• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I wanted to discuss my involvement with the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR). I got uncomfortable that my threads on CCHR in the past are some of the first pages that come up in search engine for CCHR so I need to explain this more.

I got diagnosed with mental illness (schizoaffective disorder) but I decided for some time that I was against psychiatric treatment because of my religious convictions as a Christian that mental illness is caused by demonic oppression and not biological problems or chemical imbalance. There were some situations in my psychiatric treatment in the past that I considered personally harmful to me and pressure by one of my parents that was unhealthy sometimes taking me to the hospital when it was not really necessary.

So I got in contact with CCHR and they gave me a URL to a Psychiatric Living Will which I printed and filled out, signed, and had it notarized. I felt like I needed this kind of protection during a time when I was without health insurance for a few years (and still have no insurance today). Well after a hospitalization recently I got back on medication and I have decided that I do not 100% agree with CCHR. I agree with them that there are a lot of abuses in psychiatry and I think they are doing a good job exposing those abuses, but I think there is benefit in a moderate level of medication.

The reason to bring this up on this forum is because that although CCHR is represented as a nonreligious organization, I found that CCHR was created by a different religion than the Christian faith. On a website of this religion, it says that they started CCHR. The reason I am uncomfortable with the threads I wrote about the CCHR is because if they show up first in the search engine, what will CCHR and members of this religion think? So I want to say that if anyone involved in CCHR does not want this information about them online, feel free to contact Christian Forums and request for my threads about CCHR to be removed.

Regarding schizoaffective disorder and the DSM (Diagnostic and Scientific Manual of Mental Health Disorders), I still think that a lot of aspects of this diagnosis is unscientific and not true according to spiritual realities. Since mental illness comes from demonic activity, I reject the biological theory behind schizophrenia just like I reject the theory of evolution, or in other words the idea that man evolved from apes. I also do not accept the genetic or hereditary theory behind schizophrenia.

However since I have decided to receive medication I thought I would explain that it helps protect me from situation where I might not be able to sleep for two nights in a row and has somewhat of a relaxing effect on me. So I have decided to accept the label of my diagnosis to some extent as true but I think there are aspects of it that are unscientific and not true spiritually.

P.S. Finally I want to say that if the moderator decides to delete this thread, than please delete the other threads about CCHR. After I posted this I read the guidelines and noticed that this kind of debate is not really accepted here. I do not intend to start a debate.

The CCHR is actually just another name for the Scientology cult.

Much mental illness is indeed largely physical. If the meds work, that's a strong indicator that a chemical imbalance is involved.

Stopping prescribed psychiatric meds is a very bad idea.

I think I should have mentioned that I have changed my view some and think there could be some problems with brain chemicals but I think the issue of demonic influences is being ignored by psychiatry. While I am replying, I thought I would apologize if this was not beneficial to post on this forum because I read the guidelines and discussion of the demonic is not really allowed. However since I am a Christian, acknowledging the reality of the spirit world or demonic activity is a very important part of my faith as described in Ephesians 6:10-18.
