You have to take that up with our Heavenly Father. It is His Word
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Are you more righteous than our Father?
The problem is, Revelation is eschatological in nature. And dredging up old prophecies to have them fulfilled again adds to the book and sets you up for the curses that fall on any who do this.

What's heretical?
History realizes.
Futurism fantasizes.

Easy answer.
I thought only full preterism was considered heretical? I am preterist. but haven't quite taken the "leap of faith" to full preterism....yet..
Most of preterism is at least more consistent than the dozens of flavors of futurism...much like Baskin Robbins.

There are futurists that view Luke 21 as the destruction of Jerusalem in ad 70, but Matt 24 and Mark 13 still being future.
Confusion.............

What scripture says is that Damascus will be obliterated. Damascus still exists as a city. Though is is under attack today, and it looks terrible, it is still a city. We are discussing Isaiah 17:1 not Revelation.

History says it already happened. Here's a challenge for you. Jesus said “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Does your doctrine promote death and violence? If so it is false.

Check your history.

No stone left upon another was not because the Romans did that by themselves. It was the result of the Romans burning and tearing it down, yes. What most people do not know is that people came and pulled the stones out taking them from on top of each other hoping to find gold that had melted in the temple. Thus fulfilling prophecy. Yes the Romans sacked Jerusalem, and burned the temple down smashing it. But they did not destroy the entire city and they were not the ones who moved all the stones either. The focus of the prophecy was on the temple. People fled or were slaughtered by the Romans so yes, most of the city was in ruin but the prophecy is a fulfillment and God's judgement of the corrupt Pharisees and the fact he nullified the entire OT priest system at the cross.

God is not a random chaos generation machine.

"Oh yeh, in 4000 years time I am gonna nuke Damascus,
Coz I get my kicks like that"

The prophecy is done and dusted, and all God's judgments are consequential and
Purposeful.

The lunatics who whisper in the ears of Presidents about nuking cities "to fulfil biblical prophecy" should be straight-jacketed and fed bird seed and water, for a long long time.

We have discussed Damascus in other threads. We know that Damascus will be destroyed, but it is not clear how our Father will accomplish this. What are your thoughts?
17 A prophecy against Damascus:

“See, Damascus will no longer be a city
but will become a heap of ruins.

Jerusalem still stands today but yet judgement is still made against it in that same chapter....

https://biblehub.com/csb/isaiah/17.htm

Isaiah 17:
1 A pronouncement concerning Damascus:
Look, Damascus is no longer a city. It has become a ruined heap. 2 The cities of Aroer are abandoned; they will be places for flocks. They will lie down without fear. 3 The fortress disappears from Ephraim, and a kingdom from Damascus. The remnant of Aram will be like the splendor of the Israelites.
This is the declaration of the Lord of Armies

Judgment against Israel
4 On that day the splendor of Jacob will fade, and his healthy body will become emaciated.

7 On that day people will look to their Maker and will turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. 8 They will not look to the altars they made with their hands or to the Asherahs and shrines they made with their fingers.
9 On that day their strong cities will be like the abandoned woods and mountaintops that were abandoned because of the Israelites; there will be desolation. 10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and you have failed to remember the rock of your strength; therefore you will plant beautiful plants and set out cuttings from exotic vines.
11 On the day that you plant, you will help them to grow, and in the morning you will help your seed to sprout, but the harvest will vanish on the day of disease and incurable pain.

Be careful not to waste your time waiting for a non-event.

How, out of interest, would I "come against" a prophecy of God?
I mean, a non-believer might decry the second coming, but it is not going to change the prophecy is it?

It seems to me that merely predicting the end of any human thing apart from any context, would be an easy bet on eventuality. I could predict the end of the United States, and eventually I would be right. All human things come to an end.

The original prophecy was to the Israelites, because of what they had become. Damascus was sieged, and the population was removed and never heard from again. As a people they ceased to exist, forever. So a couple thousand years later some Arabs happen to live there, and they get wasted for the sake of a prophecy they never heard of, that wasn't written to them, simply as a matter of eventuality and the need to fulfill judgment against a bunch of inanimate buildings.

What I am saying is Damascus still exists as a city so your denial of the fact is a delusion fostered by the heretical preterist doctrine.

I agree with you Handmaid. I didn't read every reply here, but i think what Isaiah 17 is talking about didn't happen yet. And i question if this is the right time or place to even talk about it. Because i think it's close, too close to talk about. That deal about be silent before the Lord, be silent before the Day of the Lord.

Because that's what it is. Verse 4 uses the phrase "that day", And in that day.

"And in that day the glory of Jacob will be brought low,

"In that day man will look to his Maker,
and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel.

