Regeneration as I Googled a commentary was what moved on the outside to allow one to have faith that Jesus is Lord. As Peter answered Jesus with : "you are the son of the living God " and Jesus said Flesh and blood did not reveal that to you but my father in heaven.
So some how as DW said God works faith in the person to believe who He is...
Is this regeneration? So if at that time man is awaken does He then receive the spirit simultaneously after He believes merely who Jesus is?
So just maybe believing who Jesus is...is not the same as being a son but part of the process of a regenerated person...someone who receives life, or the Spirit from above..yet the manifestation of one who has been enlightened is evidence by "zoe" a life of peace and Joy. As Faith without works is dead...maybe also knowledge without acceptance is dead...

Hi, even though I am responding to the questions I can answer....Im still looking for an answer or discussion to my initial question and poll. THEREFORE, more or less wanting to know what comes first and a scripture passage, 2nd and a scripture passage and last...Or even if Regeneration is a certain type of process all by itself. or am I just confused in the whole Justification sanctification ideals? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE PIECES fall together.

As for what God saves first, why don't you share...
Smile
I am reading Renovation of the Heart by Dallas WILLARD. I believe I am on chapter 9..
HE MENTIONS God wanting to save the whole person.....I admit I reread his thoughts on The Spirit and Soul..etc and I can't recall what he said...

When I finish reading responses I search for answers online....BUT Never seem to get someone to put all the pieces or add pieces to the puzzle together.

You see for on one hand regeneration is called a new life from above that enters the person.
And on the flip side born again of the incorruptible seed.
Now if you have God's seed it is said it remains in you...but again on the flip side another says you can have this new life enter into you from above more than one....Well how can that be?
So when man is regenerated as DW interprets as New life from above...as oppose to saying born again. To me it is like saying when man is first Justified they do not receive the full package.
So Yes! please Shed your understanding on this poor soul...
To keep this short and bit-size I’m going to stick with step one.

For me and my ‘looking back’ understanding, Jesus set the stage for what’s first and that is “you must be born again” by the regeneration or ‘born from above’ process. This results in the “new creation” or a new spirit in a ‘believer’. In recent years I’ve come to the place where I think that “new creation” in me is “the spirit of Christ in you the hope of glory.” I know of no scriptures which say 'when' you have 'the spirit of Christ in you' other than those which I attribute to this transformation of 'your spirit'. You don't have 'your spirit AND the spirit of Christ' IMO, because scripture says "he that is joined to the Lord is ONE SPIRIT." So, how are you doing so far? As I said let's keep this bite size.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to understand Salvation from the blankest state I can.
And Would like to know of your experiences with regeneration.

Growing up under a Baptist teachings
What I thought I understood was that once you believed Jesus was Lord and savior you were saved at that very moment. So I am down for anyone that has studied or been enlightened of this process of salvation; if is it such a process? This is for open discussion to arrive at understanding. So it would be helpful to evidence your thoughts through scriptures.
God can heal people, this is a type of regeneration. I read the Bible for years and years, yet realized I was not living a blessed life. No matter how many broken things I fixed, I could not do enough. I gave thanks to God for food, shelter and transportation. I recovered from some illnesses and injuries. A torn shoulder capsule was healed. A bone spur disappeared. I was not totally well with gastrointestinal problems. Jesus followers found healing through obedience to God. Today there are many medical texts. Some lay people who studied them long were able to heal themselves and support others. God is to be praised for this also. If a person reads the Gospels hundreds of hours, the person will remember some verses, yet review will be needed. Some used Bible study guides, Biblical archaeology and ancient Near Eastern history to gain context. God has different callings for different people.

Being born again is not to be doomed by past patterns of failure.

salvation is NOT a one time event, but a series of events. this is VERY IMPORTANT if you do not want to get lost in endless discussions of salvation by faith, etc.. from different camps of thought.

you have predestination (God purposed), then election(God chooses), Calling, Regeneration, Faith, Repentance, etc ending up in Glorification. Salvation is past, present and future. You have been saved (predestined, elected, called and regenerated), you are saved (faith and repentance, sanctification), you will be saved (after death and into glorification).

In other words, Salvation started (with God) a long time ago (before creation). When people respond in Faith TODAY , it is APPLIED salvation of what God has already began before time.

as much as people believe you get saved by trusting in Christ (which they preaced in the pulpit or evangelism outreaches), that is only one side of the coin.
Salvation IS a one time event... PERIOD....

