If people cut about 75% of the animal foods out of their diet, that grocery bill would instantly be much more affordable.
I'm not hurting for $$$, I just went to a more plant-based diet for health & ethical reasons, but I noticed my grocery bill is down about 40% from where it used to be. Beef & Pork are both fairly expensive (and not required for a healthy human diet), and thinks like beans, lentils, and green vegetables are all fairly cheap when comparing price per pound.
People are being fed nonsense (pun possibly intended?) when it comes to diet & nutrition information. They're being told that "carbs = bad" and being conned into thinking that "grass fed beef" is a health food (when it's not).
On a diet of beans & lentils, greens, carrots & sweet potatoes, and a few whole grain products, you can buy a large amount of food for $40-50 a week.
People are in denial about this information, that's why they cling to pseudoscience promoters like "Dr." Josh Axe and "Dr." Eric Berg who tell them what they want to hear (like "Red meat is actually good for you!)
