If a third party gets enough votes in a state that could mean that neither major parties get the 270 votes needed to be elected.
Which throws the vote back to the house of representatives, who will not be populated with representatives of a third party.

I understand that, but the fact that they got votes in the EC could show that they are in fact a choice worth "checking out.

Your posts are giving increasingly less and less persuasive arguments for the EC.

There are fifty states for one or two or five to run the country makes no sense. If you wish to live in a state with particular political leeanings you are all free to move as often as we would like.
Then I guess we should eliminate Texas for the EC.

Even though I am a Republican and never liked Hillary coming from my day back in Arkansas when she was the wife of the governor, I too am glad that the Electoral College only benefits the Republicans and suppresses the will of the voters. I hope the day never arrives when the position is reversed and a Democrat wins without getting the popular vote.
I wouldn't say suppressing the will of the voters, but it does prevent ‘stacking the deck’ in heavily populated states.

It was designed so that the most populated states would not run the country. Same reason we have the house ( based on population and the senate equal no matter the population.
I'm not sure why equally weighting the views of people from places where people actually want to live would be harmful to places where people don't.

It's called having to face the fact that Trump lost the popular vote.
but as of right now the popular vote is not what determines the president.

I saw part of an interview yesterday wherein Hillary said that she still wants to be President. She made no commitment either way re: running again, but certainly left the door open. While I am no fan of hers, I can understand why she might want to try again. After all, she won the popular vote by about 3 million and if not for close results in MI, WI and PA, she would have been President.
Winning the popular vote isn't what's needed for winning a presidential election. And HRC won the popular vote mostly because of California which merely means she could be governor of that state.

As she should have learned, winning the popular vote isn't what's needed for winning a presidential election. And she won the popular vote mostly because of California which only means she would have a high chance of winning if she ran for governor of that state.
It does not tell us that either.

Because all it showed was that given the choice between her and Trump they chose her. That tells us nothing about who they would vote for if there were other options or about who they want as the chief executive of their state.
