Yeah except she was the mother of all living before she had any children unless the bible doesn't mention some of her children by name. I always thought Adam named her after Cain but I guess not.

Yes. She was named before she had children--at least before she had the first male child. But Adam named all the animals and he knew that all animals and that he and Eve would all have offspring. Since they were the only humans, he knew she would be the mother of all humanity.

You said the men were alive and living under ground and cited that verse but in fact you were wrong, the verse does not support the men spoken of were alive living under ground.

The verse is not talking about the children of men being dead but tree being delivered into death. Not only that but look at verse 17. Who are those slain by the sword. If Adam and Eve are the only "people of earth" the who are those slain by the sword in verse 17. It sounds like a battle between many.

Shouldn't it read, "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she EVENTUALLY WOULD BE the mother of all living."?

Not to mention the verb is in the perfect tense which is usually understood as past tense ie: completed....as in Eve was already a mother when Adam named her? I find this interesting.

She could have had children before Cain--however, they would have had to be female--only males were named. But after the fall is the first time that "knowing" was used and then she bore the child. It doesn't read and he knew her again. Reads more like it was the first time. Besides, it wasn't even until after the fall that they realized they were naked, so it makes no sense that they would have been sexual before that realization to kick things off!

I see a lot of assumptions. Curious, how do you know females weren't named? Eve was...

I see a lot of assumptions. Curious, how do you know females weren't named? Eve was...

Throughout the bible--females were named only when they were important to the story being told. Genealogy was from firstborn male to first born male, which is how the inheritance was done. It was a patriarchal society. In the bible the family genealogy is traced through the males, not the females. Every family was looking for a promised savior--male. Eve, of course, was very important to the story! Even today--many societies still do this, Jews still do. However, what determines your Jewishness is the mother. What determines the family is the male--today there are people trying to redo this--they want to include either sex to determine the Jewishness of the child. In other words, if the mother is a Jew, the child is a Jew no matter what the father is. However, if the mother is not a Jew and the father is, they are not considered a Jew. This is why, Jesus is a Jew because of His mother, but it is His Father that determines priesthood--in which case, He is our High Priest by virtue of His Father.
When the bible genealogies are listed, NT or OT---not all the children may be named--usually only the first few males, sometimes only the first male, then it will read, and he had sons and daughters. Sometimes they just say he had sons. David had 2 sisters named in 2nd Chron. 2:16--but there very easily could have been more. Only the daughters of David important to a story are named--Tamar--he had many---many. Only 19 sons are named but he had 7 wives and many concubines--tons of kids!

Thanks. So, is it possible that Eve had female children before having Cain...which would literally make her the mother of all living as Adam said? I know you made a couple arguments that it was unlikely BUT was it impossible? I have no firm position on this, I am only asking questions because like I said I find this entire thing to be interesting.
