I thought I would make a thread on where prophecies in the book of Revelation can be found in the OT.

Before I start off, someone referred me to this site some years back where it made reference to 348 "allusions" in Revelation from the OT.
Now, I don't really know about that figure, but it got me to delve more into the OT to find out where some of these are mentioned, and there is indeed a plethora of them.
So I loaded up with Lexicons, Concordances and Interlinears.
Feel free to put up OT and NT similarities and I pray we are edified by them.

THE SYMBOLISM IN BOOK OF REVELATION
REVELATION IF FILLED WITH OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES
The book of Ezekiel follows Revelation all the way through... AND DEALS WITH JERUSALEM!! Ezekiel 16 calls Jerusalem the harlot, just Like Revelation does in chapter 17 and 18. And Rev 18:24 matches Jesus words about Jerusalem in Matthew 23:35.
One more VERY important note we must see. REVELATION PARALLELS EZEKIEL PERFECTLY!
Ezekiel is the Old Testament version of Revelation. You start in Ezekiel with the chariot of Cherubims, and Christ seated atop on a sapphire throne. Christ is seen as golden or amber from his loins upward, and fire from his loins downward (see last few verses of Ezek. 1)............

One man studied and found 348 allusions (not illusions, Light) in Revelation from the Old Testament. You see the similarity in wording and the context mirrored in Revelation and the particular Old Testament story, and immediately can recognize the reference source! That’s, IF you know the bible well enough to even notice that.

95 of the 348 plain references used in Revelation as taken from the Old Testament are repeated in Revelation. That makes about 250 Old Testament passages are cited. How many chapters are in Revelation? 22. That makes about TEN OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES FOR EVERY CHAPTER!

One man saw 235 references in Revelation from the writings of the Prophets.
57 from the Pentateuch.
56 from historical and poetic books of the Bible.

So anyone can see that Revelation is founded upon the Old Testament more than any other New Testament book! God is not going to give visions to His people using unknown references and symbols. The whole point is REVELATION! It is REVEALING!
I will start it off with the 7 trumpets in Revelation and OT

I like the book of Joshua and the similarities in Revelation concerning the 7 Messengers and 7 trumpets/shofars.
The fall of Jericho is mentioned in Hebrews:

Hebrews 11:30
by faith the walls of Jericho did fall, having been surrounded for seven days
;

Here are a few verses from Joshua 6, 7 priests and trumpets and the fall of the walls of Jericho:

Joshua 6:
4 and seven Priests do bear seven trumpets/shofars of the jubilee before the Ark.
And on the seventh day, ye compass the City seven times,
and the Priests blow with the trumpets,

16 and it cometh to pass, at the seventh time, the Priests have blown with the trumpets, and Joshua saith unto the people, 'Shout ye! for Jehovah hath given to you the City;

20 And the people shout, and blow with the trumpets, and it cometh to pass when the people hear the voice/sound of the trumpet, that the people shout -- a great shout, and the wall falleth under it, and the people goeth up into the City, each over-against him, and they capture the city;

Trumpets and Messengers mentioned outside of Revelation:

Matthew 24:31
and he shall send his Messengers with a great sound of a trumpet,
and they shall gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens unto the ends thereof.
1Co 15:52
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, in the last trumpet, for it shall sound,...
1Th 4:16 because the Lord himself, in a shout, in the voice of a Chief-Messenger, and in the trump of God,.........
Jude 1:9
yet Michael, the Chief Messenger, when, with the devil contending, he was disputing about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring up an evil-speaking judgment, but said, 'The Lord rebuke thee!'

Hebrews 12:19
and a sound of a trumpet, and a voice of sayings, which those having heard did entreat that a word might not be added to them,

The 7 Messengers and 7 trumpets in Revelation

Revelation 8:
2 and I saw the seven Messengers who before God have stood,
and there were given to them seven trumpets,
6 And the seven Messengers having the seven trumpets make ready themselves,
that they should be trumpeting
Revelation 10:7

but in the days of the sound/voice of the seventh Messenger, when he may be about to be trumpeting, and the mystery of God may be finished, as He did declare to His own servants, to the prophets.
Revelation 11:15

And the seventh Messenger trumpets, and there came great voices in the heaven, saying,
'The kingdoms of the world did become those of our Lord and of His Christ, and he shall reign to the ages of the ages!
'

I'm aware of one similarity between the book of Revelation and the OT. In Revelation 21 John sees the New Heavens and the New Earth that Isaiah prophesied about in Isaiah 65. I think that's just one of many similarities though.

Now this is really awesome.
[I have a thread on the "wilderness" here for those interested:]

"BEHOLD! YOUR HOUSE IS LEFT TO YE DESOLATE/A WILDERNESS!"
"Your house is left to ye a wilderness!"

Note Ezekiel gets taken by the spirit and lifted up and brought to visions of Jerusalem:

Ezekiel 8:3
He stretched out the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my hair;
and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem,
to the door of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.

A similar event happens to Jesus when He is led up into the wilderness by the spirit confronts the pesky Devil, who also shows Him Jerusalem and sets Him up on the wing of the Temple.

Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
5 Then the devil took him to the holy City, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple<2411>,
Mark 1:12
Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.
Luke 4
1 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
9 And he led Him to Jerusalem and set Him upon the pinnacle of the temple,

A similar event happens to John in Revelation.
Jerusalem = Woman?

Revelation 17
3 and He carried me away to a wilderness in the Spirit,
and I saw a Woman sitting upon a scarlet/crimson-coloured<2847> beast, full of names of evil-speaking, having seven heads and ten horns,
4 The Woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet<2847>, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls,..............