You are saved... you become a child of God... then... you grow.. you start with milk and then as you mature as a Christian, you get deeper and become more and more of a light to plant the seeds of salvation in others.

There is no "Regeneration" there is just you... who you were before you accepted Christ and the new you who now strives to be more like Him.

Why do people try to make it more complicated that Christ wanted..

We come as babies... not as educated, expert theologians.......

You accept that Christ was who the Bible says that He was... who He said He was and what He did..

You accept that you are a sinner and on the road to hell..

You humble yourself and admit that you are a sinner and can do nothing of your own works. Ask Christ for forgiveness and salvation through His Blood...

Your saved.... forever.

The last 2 sentences on the last 5 lines has thrown me off a little. For He says He sends the comforter the holy Spirit that resides in you...also Eph..states you are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the Day or redemption. I see the that thought of yours but not sure how to accept the ideal. For there is another passage that states if you do not have the spirit of Christ you are none of his...Maybe I'm missing your Interpretation, for Just because one becomes like minded doesn't mean that their spirit and Christ's are not 2 seperate entities.

Salvation IS a one time event... PERIOD....
Cori asked for scriptures not the philosophy of a "babe in Christ".
The following verse was spoken to CHRISTIANS...Hello!

PHI 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

1CO 1:18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Only KJV incorrectly misses the proper tense of the Greek word "saved" making it sound like a 'past tense' event instead of a PRESENT TENSE process.

I think that is where I am trying to understand how to continual in blessness..
Because I believe we as Christian should always know his presence.
So thanks for sharing
If the kingdom is of peace and joy...where do we stand when we lack peace and Joy? Are we still in the kingdom?
And what do you believe the process of regeneration is? And what does it mean to you?

So I am down for anyone that has studied or been enlightened of this process of salvation; if is it such a process? This is for open discussion to arrive at understanding. So it would be helpful to evidence your thoughts through scriptures.

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."

"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."

"As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him."

"No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit."

"Whoever says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person."

"No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister."

"In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome"

As far as it comes to confirmation, His Spirit can communicate with you. It makes me wonder if you've taken time to talk to God about your life or spent any alone time with Him. Eventually you can start to feel Him and He can lead you and show you things and answer some prayers and let you know He is there or that you belong to Him. It's not really a hard question, but most don't take God as a real person who really does things. He is more of an idea to most or a church teaching or a culture, so, of course they don't know Him when He actually speaks, nor do they listen when He reaches out to them. I am quite sure this question will be handled quickly if you give the Spirit a chance to be real in this in your life and be careful not to look to man to teach you who God is.

OK this goes deep and I'll stand alone in what I've come to believe. I have a Companion Study BIBLE and a book, both written a hundred years ago, which are still in print today because of the well documented information in them. The bible in it's 'study notes section' says translators did a great injustice in capitalization of the words holy and spirit over 50 times in the NT. Let me ask you this question, would you say that 'the body of Christ Jesus is IN YOU, or is "the spirit of Christ in you"? And would you say the spirit of Christ is holy?

Below, is speaking about the pregnancy of Jesus the Christ, in Mary. It comes from the Greek Interlinear translation of scripture which sheds light on those who can see it IMO.

Matt 1:20
"the thing in her begotten of (the) Spirit is Holy."

The word "begotten" in the Greek is;

1080 gennao; to procreate (properly of the father, but by extension of the mother); fig. to regenerate

IOW the spirit of Christ procreated in Jesus didn't need to be born again or regenerated like ours does. Jesus was initially 'born' with the same spirit which we are 'born again' with. That spirit being, the spirit of Jesus which is a holy spirit in us. Translators long ago knew none of this and capitalized h and s making it a proper name for the person of the Holy Spirit, which is wrong and has caused a ton of bad teaching IMO.

Question; was 'the spirit' in Jesus 'the Holy Spirit' or was it the 'spirit of Christ' which was 'holy' according to Matt 1:20. I know this is getting deep now.

Yes, regeneration is the changes in your heart that led up to belief in Christ.

Belief itself is not only believing that Jesus lived, taught religion and then was killed for it. Rather, belief is a saving knowledge of Christ.

