Dear saints, I trust that the Lord had been keeping and prospering you :). It’s easy to be energetic and enthusiastic when things are going well. But, as one gets older the predictability and mundaneness of life can rob us of the thrill and joy of our salvation (Psalm 51:12). When life’s boring and the routine begins to choke God’s word out of us (Matthew 13:32), it takes superhuman strength and motivation, a second wind, to keep excelling and walking down the straight and narrow road (Luke 18:27).

Let’s consider the example of the prophet Elijah (1 Kings 18:41-46). All of us are familiar with this story. Israel had been going through a severe famine at that time (1 Kings 18:1-6), and God Almighty had promised rain. In the midst of such a famine, Elijah makes a fantastic and incredible promise to Ahab, the promise of heavy rain (1 Kings 18:41). The prophet was extremely patient and faithful, he sent his servant seven times to look for the promised clouds and rain (1 Kings 18:43-44). What followed was absolutely supernatural and spectacular, he outran Ahab’s chariot (1 Kings 18:46). It’s easy to surmise that at least 5-10 horses powered the King’s chariot. That translates to at least 5-10 horse power imparted to Elijah by the Holy Spirit!

The Lord Jesus Himself is a Perfect example for receiving renewed power and second wind from the Holy Spirit. Luke 4 describes how the Lord fasted for forty days and nights, was weak and tempted by the devil. What follows in Luke 4:14 is extraordinary indeed, “Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit…”. It’s impossible for a man who had fasted for that long to become so powerful and energetic in such a short time. The resurrection of the crucified Lord is the ultimate proof for the unlimited power and resources of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11, Philippians 3:10).

Do we need our own second wind today? Has life become dull and boring? Then let’s get alone with God, and receive our second wind (2 Kings 2:9, 2 Timothy 1:6).

Have a good week, saints :).

Can I ask something?

My ex, whom God has been revealing Himself to for three years, has given me an odd challenge. He is a runner and runs marathons. I'm not. I'm lazy and my pace is about 6 minutes per kilometer. My fastest pace ever has been 4:43 min/km but not for long.

But he says that if I can run 1 km in under 4 minutes, he will believe in God. We are not supposed to test God, but he believes by now, and he has been following wisdom from the Bible and listens and asks questions when I talk about God, so he is repentant, he just needs something to break through his hard, exterior atheist walls.

Do you think that the Holy Spirit would empower me to do this if I fast? He has helped me pace myself when I ran a 5 km race before, so I wouldn't quit, and then He pushed me to run faster the last km without quitting. It was an awesome day.

I know this isn't what your post is about, but it reminded me of this odd challenge. What do you think?

Sure, if you believe it's God's will:). But, just so you don't tempt the Lord, check with your physician and trainer (if any) to see if they think you're up to it. Peace in Christ :).
I don't know if it's His will. It seems strange to me to be physically empowered to do something.

I got a complete checkup last year. I'm in perfect shape, because God has been healing every part of me, all except my physical eyes, during the last few years. He has healed my lungs, my wrists, my throat, my stomach, everything, He even removed a scar from my ear drum that was giving me dizziness and tinnitus. And I have been able to walk for hours straight without getting tired since I got saved. I suppose that He is my Great Physician, who tells me if I'm up to it or not. :) But I need to know if He is up for it. :)

Interestingly, I'm not a runner, never did marathons but ever since I've known, the deeper truths (teachings of the Gospel in the Bible rarely preached in churches), I could run faster for longer than I did before.

I don't work out hardcore. I simply put the running in my mind, and let my mind do the running, not with brute strength. As you pick up speed, you feel the weight of your body starts to disappear, you move even faster until you feel the pressure of the rushing wind against your face.

It takes a bit of faith I guess to see if you can overcome physical human limitations. I've been running in such style when I was a child. I've lost it when I went older and got it back recently. I'm not sure if fasting will make any difference. This matter is part mind, if not, mostly about the mind.

I think that if we are empowered by God, we don't have to do anything except focus on Him. Any time that He has empowered me to go through something difficult, all that has been in my mind was prayer. My focus was on God, and I was dedicating it to Him, and He took care of the rest. His powers are not something that we can utilize by our own strength, we can only rely on faith that He will use His powers according to His will.

There are many techniques though that runners utilize to get their body to move well. Physical as well as mental. And then there are drugs and there are demonic powers that we can use to overcome our physical limitations, both of which is sorcery. We all need to be very careful with how we use our minds, by what power, and for what purposes. And we have to be careful of where we place our faith.

I do focus on God. The Word was God (John 1:1) and the Word came to us through Christ (John 1:14).

Unfortunately, this Word is no longer preached in churches for the love of money and the world (do not love the world - 1 John 2:15-17)

The constituent nature of God is the Word and when I have come to know this through fervent and careful study of the Bible, unbiased by the love of money and worldliness of churches, it brought a profound change in me.

