
that they should be trumpeting
Revelation 10:7
but in the days of the sound/voice of the seventh Messenger, when he may be about to be trumpeting, and the mystery of God may be finished, as He did declare to His own servants, to the prophets.
Revelation 11:15
And the seventh Messenger trumpets, and there came great voices in the heaven, saying,
'The kingdoms of the world did become those of our Lord and of His Christ, and he shall reign to the ages of the ages!'

THE SYMBOLISM IN BOOK OF REVELATION
REVELATION IF FILLED WITH OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES
I will start it off with the 7 trumpets in Revelation and OTThe book of Ezekiel follows Revelation all the way through... AND DEALS WITH JERUSALEM!! Ezekiel 16 calls Jerusalem the harlot, just Like Revelation does in chapter 17 and 18. And Rev 18:24 matches Jesus words about Jerusalem in Matthew 23:35.
One more VERY important note we must see. REVELATION PARALLELS EZEKIEL PERFECTLY!
Ezekiel is the Old Testament version of Revelation. You start in Ezekiel with the chariot of Cherubims, and Christ seated atop on a sapphire throne. Christ is seen as golden or amber from his loins upward, and fire from his loins downward (see last few verses of Ezek. 1)............
One man studied and found 348 allusions (not illusions, Light) in Revelation from the Old Testament. You see the similarity in wording and the context mirrored in Revelation and the particular Old Testament story, and immediately can recognize the reference source! That’s, IF you know the bible well enough to even notice that.
95 of the 348 plain references used in Revelation as taken from the Old Testament are repeated in Revelation. That makes about 250 Old Testament passages are cited. How many chapters are in Revelation? 22. That makes about TEN OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES FOR EVERY CHAPTER!
One man saw 235 references in Revelation from the writings of the Prophets.
57 from the Pentateuch.
56 from historical and poetic books of the Bible.
So anyone can see that Revelation is founded upon the Old Testament more than any other New Testament book! God is not going to give visions to His people using unknown references and symbols. The whole point is REVELATION! It is REVEALING!
