does harmless mean we stand idle and silent while people perishing in known sin justify it and drag others down with them?
or do we ,as peter says , warn All men ....
in the eternal picture ,which is more loving ,since love seeks not its own but the good of all others.
there are twoforms of rebuke indeed.
there is that of the holy Spirit and that of religious spirit.

they are not hard to discern in the end.
the religious spirit seeks ways to murder those of the Holy Spirit.
history has proven it to be the case.
we may rebuke a man for the error of his ways and warn him ,and we are to do so.
and that is all.
the religious spirit rebukes a man for warning peopke ,seeks to silence the person and ultimatly puts them to death in anact of murder saying they are doing Gods work .
as it was for Our lord ,so it will be for his disciples.
The Bible gives guidance about the manner in which we correct people:

"If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. "But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. "If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. (Matthew 18:15-17)

Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. (Galatians 6:1).

There is a particular way and attitude in which correction of others should be done. Also, you need to know whether you are in a place where you have the right to go and correct others. Elders and deacons, because they are part of the leadership team of a church have that right because they are mature and experienced, otherwise they would not have been appointed to those positions in the church.

Problems are caused when any old tom dick and harry goes around correcting others as if they are in charge of the church. Jesus talked about trying to take a speck out of a brother's eye when there is a big log in one's own.

The word "rebuke" is not the correct word to use when correcting a brother and sister in a fault. Rebuking is not being gentle and kind and can appear as an arrogant and "holier than thou" attitude.

thats a wonderful and correct piece of advice for when a brother sins
but is not very practical when 100.000 brothers are sinning ......-then we have to preach the gospel

Simple prophecy is merely comfort, edification, and exhortation. It can also be the delivery vehicle for word of knowledge and word of wisdom.

You don't have to be a prophet to prophesy, right? I'm not a prophet, but I get these Words from the Lord (knowledge or wisdom). Like the last one really confused me for a long time so I won't repeat it, besides the CF forum staff does not condone prophesy. I sure can't blame them with so many people thinking they are prophets. I am not a prophet okay just making that statement right now ... Just a Spirit filled regular ole nice guy

Same for me. Words of wisdom and knowledge. I am not a prophet, but i listen to the move of the Spirit

Sometimes a prophecy or word of knowledge or wisdom can come from the most unintended sources.
ie. A billboard advertising Guinness.
Yes, the Lord led me to use a statement from Guinness in a letter I wrote to my parents in 1978, on receipt of which they both gave their hearts to the Lord.
"Guinness?
I haven't tried it because I don't like it"

The words were there for the whole world to see, yet the Holy Spirit highlighted them just for me.

In a similar manner my mother in law received a word of knowledge.
She was travelling a distance to see her son when she realised that she was both late and lost. This was before the era of mobile phones and the panic started to rise.
Suddenly a car towing a motorboat pulled out in front of her. The name of the boat was written in bold letters right in front of her eyes. "DON'T PANIC!"
In her spirit, she realised that the Lord was directly addressing her and she was filled with the peace of the Lord.

In both cases, the words were lifeless and static, but made alive to the recipients by the Spirit of God.
Over the last 40 years, the Lord has spoken to me countless times through his accurate highlighting of such alternative media.

This is similar to what happens when the Lord quickens a verse of scripture to people. Unfortunately most Christians disallow such a thing to happen outside of scripture, and are thus deaf and blind to the caring hand of the Lord.
Others foolishly presume that everything they see is a word from the Lord whether the Holy Spirit is there or not. Such christians are no better than people who read their horoscope.

I have received messages from the Spirit via many ways. Song lyrics... some secular. Movies and TV shows. Books, stories, even historic accounts. I find it is very easy for the Spirit to convey a complex message with such metaphors. I have also prophesied since I was 17 years old... just a couple weeks after I was saved. I actually prophesied before I spoke in tongues. This is 1971. I knelt next to my bed and prayed to be baptized with the Holy Ghost and fully expected (and wanted) to speak with other tongues. Nope. The words "I have loved you with a great love..." came out. At that moment it was exhilarating and exciting! When I came back down I was a little afraid. Was that right? did I do something wrong? A short time later I found in the book of Acts that believers who are baptized with the Holy Ghost both speak in tongues and prophesy. In Acts 2, Peter even quoted Joel 2 "This is that... they shall prophesy...".
So I was happy to find out it was a legitimate thing to happen!
These gifts merge and are used in a compound manner sometimes. Beautiful. I love it!!!!

Yay! Totally agreed, that's the nature of God for those who want it.
Wonderful testimony.

I remember you dids from the early days ... you use to have every subject covered about Christianity for Spirit Filled men and women ... Glad I'm not alone in the reception of Gods beautiful gifts. I'm so slow to learn, but I like to think it sticks.

Sometimes I just get words for me ... that must be the Word of Knowledge, uh? Sometimes I get words for the body of Christ that must be the Word of Wisdom, uh?

Example the Lord won't hear my prayer while watching a football game (for that football team) due to He has already decided what to do and I am just wasting my time to tell Him what I think should happen next. Now I'am starting to think that pertains to politics too

Yes saint, I remember you also. Good to see some of the old crew up in here!
Hard to believe it has been 17 years at CF this march. The Lord is good.