To this I would agree, though I would say that it is only part of God's Truth. You still need to be very careful to see if you are really relying on Him or on something else. We all have to. If you are in any way using anything to increase yourself, that isn't God's will or His ways. If you are surrendering to His Spirit, taking up your cross and dying to self to give room for Him in you, then that is according to God's will and His ways. God's Word can be twisted and misused in many, many ways and we have to follow Jesus' teachings so we can be set free. John 8:31-32

You seem good to go:). Just a suggestion, how about running a marathon (solo or with a group of believers, like the "Bikers for Christ" group in America - bikersforchrist.org) for Jesus?

Me running a marathon? :D THAT would certainly require a miracle. :)

I don't think that there is such a thing here in Sweden though, or my ex would have told me by now. But once God saves my ex maybe He will use him to create something like it. :) I'm not the person for that purpose. I'll be the one praying for the weather to be sunny. Unless the runners need some refreshing rain. ;)

Hi Emli - I hope you don't mind me coming into the conversation but I'm very surprised that you are thinking of 'running' with this one. This is not how saving faith works is it. And if you don't run fast enough, he won't believe??
Psalm 147 "He delights not in the strength of the horse: he takes not pleasure in the legs of a man."

@mukk_in - Yea there are times we can all out of steam. Sometimes it's just a matter of pulling into a siding until the driver has stoked up the boiler again. Sometimes, as one gets into the last decades, it may be that one has to recognise and accept the fact that it is no longer hard running that you are called to do. If the direction is right Our Father delights in a steady walk and as Mr. Milton said, "They also serve who only stand and wait."
Go well,

The situation is a lot more complicated than what I posted here. My ex isn't testing God, or demanding a miracle. It's more as if he is curiously pulling at Jesus' sleeve, testing if there is any grace to be found and if He will notice him (in a good way). :)

If this is God's will, I will do this and I will run fast enough. And if this is what it will take to get my ex (whose soul and life I once selfishly destroyed) to be saved and set free, then it will be an act of love on my part. An act for which I will desperately need to rely on God to accomplish. It's not about pride, it's about doing everything possible to see a broken soul be saved.

Indeed:). I'm much stronger and more powerful at 48 than I was at 28! Defies logic, doesn't it (2 Corinthians 4:16). They that wait on the Lord, shall renew their strength indeed:).

I first figured it out when I was a young child. Nobody told me about it. Children can have very vivid imagination and a part of it has effect in reality.

I forgot about it as I learned more mature stuff. And then I remember what Christ said about the Kingdom of God and how the Kingdom belong to those who are like children.

And then it came back to me.

Would you tell me exactly what it was? When I was a child, I had a vivid imagination too, and I had an imaginary friend who I talked to and played with, that later turned out to be an evil spirit. It deceived me quite a lot for many years, taught me things that I know today are very evil. Hidden things, that are part of the occult. Sorcery. Not everything that is placed in our minds is from God. That is why you must be very, very careful of what you listen to.

I never had an imaginary friend even in my childhood.

I would stare up into the blue sky and vividly imagine myself looking back down from outer space as a child. I am still able to do it to this day. The sensation is surprisingly real.

I would do something similar when running and I loved to run when I was a child. I would focus on my pace and the distance between each step I take and then I would imagine vividly the distance becomes null and my weight slowly disappear.

A neighbor caught me doing this and freaked out, recalled me moving at unbelievable speed for a small child.

Jesus did something even far more extreme on John 6. Upon boarding the disciple's boat, the boat darted across the water, crossing a distance of few miles in the blink of an eye! That's even way faster than a bullet!

Hidden things, that are part of the occult. Sorcery.

Not every hidden thing is of the bad occult.

The secrets of the Kingdom of God is revealed to the disciples (Matthew 13:11) and to little children (Matthew 11:25).

But is it really secrets of the Kingdom of God? Does it put all focus on the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit, teaching you about God's righteousness, holiness, mercy and grace, and helping you discern between good and evil? Is the focus on you or on God?

It certainly helps me focus on the Holy Trinity. And I think all gifts from the Father is an extension of His holiness, mercy, and grace. But not every spiritual gift is meant to help you discern between good and evil.

Some gifts are simply for practical reasons or utility, not for discernment. The gift of healing for instance.

The disciples often traveled a great distance on foot. You can imagine how it would be of great help if they have the gift to run great distances with very little effort or without tiring. They may in fact, did.

I think is a most appropriate verse for this thread :)

Isaiah 40:31
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"

I wasn't talking about gifts. The secrets of the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven are there to help us discern between good and evil. Read all of Jesus' parables.

Then there are other things that God can reveal to us, about Heaven, but the main point with our existance is to conform to the image of God who is Christ Jesus. And all wisdom that comes from God will help us be conformed to Him.

Some gifts are simply for practical reasons or utility, not for discernment. The gift of healing for instance.
Those gifts though are still God using His power through us, for His Glory and/or for the edification of the Church.

Yep, this I can agree with. BUT, I have read your posts in the past about how evil spirits have appeared to you. All of that have made me worry about you. Has God delivered you from it?

Yes, these evil spirits have at one point said to me they were messengers from the Lord. They made a grand entrance like the angels. They even looked like angels as they were described in the Bible. They told me things that I want to hear. They even said they also believe in Jesus. They did say the name "Jesus".

But I told them plainly and straight that they are lying and I told them to leave at once. With fear and trembling they left me.
