I am beyond disgusted with both political parties.

Every election it is the same thing: "THEY are evil and stupid and trying to destroy America while WE are good and smart and are trying to save America..."

The problem as I see it is that each party is defined by issues and therein lies the rub. It feels like political parties are more about toeing the line than actual rationale or argumentative methodologies.

What I would love to see is a political party that does not define themselves by litmus test issues. What I desperately want is a political party whom's membership is dependent on your ability to use logic, reason, and data in making your decisions.

Enter the Vulcan Party
The Vulcan Party is first and foremost Data Driven. Science and Math are King, emotional opinions and tear jerking anecdotes hold no sway in this party. This party is all about the data. The equation is simple: Maximize the Utility of America.

Now, at first glance this might sound like Socialism but I assure you it is not. Capitalism is the best form of economy thus it would be the optimum way to maximize Utility for America...

Similarly, this party's mission is efficiency efficiency efficiency... It would take a cold hard look at all the governmental programs, subsidies, etc and eliminate redundancies, inefficiencies, etc.

For example-- It would look at our exploding prison population and ask the basic common sense questions like, "Why on Earth is our incarceration rate #1 in the world?" and then it would use data driven methodologies to solve that problem (hint this problem is very easy to solve).

There would be no such thing as a "left" or a "right" in this party because that is irrelevant. All that is relevant is the net benefit to America and your ability to use a data driven methodology and logical argument to support your case.

Incidentally a fallout of "what's best for America" would include favorable alliances and relationships with our allies because the world economy is interconnected...

In a nutshell, a data driven, math based, and logical political party is what I dream about. But alas, I don't think such a party will ever be realized in the US... not even close...

OK. So data drives the party's preferred methods.

What drives the Vulcan party's values?

There is the flaw in the basic premise of the OP. The OP assumes that logic will bring everyone to the same conclusions but that just is not what we see in reality. A perfectly logial argument can be made for any side of an issue. Though there is a lot of illogical foolishness out there. The real sticking points between sides lie in the contradictory nature of their basic assumptions more than in their logical reasoning.

Personally, I'm more for a 'Pascalian Party,' although I can very well see how a Vulcan Party may be a better fit for those with more American taste. But as Pascal said,“The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of..."

Personally, I think Trump should (re)form the Know Nothing party. If you haven't heard of it, it was the anti-immigration party that existed for a short time around 1850. It would seem to be a perfect fit for Trump, particularly for his fear-mongering prior to the last election -- and I'm sure he would get a lot of support in that party.

I know the OP is satire, but as a veteran social justice and political activist, I just have to ask some questions on a few important political and social justice issues that are important to me. Asking questions about political and social justice issues is a habit I've established during the 27 years I've been involved in native related social justice and political activism. You don't have to answer my questions, if you don't want to. I'm not trying to put you on the spot. I'm simply curious to know your thoughts. I'd like to thank you in advance, if you decide to humor me by answering my questions.

(1) What is the Vulcan Party platform on tribal sovereignty and honoring treaties?

(2) What's the Vulcan Party platform on LGBT rights and same-sex marriage?

(3) What's the Vulcan Party platform on gender equality within the workplace?

(4) What's the Vulcan Party platform on environmentalism and climate change?

(5) What's the Vulcan Party platform on gun rights and gun ownership?

(6) What's the Vulcan Party platform on access to adequate healthcare and an education?

"Fear mongering" is used by everyone. Which party successfully used the "They want to take away your healthcare!" or "They want to increase the arsenic in your kid's drinking water" approach?

There was an article about this kind of idea in New Scientist recently, pointing out its weaknesses as it happens. Doesn’t address the thorny issue of human nature. I’ve drawn a blank on the author’s name (it’s late here), but in the recent book Sapiens - and I think I read it somewhere else also - there’s the idea that conservatives and liberals have always existed, mentally. The conservatives would be those arguing to stay on the same hunting & gathering area, building defences, avoiding contact with other groups, while the liberals would be those arguing that resources won’t last forever so they should look further afield, maybe make alliances with other tribes, and so on. It’s an interesting idea.

I totally agree with the analogy you posted about conservatives and liberals. I'm posting some other related articles that I think you might find interesting. The first three are Psychology Today articles.

Conservatives Big on Fear, Brain Study Finds

Why Liberal Hearts Bleed and Conservatives Don't

Fear and Anxiety Drive Conservatives' Political Attitudes

Liberals tend to be more empathetic than conservatives, according to new psychology research