Isaiah 1:18
1 A vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
18 “Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the LORD,
Though your sins are like scarlet<8144>,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson<8438>,
They shall be as wool.

Scarlet purple and fine linen are mentioned concerning the Woman/Great City/Queen, as also in the OT:

Revelation 17:4
The Woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet<2847>, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls,..............

Revelation 18:12
merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls,
fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet,
every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory,
every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble;

Ezekiel 27:16

Syria was your merchant because of the abundance of goods you made.
They gave you for your wares emeralds, purple, embroidery, fine linen, corals, and rubies.

Jeremiah 4:30
“And when you are plundered,
What will you do?
Though you clothe yourself with crimson,

Though you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold,
Though you enlarge your eyes with paint,
In vain you will make yourself fair; Your lovers will despise you;They will seek your life.

Song of Moses:

Exodus 15:
1 Then Mosheh is singing and sons of Yisra'el this song to Yahweh
and they are saying to say of "I shall sing to Yahweh that to exalt He exalts. Horse and one riding of him He heaved into the sea [Reve 15:3]
21 And Miriam is responding to them "sing ye to Yahweh, that to be triumphant He is triumphant,
horse and rider He heaved into Sea.

And the song of Moses and also of the Lamb:

Revelation 15:3
And they are singing the Song of Moses, the bond-servant of God and the Song of the Lamb saying "great and marvelous the Thy works, Lord! the God, the Almighty.
Just and true the ways of Thee, the King of the saints" [*ages/*nations].
[Exodus 15]

Revelation 5:9
And they sang a new song, saying:
“Thu are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals;
For You were slaughtered, And have redeemed us to God by Thy blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

Revelation 14:3
They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders;
and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the land

Song of Moses - Wikipedia

Biblical narrative
According to Deuteronomy 31:16-18, YHWH met with Moses and his nominated successor Joshua at the "tabernacle of meeting" and told them that after Moses' death, the people of Israel would renege on the covenant that YHWH had made with them, and worship the gods of the lands they were occupying. YHWH told Moses to write down the words of a song and teach it to the community, so that it would be a "witness for Me against the children of Israel" (Deuteronomy 31:19). Deuteronomy 31:22 states that Moses did as he had been instructed, and in Deuteronomy 31:30 he then "spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song until they were ended".

Deuteronomy 32:1-43 contains the text of the Song.

The Song opens with an exordium (verses 1–3) in which heaven and earth are summoned to hear what the poet is to utter. In verses 4–6 the theme is defined: it is the rectitude and faithfulness of YHWH toward His corrupt and faithless people. Verses 7–14 portray the providence which conducted Israel in safety through the wilderness and gave it a rich and fertile land; verses 15–18 are devoted to Israel's unfaithfulness and lapse into idolatry. This lapse had compelled YHWH to threaten it (verses 19–27) with national disaster and almost with national extinction. Verses 28–43 describe how YHWH has determined to speak to the Israelites through the extremity of their need, to lead them to a better mind, and to grant them victory over their foes.

In a Torah scroll the song is written with a special layout, in two parallel columns.

Great multitude from many nations in OT: Isaiah 60:4-5,11; Isaiah 2:3; Micah 4:2; Zech 2:11; Zech 8:20-21; Isaiah 66:20
Thank you and great post.

What I find interesting is the use of the phrase "former things not remembered/pass away in Isaiah 65 and Revelation 21.

Young's LT]
Isaiah 65:17
For, lo, I am creating new heavens, and a new earth,
And the former things are not remembered, Nor do they ascend on the heart.
Isaiah 66:22
For, as the new heavens and the new earth that I am making, Are standing before Me, An affirmation of Jehovah! So remain doth your seed and your name.
2 Peter 3:13
and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell;

Revelation 12:12
because of this be glad, ye heavens, and those in them who do tabernacle;
woe to those inhabiting the land and the sea,
because the Devil did go down unto you, having great wrath, having known that he hath little time.'

Revelation 21:1
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth did pass away, and the sea is not any more;
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more,
for the former things are passed away.

Great multitude from many nations in revelation: Revelation 7:9
Great multitude from many nations in OT: Isaiah 60:4-5,11; Isaiah 2:3; Micah 4:2; Zech 2:11; Zech 8:20-21; Isaiah 66:20
Worthy is the LORD OF HOSTS, THE LAMB............

Isaiah 13:4
The noise of a multitude<1995> in the mountains,
Like that of many people!
A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together!
The LORD of hosts musters The army/hosts for battle.

Revelation 16:14
For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the land and[fn] of the whole being homed,
to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Revelation 7:9

After these things I looked, and behold! a great multitude<3793> which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb,
clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

Revelation 19:

1 And after these I hear as sound great of a vast throng<3793> in the heaven saying "halleluyah! the salvation............
3 And a second-time they have declared "halleluyah!
and the smoke of Her is ascending into the ages of the ages".
4 And fall the twenty four elders and the four living-ones,
and worship to the God, to the One sitting upon the throne saying:
"amen! halleluyah!".
6 and I hear as sound of a throng<3793>, many, and as a sound of waters, many, and as sound of thunders, strong saying:
"halleluyah! that reigns Lord the God *of-us, the Almighty.

Revelation 21:7
he who is overcoming shall inherit all things,
and I will be to him -- a God, and he shall be to me -- the son,

The word "Almighty" is used in only 1 verse outside of Revelation in the NT, that by Paul...a "Hebrew of Hebrews" [Philippians 3:5]:

2 Corinthians 6:18
'And I shall be to ye as a Father, and ye shall be to Me as sons and daughters
is saying Lord Almighty/pantokratwr <3841>.'
