Watching a stage version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

I saw a movie version briefly when I was young but it seemed a bit blasphemous (I don't recall what scene and it was with a childish mind). So all these years I've never watched it. I've heard good comments the past few years, but I think they meant the movie version.

I don't think they got everything accurate in this portrayal but it's pretty evocative in places and something to think about.

It reminds me a bit of the drama dance ministry I used to be part of.

ETA - about that inaccuracy part - the thing ended with the Crucifixion! They did make a nice display of Jesus being received into a cross-shaped opening with a bright light. But he never even got taken off the cross. Last song was about whether or not he was who people thought he was. Oh well.

That reminds me that I had a silly thought last night. I visited another parish for Vespers and Bible study last evening. The priest wore a black cassock and a larger pectoral cross than I'm used to seeing. It made me wonder - silly like I said - does he wear it at home? I've never seen a priest not dressed like a priest. The only folks I've seen in their "homes" are monastics, and they are always dressed as monastics. I've known monks to swim wearing cassocks. So I can't really imagine a priest not dressed as a priest. I'm guessing there may be actual rules about that?
I have a family friend who's a priest. Visited their home a few times in PA when I lived in VA. Only time I saw him in a cassock and pectoral cross was when he was "on duty" so to say. Which meant services at church or on his way to/from prison ministry.

It makes sense (to me) to wear "normal clothes" the rest of the time. But then I thought I read that priests are supposed to dress in a way that identifies them as priests when in public.

I just imagined a closet with nothing in it but cassocks. (In our priest's case, the one time I bumped into him at the grocery store he was wearing black shirt and trousers and a white collar - but he would have been in the office at Church earlier in the day.) But it doesn't quite make sense to me in some contexts - like exercising, or relaxing at home.

When I was being catechized, it was at the Priest's house. Occasionally, Matushka would let me in, and my Priest would walk in, still buttoning his cassock. Now. at the church picnic, he'd wear a western style shirt & funny collar, so visitors would know where to find him.

That makes sense - regular clothes and a cassock can go over them quickly when needed?

I just can't imagine my priest in jeans or something lol - never seen him "not in uniform". I surely hope they get to wear normal clothes.

I was just curious what was on that building behind your building, like what kind of store or shop. So I zoomed in and couldn't help but chuckle. Any plans to put up an "I'm with stupid" sign?

That's the TRUE JESUS CHURCH. A Chinese, Sabbath worship congregation. I've never come across that particular combination before! The trailer on the right side is where we've been worshiping for the last 9 years. It looks a lot nicer on the inside. :) We'll still use it for our fellowship & Sunday School times.

Congrats on all the progress! I hope I can visit sometime soon!

You know I will tell you - that trailer has the distinction of being the house for the one and only Divine Liturgy my husband has ever attended. And he DID enjoy it. The way it was on the inside was perfect for his particular sensibilities I think. For that reason alone it will always hold a special place in my heart. That and the weekday service I attended (Paraklesis to the Theotokos I think?) on my way out of town - before dawn. Almost no one showed up - only myself and the two chanters I think - but it was beautiful and so peaceful and the perfect way to begin a long (and somewhat hazardous) drive.

Your parish holds several treasured memories for me. And some of the best fellowship hour conversation. :) God be with you all.

It was wonderful to have you and your husband with us. We’ve come through many trials since then, but God brought us through. I hope you can come again, too!
