Dear saints, I trust that the Lord had been keeping and prospering you
. Sometimes we may have become too familiar with the Lord. So familiar that we may have lost a sense of His awesome majesty. Jesus is our friend and brother (John 15:14-15), but He is much more than that. When we lose an appreciation for His majesty and awesomeness, we lose our intimacy with Him (Jeremiah 2:1-2). When we lose sight of His glorious majesty, we become ineffective (Matthew 13:1-23), dispirited (Jeremiah 2:19), and lukewarm (Revelation 3:16). Christianity becomes a religion and not a way of life (Acts 11:19-26). To re-apprehend the glory of our faith in Him we need to re-appreciate the power of His majesty (Galatians 1:16).
I’d like for us to revisit Exodus 19:18-23. These are the verses which describe the encounter between the Israelites and God Almighty when He revealed Himself in fire, smoke and in a loud thunderous voice. Although, by the grace of God we don’t have to dread the Lord as the Israelites had (Hebrews 12:18-22) it’s important to remember the awesomeness of holiness and majesty. The power of His majesty transforms and re-empowers a saint as it had Moses (Exodus 34:29). Powerful saints are those who keep being transformed by the power of His majesty as they dwell on the glory of His resurrection (2 Corinthians 3:18).
God’s glory also silences us and apprehends our attention. Sometimes, that’s the only way God can speak to us, because we’re too busy talking to Him all the time and not letting Him get in a tiny little word back to us! In Matthew 17:1-13 we see the Lord purposefully taking the Apostles Peter, James, and John to the Mount of Olives. Matthew 17:6 narrates how the disciples were terrified by the thunderous voice of God Almighty (Matthew 17:5). Peter who was a little too comfortable with the Lord and was speaking ignorantly (Matthew 17:4), was silenced to behold the majesty of His glory (Matthew 17:2-3) and God’s own voice. The understanding of His holy and awesome majesty is actually empowering as the Master Himself comforts us (Matthew 17:7).
Standing in awe of God Almighty (Proverbs 24:21, Psalm 33:8) is not merely dreading Him, but to be transformed and empowered by the power of His resurrected majesty (Philippians 3:10). A saint who dwells on the glory of His majesty (Psalm 27:4, Psalm 19) is invincible (Psalm 91)!
