I have no idea where that passage is. For every person who says they were healed by a preacher or whoever, there are just as many who were healed other ways.
I quoted it once a couple years ago, in a forum discussion where some were claiming that all believers should have these signs following them.
Strangely enough i could never find the passage again..
(but that also tells you i'm not with my nose in the Bible too often, i guess...)

Do you know the pride that would arise if someone had all those?

Man's favorite Idol is himself...

The Pharisees did not think they were doing this, but they were wrong (and still are) wrong and deceived (about that) today... And it has been pointed out...

They thought all those "other people" do and are doing that, but did not think they were at all, and when this was pointed out, they would get very upset and deny it, and call you names or things, and want to even do much worse to you...

Their "religion" had blinded them and greatly deceived them... So much so, that you, or one, usually had to use a sledgehammer to get through, or point it out, or to make it known...

I'm tired of sledgehammers... Isn't there a better way...?

Anyhow, Man's favorite idol is himself...

What do you think...?

God Bless!
I could not possibily agree more! Yes! It is everywhere! Man worships his intellect, his inventions, the workings of his heart. He worships his science and his lusts. He has become so enamored, worshipping the creature, rather than the Creator, he has lost his way entirely.

This is the sin of babel. They didn't want a tower to be with God they wanted a tower to be gods themselves.

Head-scratchers are some of the best entertainment.
If even, and/or by, my very own ignorance, it somehow brings honor and/or glory to God, then I think that is very good and very agreeable thing indeed...

God Bless!

Thank you for good sportsmanship. Even though we may disagree in some things, we can still act civil and enjoy each other's kindness.

Just an if your interested. It is very common to hear the word idolatry used from the pulpit without any reference to the fact that it is being used figuratively not literally.
To not distinguish figurative idolatry verses actual idolatry contributes greatly to the general blindness in the minds of modern Christians of just what stupendously great things God has wrought in the earth through the Gospel.

The ancient world was completely subjugated to this greatest of sins and the blackest darkness of actual idolatry. Today’s western world has absolutely no concept of the darkness and madness of a world subjugated to actual idolatry. The most evil disgusting. horrific practices you can find in the western world today we’re the norm of entire idolatrous cultures. If left completely unchecked by heavens influnce, if allowed to run its full course in a nation idolatry led to mass human sacrifice and cannibalism and worse. God’s judgement against such nations had to be total annihilation.

One reason Bible readers don’t think on these things is because idolatry did not run its full course in the empires written of in scripture the Bible. That is because the influence Moses and the prophets held it back. Not so in Cannain or the America’s where great cities were built with giant Pyramid temples where over the centuries perhaps millions of people were sacrificed, there bodies roasted and eaten in great festivals by demonically driven hoards.

In fact so great is the darkness of actual idolatry. I think the the main reason the messiah took so long to come to the earth was because God needed a little toehold. A Normandy beach head for his long planned invasion of the earth where actual idolatry was finally purged from the hearts of the nation he came to. You don’t see Jesus rebuking ancient Israel for idolatry. But you sure see the prophets doing it. Only took God a thousand years to purge this darkness from the hearts of the NT Israelites.

There is a lot more I could say about this. Without the fall of actual idolatry culturally all the rest of the fruit the Gospel can bear in a culture will be stopped cold. We, in the western world live in nations filled with the fruit of Gospel. Despite all the evil present. We can do much better too.

I like your post and a lot of what you said... Much of it is I believe is true and are some very good points made in it...

But, What might Jesus have meant by things like in Matthew 10:37...?

And the word "Idol" that we use today has definitely gone through some changes, from "Idolatry" like in ancient times, and what it meant in ancient times...

But I still believe it is a sin, and that maybe it's meaning was meant to change maybe...? Do you think it had by Jesus day...? If so, do which meaning of it do you think Jesus meant...? Wouldn't he/they (Christ and God) have know the meaning of that word was gonna change by our time...? If they did, would/wouldn't they have anticipated that or possibly meant that maybe even, maybe...? how or what the/that word was gonna change to, or not...?

God Bless!

The gifts you speak of were temporary and ended with the Apostles.

Where in scripture does it say that the gifts were for the Apostles only? My bible says....

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. - Mark 16:16-18

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. - 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

Whatever man’s favorite idol happens to be, if it’s an idol, its antichrist.

Idols in the bible is something you make yourself and then ask it to save you.

So an idol today might be a car, computer, technology whatever. You spend time worshiping your man made idol and hope it will save you.

In some cases our idols do benefit our lives - we are very ingenious at helping ourselves by our own creative work. Sometimes our creative work is very destructive. We cannot though solve the root of the problem with man itself or save us from the one thing we cannot avoid - that is death itself.

We tend to not acknowledge we have a problem within the heart of man or face up to the reality we are helpless in the face of Death. Idols keep us occupied and in denial of the facts.

Paul in 1 Corinthians says tongues, prophecy and knowledge will cease when the perfect come.

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” (1 Corinthians 13:8–10) (KJV 1900)

And scripture is perfect. It is the entire collection of knowledge where the gifts were merely fragments of truth.

Do the knowledge has ceased as well???

The gift of knowledge was not the same as general learned knowledge.

Try putting the real cause as unbelief....

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. - Matthew 17

Not the same. You are confusing the temporal gifts with the enduring fruit of the Holy Spirit.
