I am a Trump man, but I think the President got typically thin-skinned, and ignored excellent advice by many people to simply "freeze Acosta out"... basically put him in a line along with a hundred other reporters, let him wait his turn, and stick to a limited number of questions being allowed by any reporter.

Trump got his hand slapped and corrected by a judge he appointed. I bet he doesn't like that.
Wait 'til he has to answer a question from Jim Acosta. :D

The interesting thing will be to see if Acosta's mike gets turned off in the future after he asks his one question. I know if he was allowed one question, I would turn off his mike after he asked it.

I think he is going to learn you soon have to pay for it if you think you are being cute and clever to keep asking questions akin to: "Have you quit beating your wife?".

I wonder how much a Presidential Medal of Freedom costs?

Well a real one costs a lot that money cannot buy, but I suspect you can get a Trump replicate made in China like his brand's ties pretty cheap.

What questions did Acosta ask that were akin to "have you quit beating your wife"? at that press conference?

I agree. The question that Acosta was banned over was something like “Mr President, why do you characterise the approaching refugees as an ‘invasion’?”

Now, agreed, Acosta was very determined and obstinate in wanting to ask that question, but it’s a legitimate query for the media to raise...

No, it was arrogant, only slightly veiled, opinionated and accusatorily argumentative confrontations like:
"Wouldn't you agree with me that you are a bigoted racist for saying...…" ..… that initially got him into trouble. Then he amplified it by continuing with more attempts, in just about every press meeting, to argue with Trump when he had received, and was told that he had received, an answer. He may not know it, but his job is only to ask a question, and record the answer.... NOT to decide if the answer was what he hoped it would be, and then challenge the President about his beliefs.

Because nothing says freedom of speech/press like silencing someone.

Well done Willie, well done.

Well done Willie, well done.
He is not silenced in doing that. He gets to ask the same number of questions every other person in that room gets to ask. And ONLY the same number. He does not get to monopolize and grandstand. Acosta just thinks he is special and better than the other reporters, and he feels he should have more privileges than them.

You think turning someone's microphone off is not silencing????

Umm..ok...I'll back slowly out of this thread now without making any sudden gestures.

Well Willie, to use your own analogy, if somebody had incessantly bragged about having beaten his wife that day, the person asking why he was beating her wouldn't be the one at fault. Trump repeatedly characterized the migrant caravan as an invasion. Any racism or bigotry in that is on account of Trump, not Acosta. Trump continued to do so even after it was repeatedly pointed out to him that it was as loaded of a word as that question you posed. Acosta's question was perfectly valid.

And possibly without thinking. What did I originally post about that? I said he gets to use the mike to ask a question.... and NOT to keep on keeping on with his incessant rhetoric.

Where do your ideas about the “job” of the press come from?