That saving knowledge is belief in Jesus's Life, Death on the cross, and bodily resurrection from the dead.(i.e. that Jesus is who He says He is, and did what the disciples/apostles said He did and thus has the power to save you)

the above belief should lead you to a heartfelt verbal declaration of Jesus's Lordship. Romans 10:9

Then you are saved (i.e. justified in Christ). At that point you will be sealed by the Holy Spirit as a guarantee (Ephesians 1:13) to your ultimate salvation upon your death. When God begins a good work in us He will see it through and finish it. (Philippians 1:6) At the moment of your justification, ie your being saved, the work in you is begun.

The guarantee is to help guide you, teach you, bring you to the end of your life, perfected in faith. This is what the Holy Spirit is and does.

The life process of learning, of having a relationship with God, of overcoming you own sin is called sanctification.

At the end of your life, you will be glorified and you will be saved.

A pilgrim's progress (in today's English) is an excellent book to help you visualize all of this, and perhaps better understand it. :)

So I am down for anyone that has studied or been enlightened of this process of salvation; if is it such a process? This is for open discussion to arrive at understanding. So it would be helpful to evidence your thoughts through scriptures.

Simply put if you look at every instance of the mentioning of salvation it refers to a future event. that event meaning judgement. you are saved from judgement is what the idea originally was. but people wanted something tangible so the doctrine changed. In the bible our assurance came from the Holy Spirit but too many people did not have contact with the spirit so rather than re-examine what they were doing wrong again they moved further away from God by making salvation an act of the church or denomination rather than a decision Jesus makes in the future. Meaning if you follow this church or denominational teaching a=b+c=salvation we can certify you saved now! and each church began developing it's own "plan of salvation." a check list theology that people could look at and say they did this this and that so they can know they are saved.

Ever wonder why that feeling still creeps up even after you check everything off the list?

Because that is not what the bible teaches. most of us do not even understand what the faith of a mustard seed is, as it turns out a mustard seed's worth of faith is too much to ask from the modern church if they need to know the moment they were saved.

This is why I ask people who do you think will be in heaven what group what denominations?

The real answer only members of the body. meaning there is no man made formula, we can follow there is not a title we can brand ourselves with. we can call ourselves christian or baptist or even southern baptist and Jesus is not bound to respect that title, he doesn't have to step aside and forego judgement because you belong to this church or than and you are a gold pue member. Christ could give a flip about what we call ourselves or how we identify each other. Remember no one goes to the father but by Christ.. not your denomination or your title but by the judgement of Christ Himself. Which means one man in a row of 10 from your church could make it or the other 9 could while every man make it in another denomination completely.. Not only that I dare say other religions maybe represented in the body of Christ if CHRIST is allowed to choose, and is not bound by our titles and our doctrine. remember No man goes to the father but by Christ says so, not by our check lists or theologies/calling ourselves christian.

In this life even the apostles call themselves followers of Christ or teachers of Christ the looked forward to the day they were saved. remember always spoke of a future event. That is unless Christ Himself was speaking like to the thief on the cross. That's because the thief was judged right there on the cross before he died! everyone else will have their day.

If you want an assurance of your acceptance by God seek out the holy Spirit.. it snot a shaking crazy word thing it is a legit measure of God that will teach direct and comfort you. it is God dealing with you directly. That is how you know if you are or will be saved God is willing to work with you now in this life and you need no one to intercede for you. God will work with you on your level, if you are in the right place/following the right God.

It's getting deep but right up my Alley...after I come back from Bible study I'll respond...
.
Some months ago I was actually studying if there was a difference between a holy ghost and Holy Spirit

I HAVE A FEELing IT'S THE SPIRIT OF Christ..
And I do believe I get it already...why you said "one spirit" because we are a new creation..but the rest still might have to settle or resonate in my head....smile

Let me know if my understanding is going in the direction of your thinking...

Thanks for taking time out to respond...can't wait to hear more!

EPH 2:5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), (PAST TENSE spirit)

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God -- (PAST TENSE spirit)

James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able (future progressive) to save your souls.

Below the whole triune man is mentioned, spirit, soul, body;

1PE 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your SOULS. (future)
1PE 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:(future progressive) 23 Being born again (SPIRIT), not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. (Past tense OSAS)

1PE 1:24 For all flesh (BODY) is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: (no one has a glorified/saved body)

Your spirit's salvation is a one time OSAS event. No 'partial birth' salvations.

Your soul's salvation is a present progressive process. You can take 6 salvation steps forward and then backslide clear back to "like a dog to his vomit, sow to it wallow/mire."

