LOL, I'm finally getting to the end of FFIX. I had a little time to play it in the last two days. . . (not very much time to do so, I've been keeping up with the latest news on this IMHO unjust war in Iraq)

I leveled up the characters a bit more, got some better armor for the one that kept getting knocked out in even random battles, and tried to get through Memoria again to the final battle.

So far, I'm past the halfway point I think (defeated all the Chaos Guardians in Memoria, but lost a random battle after the last one of those because I forgot to heal my characters afterward. . .you absolutely cannot survive a random battle with those Stilva monsters when 3 of your characters are dead and one has only 1000 HP left, LOL-so I have to do that over again :sigh: Is there any item that protects your characters from repeated "doom" and "death" attacks? >_< )

So I'm hoping to see the ending to FFIX tomorrow sometime, maybe. I heard it was good (*thanks a heap* to Jedi in Fellowship Court for that spoiler! >_< )

Today's episode of .hack//sign on cartoon network was a rerun, but, hopefully, the episode they are showing next week is new.

So far, Kenshin has had some edits due to violence, drunks, and language, but the edits didn't remove any entertainment value or take away from the plot so far. I'm glad that they called the drunks "bums" instead of changing "drunk" to "glutton" like in Tenchi OVAs and TV series. No time edits like in Tenchi either. www.animenewsnetwork.com has an edit list with the Kenshin edits. Some edits were pointless, but what has been left in more than makes up for a few small edits.

I found out that Netflix rents plenty of anime, but I'll wait until the anime I rented comes in the mail before recommending the service. I was suprised at some of the stuff that have, though. They actually have individual discs from multi-disc collections like Slayers(however, they also offer disc D of the Slayers collections, which I highly recommend not renting by itself if you do decided to use Netflix since it's just the DVD-ROM extras and no actual episodes are on it).

Speaking of anime for sale, the Barnes and Noble book superstore in Santee has a VERY limited collection (Excel Saga, NGE, Vampire Hunter D, and X: none of which I'm interested in :sigh: blah)

I hope I can afford one or two of the Miyazaki collection next month, but I am still thinking about the wisdom of revealing myself as an otaku. Maybe I think too much, but I am still a bit afraid of being judged and misjudged. That's happened to me once already with a friend (who is not very close to me anymore  ) and a few times online. . .so I'm admittedly overly cautious.

Hi Angelo. I haven't tried Xenosaga, but I heard some mixed opinions of Xenogears. Some of the stuff in it that is supposedly against Christanity is actually against the Catholic church, or so I heard. However, the mixed opinions I heard do make me wonder about the content of both games. I'm somewhat interested in both games because they are both RPGs and both have some cool elements, but I want to know more about the content before deciding play them.

I have been playing Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis for Game Boy Advance lately. It's not the hardest game ever, but the game is a joy to play. I like how you have to fufill certain goals to earn different classes.

Catholics are Christians; the Catholic Church is Christian.

/me puts my club owner hat on and picks up a megaphone

No debating in here, PLEASE. We've gone 69 pages without being closed, we've had a good time, and I don't want the club closed down for rules violations. So this is just a friendly reminder: take that debate outside before someone calls the mod police on it.

/me takes my owner hat off, puts down the megaphone, and walks into the club

I'm kind of interested in Xenogears and Xenosaga too, but the anti-Christian elements are there and they are not something I like. Cameo appearances by "Jesus," plots involving killing "God" for human freedom, and Scripture misuse are not things I like, and the incest relationship between the mother and son characters is just sick. I dislike XG/XS for pretty much the same reasons I dislike Eva-it tries to speak to "the issues," and instead only becomes sickening, pretentious religiobabble.

Sorry about that. I should have been more careful about my last post. Has anyone here played Lunar PSX? It's an RPG and it has anime in it. What is the content like in it? Do you recommend it?

I think that incest relationship sounds sick too. However, I do dislike how the video game sites don't give any detailed info about how bad or good the religious referances in the game are. I also heard that the god in Xenogears is actually a false god that was created by man. However, I would like to know more info about the actual content and what is rumor and what is fact becuase I have read some confusing information about the games. If you know something about the actual content of the games, would you please PM me some info? I don't want this to turn into a debate, so I think it would be better to talk about this subject in private messages instead of in the forum.

What anime and RPGs have you been playing lately?

i was reading the uni anime club list, possible viewing in this year: .hack//SIGN. :)

awww.... but the "pointless" bits may be important too. (just leave the whole thing in there!! would be the best...)

Yeah. I would rather it be unedited and in subtitles, but Kenshin is less edited than usual for Toonami and all of the important stuff(like humor, plot, sentances with "kill" or "die" in it, etc.) is still there. It's not edited for time like the Tenchi Muyo OVAs either. The dubbing in Kenshin is good too. It's not up there with Princess Mononoke, Princess Nine, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, or even Ah! My Goddess the movie, but it is a good dub.

Angelo's avatar is from Neon Genesis Evanglion. It has some messed up pseudo-Christian symbolism in it and I heard that some networks in Japan tried to take it off the air because of some of the content in it.

I think it's cool that the anime club is showing .hack//SIGN. I have seen 4 or 5 episodes of it on Cartoon Network and I think it's great so far. I have a question about the anime club. Is most of the stuff there import or domestic? Do they show a lot of subbed anime?

Can you give me some of the specifics on that? Let's just say that I may be back in the anti-Eva debate if you can give me a source and their reason.

Thanks -^.^-

GRRR >_<

I still haven't won FFIX.

I made it to the last battle: only thing was, I didn't have enough of the MP restoring items to keep Garnet/Dagger casting Curaga every round (an absolute necessity) so I lost. . .>_<

Anyway, I decided to leave the final stage at the teleport out point, and have the characters fight a few battles so I could get the items needed. So I finally work my way back to the place near the end, try the battle again, and the Deathbringer (the normally-wimp in the first of the 3 final battles) kills all my characters at once. Their levels are all multiples of 5-perfect targets for Level 5 Death, its *only* attack beyond really weak attacks. I have auto-life equipped on 3, but that only works once, and the next time. . . >_<

:sigh: Maybe today. . .hopefully I can get the characters to the end, again, with levels that are not susceptible to L5 Death.

I don't know any specifics. It was just something I read at a message board. It might just be a rumor.

Spirited Away got an academy award for best animated feature! It's the first anime to ever win that award in the US.

i don't know, but i guess they're imported since Aust doesn't hold a large circulation of anime. My bro said the one he watched last week was subtitled.

if only they showed Laputa in cinemas!!
they're gonna get blown away, totally.

Yes there is alot of religious...stuff... that does tend to come against Christianity. They use referrences to crosses and God, yet at the same time, attempt to change many of the Christian beliefs. However, I am already 20 hours into Xenosaga, and the only Christian referrence I have seen is the cross. I'm still debating on wether or not some things in the game are metaphoric to things in Christianity.

Anyway, here's what I say about it:

If you're a fan of Evangelion, you'll probably love Xenogears and Xenosaga, and the inverse is probably also true, that if you love XG/XS, you probably also like Eva.

Yet if you hate Eva, you will probably have the same distaste toward XG/XS, and the inverse of that assertion is also probably true.
