On what basis does a person "commit sin" by taking "God's name in vain" as defined as using the word "God" in a sentence that does not glorify Him?

We have been so indoctrinated about this. There is a lot of confusion in the church about this.

- Sunday is not the Sabbath
- Lying is not prohibited by the TCs, bearing false testimony is.
- Neither is using the word "God" in a sentence that does not glorify Him, but making a dishonest vow using God's name as binding authority is.
What is the point of debating someone, who when you quote very clear and plain scripture(rom2:14&15) stating if you do not have the law it can still be written on your heart, and all you get is supposed context that is supposed to prove it is not really true?

I appreciate your posts, but you are using hearsay as if it is factual. The words of one SDA member does not represent the whole SDA church. That is why I had never heard of the things you were sharing. They are not common knowledge. Even LGW agreed.
I personally heard three sda members doing it one church, and an sda minister on another website said he also struggled with saying that, not understanding it was sin for a long time. I have never heard anyone in any other church I have ever been to use that phrase, let alone laughing as they did so

I guess if one can do gymnastics with the plainly written word all can

Now Karola, how is providing the scripture context to you doing scripture gymnastics? I have only share God's WORD with you to show context in a scripture you have provided. What I have provided was the summarised version of a more detailed study on ROMANS 2 and ROMANS 3 I have looked at. I am happy to share it here if you like? You have provided 2x scripture. I only added the context around these scriptures. You are free to believe them or not. I do not judge you.

Thanks Steve, I know they are not enacted in many states any more. However my point was only that they are still on the books ready to be enacted if need be. Their is no requirement for new laws to be passed.
I take that as a conspiracy theory.

The American population demographics are so diverse now that no one would re-enact such. Consider all the protected groups that would be effected/offended. We have thrown God out of the schools, government, and business. How could this ever be re-introduced? Anything is possible, I suppose. More likely to see the antichrist than a return to "Christian" rule.

Every person in every Church is at a different stage of their christian walk. All are growing in the knowledge and grace of God's WORD. Does this mean that every Christian in any Church are God's people? The wheat and the tares grow together till the end of time. Only those who BELEIVE and FOLLOW God's WORD are God's people and are living up to all the knowledge that God has given them are God's people. These are in every Church.

I do not see it as a conspiracy theory Steve, you can read about it here it is a fact that these laws are still on the law books in every state. They are not currently enforced however. * You can read about them here wiki CLICK ME

I agree. It is pointless from the perspective of winning an argument. However, we have readers that are weighing these things in their minds. We need to present the alternative view to the best of our ability.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Galatians 4:17
Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them.

I mean, the foundation upon which the new covenant is based states God will write the law in a believers heart and mind. Paul endorses this by stating the law is not written in ink for the believer, but on the heart by the Spirit of the living God. I think for many the bible is not really the most important thing, but defending their denominational beliefs. Lets face it, you can make scripture say whatever you want with '''contexts''' can't you

You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2Cor3:3

So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh,a]'>[a] the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code/law written ink ink. Rom7:4-6

Context will soon put the above in its proper place :)

Indeed but as stated earlier God's WORD teaches you cannot know the Spirit of the WORD of GOD unless you first have the letter of the WORD. The letter leads us to the Spirit so that we are free to walk in the Spirit. *GALATIANS 3:22-25; GALATIANS 5:16; ROMANS 10:17; JOHN 17:17; JOHN 8:31-36; JOHN 15:1-26.

This part I agree with. As soon as you start sharing the scriptures with many people they want to get into an argument or start calling you names and disappear.

Yes, many hold onto what they believe to be true, whether it is or not. Like the misunderstanding concerning the TCs that I mentioned. Even you seem to be hanging on to a misunderstanding of the "using God's name in vain" commandment, thinking it refers to cussing. (it does not)

No. You cannot make scriptures say whatever you want with context. That is a misuse of context in my opinion. Context is an important tool for understanding the Bible. I will not let those promoting their own opinions CLAIM that context says otherwise. God meant one thing and one thing only. It is up to us to discern what that is.