Your body is not eternally glorified or immortal. It is not eternally saved but dying like grass., as Peter told the Christians in verse 24 above. We will not received a saved body until after the judgment seat of Christ where all your works will determine what degree of glory your 'resurrection spiritual body' will have.

Calvinists only understand salvation through the eyes of OSAS, which is only 1/2 of an understanding of salvation pertaining only to the salvation of the spirit.

Armenians only understand salvation through the eyes of 'progression to perfection and backsliding to complete loss' which is also 1/2 of a total understanding pertaining only to the salvation of the soul.

Not looking to debate... take it as its written. We have David saying.. I will call on the lord and He will save me. Who so ever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved. We have who ever believes in Him (Yeshua/Jesus) shall be saved. Blessed are those that have never seen and believe.

Now for ME..if I was there and this man that.. wow no other man looks like sounds like Him...theres something about Him...just shines (we ALL should have that). And I hear Him say.. who ever comes to me.. I will give you rest.. man do I need it. He says if we just believe the Father sent Him.. if we just believe in Him He will give us ever lasting life.

It has not changed. If you take HIM at His word (words) for HE can not lie. You will not some day be saved. You are. For ALL things have become new. We put off the OLD MAN/WOMAN.. and put on the NEW man which after GOD IS "will not some day be" but IS created in righteousness and true holiness. You are WE ALL are righteous. The Father sees us through Christ.. how else can one go before STANDING BOLDLY before the throne of Grace? How can NOW be seated with HIM in heavenly places? Unless you ARE in right standing with the Father aka righteousness.

Ever wonder how if that which is born again (born from above) does not sin. Does not.. can not sin. WHAT was born from above? Not the flesh.. flesh LOVES to sin.. for the things I should do I dont the things I dont want to do I do.. its no longer I... ME that sins but the sin that is in me.

You have a NEW spirit.. that NEW spirit can not sin. There is no way.. its impossible for it to DIE again. Christ has finished it. He died for ALL the sins that were or will ever be. Its over. We still can sin.. this FLESH has not changed. Christ as Paul told the Jewish people that would try to offer a sacrifice for there sinning.. Can Christ die again? There is NO MORE sacrifice for that sin. This all falls under born from above. He when you simply believed gave you a new spirit.

This is not something you can feel hear or see. It has nothing to do with the flesh. If one trys to look at this through the flesh you will never understand. Its spiritual not fleshly. Not of this world.

IF you still get to the point where you still cant see ... ask HIM that is in you to show you. Your the daughter of a GOD.. that Father came for YOU! Gave you everlasting life. So.. it this GOD left heaven to save you.. WOW what else.. does He have in store for you! AWESOME! So.. ask Him.. to open your eyes to see ..ask for wisdom. He gives it to any that ask. KNOW He hears you.. KNOW He WILL answer

you are forgetting one thing, Christ is God, is the God before time.

so it doesnt really start with Christ, it starts before Christ became Christ = the triune God.

and in this aspect God "PURPOSED" and the "CHOSE" a people for Himself.

THAT IS the beginning of salvation, NOT MAN, NOT CHRIST (in time), but GOD (before time began).

its not that complicated really. it simply asks the reasons WHY GOD sent CHRIST in the first place, and not start on why Christ died.

Salvation IS a one time event... PERIOD....

You are saved... you become a child of God... then... you grow.. you start with milk and then as you mature as a Christian, you get deeper and become more and more of a light to plant the seeds of salvation in others.

You accept that Christ was who the Bible says that He was... who He said He was and what He did..

You accept that you are a sinner and on the road to hell..

You humble yourself and admit that you are a sinner and can do nothing of your own works. Ask Christ for forgiveness and salvation through His Blood...

Your saved.... forever.

As a once regenerated person I can tell you that your morals and desires change overnight. You only want God and His moral laws. It's a burning passion for Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately I backslid and no longer have this nature. Warning for anyone here who believes in OSAS doctrine.

DOESN'T CHRIST LIVE FOREVER TO INTERCEED FOR THOSE WHO COME TO HIM?
DIDN'T HE RISE FOR OUR JUSTIFICATION?

When they truly believe and repent of their sin. No need to complicate it. If you need to do more business with God later, he will let you know.
"No need to complicate it" what is that suppose to mean? Have you not just added "truly" to describe believe and repent?
That presupposes that people only are playing the part. Why did you make it complicated? Smile
