Isaiah 61:2 mentions the "day of vengeance" of our God:
Isaiah 61:2 [Luke 4:19]
To proclaim the year of the good pleasure of Yahweh,
And the day of vengeance<5359> of our 'Elohim, To comfort all mourners.
5359 naqam naw-kawm' from 5358; revenge:--+ avenged, quarrel, vengeance.
Here Luke quotes from Isaiah 61, but leaves out "day of vengeance"
Luke 4:
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.’
21And He began to say unto them — ‘To-day hath this writing been fulfilled in your ears;’
Luke 21 mentions "days of vengeance" in this Olivet Discourse verse and from what I can see, Luke is the only Gospel writer to mention vengeance.
[It is also mentioned a few times in Revelation showing how much the Gospel of Luke is tied to Revelation.] Pretty fascinating...
Luke 21:
20 ‘And when ye may see Jerusalem surrounded by encampments, then know that come nigh did her desolation; 21 then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; and those in her midst, let them depart out; and those in the countries, let them not come in to her;
22 for these are days of vengeance<1557>, to fulfill all things having been written.
1557. ekdikesis from 1556;
vindication, retribution:--(a-, re-)venge(-ance), punishment.
1556. ekdikeo ek-dik-eh'-o from 1558; to vindicate, retaliate, punish:--a (re-)venge.
#1557 is used only 3 times in the Gospels, all in Luke
Luke 18:[Revelation 4:8 Revelation 7:15 "day and night" Revelation 6:10 "how long......."]
7 And shall not God execute the avenging<1557> of His elect, the ones crying out to Him day and night, and be deferring in regard to them?
8 I say to you that He will execute their avenging<1557> in quickness. Nevertheless, the Son of Man having come, will He find faith on the earth?”
2 Thessalonians 1:8
In flaming fire taking vengeance<1557> on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
The other form of the word "vengeance" is also used only in Luke of the Gospels:
Luke 18:
3 And there was a widow in that city, and she was coming to him, saying, ‘Avenge<1556> me of my adversary.’
5 yet because this widow causes me trouble, I will avenge<1556> her, so that in the end she does not exhaust me, coming to me.’”
And by Paul:
Romans 12:19
Dearly beloved, avenge<1556> not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath:
for it is written, vengeance<1557> is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Used 2 times in Revelation:
Revelation 6:10
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, Owner/Master, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge<1556> our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"
Revelation 19:2
“For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication;
and He has avenged<1556> on her the blood of His servants shed by her.”
