Was the temple always the place for God to rest His "feet"?

(1Ch 28:2) Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:

(Isa 60:13) The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.

Did the elders who saw God see His feet - there is a description of what was under His feet? And God did tell Moses:
(Exo 33:20) And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

God said heaven is His throne and the earth is His footstool, doesn't that mean His feet are/can be/will be on the earth? It is written:

Zec 14:3-4 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. (4) And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Any thoughts on God's footstool and/or His feet?

The footstool was an ornate piece of furniture where subjects and emissaries knelt in respect or obeisance to a king, or to receive favors or titles (such as knighthood). God's footstool; the earth, or temple; is wherefrom he would receive worship.

That the earth is God's footstool, and that he views it from "the sides of the north" suggests the location of God's heavenly throne in the northern sky.

The use of "footstool" is symbolic of subjection to Adonai and Mashiach Yeshua as "KING of kings and LORD of lords". In 1 Corinthians 15:25-27 all things, including death, are represented as subject to Almighty LORD, and placed beneath His feet. A "footstool" (metaphor) is a tough place for an enemy of Israel (Joshua 10:24-26).

Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of Him, Who brings Good News.
[1] Who is proclaiming peace,[2] Who is bringing Good News of good. Who is proclaiming deliverance/salvation: Who is saying to Zion, Your God reigns!
[1] Brings Good Tidings or Good News is the verb M'vaser, related to a word bet-sin-resh, meaning flesh.
[2] This is far more than peace. See Good News in Glossary.

Nahum 2:1 (ONMB)
Behold, upon the mountains are the feet of Him who brings Good News, Who is declaring Shalom! O Judah, keep your solemn feasts! Perform your vows! For the wicked one will no longer pass through you. He is utterly cut off.

Romans 10:14-15
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Romans 10:13
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

"footstool" definitely puts it "under subjection"..
Psalm 99:5
Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

One thing is for sure, we are not at the bottom of the pile...
Psalm 110:1
The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
