Most psychiatric conditions are managed and not cured. Same for things like hypertension, diabetes, etc. That does not mean they don't help people. Everything has side effects including natural things and dietary. For example, drinking water makes you pee...the more water you drink, the more you pee. Drink too much at a time and you can have seizure and die from hyponutremia. When ever taking a new med read the insert and educate yourself. Statins are not blood pressure meds. They control high cholesterol. The possible side effects exist but are rare. Psychiatric meds actually save lives and help people live relatively normal loves even when they only help the symptoms of psychiatric conditions. Natural and diet changes weren't enough for me but a baby dose of an antidepressant and a antiaxiety med means I can leave my house and smile. Addetalk controls my daughters Adhd so she stops spacing out when driving. I believe strongly in the place psychiatry belongs as part of normal well-care for people.I once had a doctor prescribe me meds for depression. He didn't bother to tell me their negative side effects, like that they can cause certain nutritional deficiencies. It also turned out I was hypothyroid, which can be associated with depression. He never bothered to check me for that. Quick in and quick out in the patient room leads to more patients seen that day, more money for the doctor.
I had to learn myself how the meds were harming me and had to study for myself how to get off them slowly.
I also had a doctor to once tried to prescribe statin drugs for me because I had slightly elevated blood pressure. She never bothered to tell me the many harmful effects associated with those drugs, but fortunately I knew about them and would not take her prescription (and got a different doctor.) She never bothered to ask about my diet. It was too high in salt and when I decreased the salt the blood pressure went to normal. If I had taken her drugs I would have had more problems which she could "treat" me for later, presumably never bothering to tell me about their side effects either. Again, it was quick in and quick out, grab for the pen and the prescription pad and send the patient on. A nice racket.
Those are just a couple of examples, of countless ones, of how going to a "prescriber" for help can lead in the exact wrong direction. Best to always research whatever they say, with prayer of course. Best to use natural methods if they will work.
Psychiatry has never healed a single mental health problem, but the negative effects of their meds are well known and documented. I have a sister who has been treated with meds and psychiatry for years. She is no better, but definitely much worse and has become obese.
