Hi Everyone! So I've been asked over and over (and over!) by one of my besties to please read the Harry Potter books or watch the movies. For years I've said no because I just felt they weren't my cup of tea. I'm not much of a fantasy book lover. I did enjoy Lord of the Rings (books and movies) but Harry Potter seemed different and I just wasn't into.

So a couple of days ago I finally was peer pressured into it, lol. I actually ended up reading Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone in 3 days. It was SO good. I was blown over by the writing, and actually how much of a thriller and mystery it was. Also I had always felt it was going to be childish and really it's actually quite ageless.

So I wanted to know... does anyone like Harry Potter here? How into it do you get? Have you picked your "House" and all that goes along with it? Let's talk about it!

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan myself and have been since before I became a Christian. In fact, I practically grew up with the series. That being said, I tend to get defensive when Christians call it Satanic. It definitely is not. The magic present in the series bears no resemblance to the real Occult(actual people who have been involved in the Occult have confirmed this). There's also countless Christian messages throughout the series as the author is a Christian herself.

I'm done ranting now, haha. According to Pottermore, the main site for official HP content, I'm a Ravenclaw. That is not a shock as I've always felt it was the house I would fit into most.

I like them. I'm glad you finally started reading them. :D I want to reread them this year, but I'm focusing on reading new books at the moment.
I started reading them when I was in junior high, I too was skeptical about reading the books, simply based on the book cover. But they are good!
By the way, the first book is the shortest one, they get longer after that. :D
After you've read them all, let me know your ranking of the books. I will have to re-rank them as I read them this year. But traditionally the 3rd and 6th have been my favorites. And I realized later that there are some similarities between those two that are not as much in the others.
I have done the Pottermore house sorting thing, and get Gryffindor.
@SweetCarolina Mystery is Rowlings preferred genre, and it can be seen throughout the Harry Potter books. I tried reading one of her adult mysteries a few years ago, but I didn't like it at all. The Harry Potter books are much more interesting to me. I remember reading on her old website she had while still writing the books, that her favorite author was Jane Austen. In my opinion both authors are good at writing characters, and story in general.

i grew up with the series by the movies and i'd be in house slytherin but if they just would let half muggle born magicians be tolerated as a custom in that house...for sure... never got into the books though. i still love the movies although i'm only into harry potter movies 1-5. my favorite characters were draco malfoy and lucius malfoy. if only they were a more morally light hearted family with their natural unique affinities to magic according to their house. they had a lot of wealth so money would never be the problem.

The funny thing is I took the Pottermore test and it said Gryffindor. My two best friends were both shocked and told me to take it again, lol. So I did, and other non-pottermore tests also said Gryffindor... So I retook the Pottermore test and it said Hufflepuff. So they were happier with that but just for funies and 2 out of 3 I took the test for a third time and got....Ravenclaw. haha

So I'm preferring to call myself a Gryffinclaw Puff. But I feel very strong that I relate more toward Hufflepuffs. :satisfied:

My Patronus is a Borzoi btw, which I absolutely love and wont change for anything. <3

What got me interested in joining pottermore is I used to watch someone on youtube who had the same mbti as me, and she was a christian and i could relate to a lot of her own views, etc. So she explained the pottermore quiz and talked about what was unique about each house. She got hufflepuff, and it made me curious if I would get it too.
I took it and got griffendor and I think I relate to that house the most. But recently I’ve been intrigued by Ravenclaw. I had forgotten that Luna Lovegood was from Ravenclaw, and she is the character I relate with the most in some ways.
My favorite character was Lupin though.
Anyways, I won’t give any spoilers - you will get there. ^_^

I love Harry Potter. Always have. Haven't read the books since I was a teen but I love the movies. People can say Harry Potter's dark, witchcraft, blah blah... and while there might be an element of truth, ultimately something that is evil doesn't touch people's hearts and make them want to love more. So yeah I'm all for the Potter. My favorite movies in the series are probably the last 3, although I really like Goblet of Fire as well. If you thought you liked the first one... just wait :D

Also I got Gryffendor in the online cup sorting heh.

Never read Harry Potter.. was pronounced evil in my Christian household..

Only weird thing is.. whenever I went to my pastor's house to hang out with their son that was my friend.. they'd try to get me to watch Harry Potter.. lol.

There was a lot of debate about that back then among a lot of Christian families I guess.
But other things were “evil” too like star wars or pokemon.

I was fortunate I suppose that my parents didn’t think that those things were evil. But I had a close friend who was banned from a lot of things as a child.

Lol No it's not but it's funny you mentioned Gilmore Girls because a girl I met over a HP group said "Come join us in our Gilmore Girls group too if you like them!" which was an odd transition but I joined nonetheless. :D

Okay I'm in Chapter 9 of the 2nd book. :satisfied: Things are getting more intense you guys. I wonder if I can get away with discussing what part of the book I'm in and it's not considered spoilers for those who maybe are interested in reading. :p
