Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. -Jeremiah 17:5-6

My guess?

The Salt Lake Valley was desolate when Brigham Young led the first group of pioneers there, so he's probably trying to imply that the decision to settle there is somehow "proof" we're all evil and Satanic.

...Never mind the fact that the membership quickly went to work on an absolutely massive terra-forming project, thereby turning desolate land into a breadbasket.

Doesn't matter what they did when they got there, they didn't trust in the Lord and ended up in a parched land of salt.

And to continue in the chapter...

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. - Jeremiah 17:7-8

Oh! For the old North Carolina / Virginia Pentecostal Holiness! Whose worship was accompanied with....

1. Joy
2. Shouting
3. Decency
4. Love
5. Prosperity

Here is a short 2-minute clip of times past. One of the reasons we believe in a rapture is because in service it was almost as if the heavens would open and there would be angels above us awaiting to take us in! A movement where you could sense the heavenly powers and very little of the fleshly!

Sorry, all of Utah is not parched land, nor is it all salt land, and there were inhabitants of the Salt Lake area when the Church of Jesus Christ came into this area.

So no, your interpretation is not correct.

Again, read the revelation. The Lord, actually guided BY to this place because no one but the Indians wanted it. It was here they could practice their religion without the affects of persecution for many years before the rest of the country started moving west. By that time they could be a solid community and could defend themselves against those that would persecute.

So again, the Lord brought them here and blessed them to turn the state of Utah into a garden. Still some parched places, and salt land (which are a blessing because we need salt to live), and now millions of inhabitants who grow their trees by a clean and beautiful river.