"In that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the wooded heights and the hilltops, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation.

"At evening time, behold, terror!
Before morning, they are no more!

I think it's about ready to let go as Paul's sudden destruction. I think we're way deeper into the Revelation, more than half way through chapter 13, and not too many people know it. The composite beast has opened it's mouth and continues to blaspheme God and His dwelling place and those who live in Heaven.

So it's a spooky thing to consider. And when people get scared, they shift into denial. The last two threads i wrote a note on were either locked up or deleted. And the 9/11 topic from the other day has vanished. I missed what was up with that one. But what i did see of it, saw that they missed that there is not only a comet, but also now a newly discovered asteroid that will both make their perihelion's on 9/11.

Happy Yom Teruah.

Peaceful Rosh Hashanah.

And i hope we don't feast on a banquet of trumpets.

The September 11 Comet,
Comet 21P/ Giacobini–Zinner:

"And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say,
Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

That word for "pale" horse, also means GREEN.

Comet Giacobini–Zinner (official designation: 21P/Giacobini–Zinner) is a periodic comet in the Solar System.
It was discovered by Michel Giacobini (from Nice, France), who observed the comet in the constellation of Aquarius on December 20, 1900. It was recovered two passages later by Ernst Zinner (from Bamberg, Germany) while observing variable stars near Beta Scuti on October 23, 1913.

During its apparitions, Giacobini–Zinner can reach about the 8th magnitude, but in 1946 it underwent a series of outbursts that made it as bright as 5th magnitude. It is

-> the parent body of the Giacobinids meteor shower (also known as the Draconids).

The comet currently has an Earth-MOID of 0.035 AU (5,200,000 km; 3,300,000 mi).[1]
Giacobini–Zinner was the target of the International Cometary Explorer spacecraft, which passed through its plasma tail on September 11, 1985.

And now a newly discovered asteroid. Two witnesses for 911.

Newly Discovered Football Field-Sized Asteroid to Fly By Earth on September 11.

A newly detected asteroid the size of a football field is expected to pass by the Earth on Tuesday, September 11 at around 4:05 UTC. The space rock, designated 2018 QU1, will miss our planet with a relative velocity of 12.5 km/s at a distance of about 10.9 lunar distances (LD), what corresponds to 4.18 million kilometers.

2018 QU1 is an Apollo-type asteroid discovered August 30 by the Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) at the Mauna Loa Observatory (MLO), Hawaii. It is an astronomical survey system for detection of dangerous asteroids a few weeks to days before their close approaches to Earth.

According to astronomers, 2018 QU1 has an absolute magnitude of 22.8 and a diameter of about 100 meters. This near-Earth object (NEO) has a semimajor axis of about 1.88 AU and it takes it approximately two and a half years to fully orbit the sun.

Previous close approach of 2018 QU1 to Earth occurred on January 4, 1931, when it passed at a distance of some 50 LD (19.2 million kilometers). No future fly-bys of this object to our planet are currently predicted by astronomers.

Some more catchy rapture music while we wait,
dig it man:

Old man Jonah sittin' in his chair got no teeth and got no hair
Got no daughter and got no son he's just waitin' 'till the rapture come
Waitin' 'till the rapture come

He never did marry and he never went far never bought a house or a big ole car
But he ain't no beggar and he sure ain't dumb he's just waitin' 'till the rapture come
Waitin' 'till the rapture come

And when the rapture come the Lord's gonna call his name
(When the rapture come) Jonah's gonna put down his cane
(When the rapture come) Heaven's gonna take him away
But until that day…

Old man Jonah's got an old brass horn had it since the day that he was reborn
But he ain't gonna blow for just anyone he's gonna wait 'till the rapture come
Waitin' 'till the rapture come

Preacher come a-walkin' down that country mile said 'hey Jonah, know it's been a while'
But Jonah keep his eyes on the settin' sun he's just waitin' 'till the rapture come
Waitin' 'till the rapture come
Waitin' 'till the rapture come

Let's just keep it simple...........

Zechariah 2:
11 And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. 12 And the Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.”
13 Be silent! all flesh, before Yahweh,
for He is roused from His habitation of holiness.

Zephaniah 1:
7 Be silent! before my Lord Yahweh
For near Day of Yahweh
For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice

and consecrated his guests.
8 And on the day of Yahweh's sacrifice

“I will punish the officials and the king’s sons
and all who array themselves in foreign attire.

Revelation 8:1
And when it opens the seventh Seal and became a silence in the heaven as half-hour.

Revelation 19:17 [Zephaniah 1:17/Ezekiel 39:19]
And I perceived one messenger standing in the sun, and he cries-out in great voice, saying to all the birds, the ones flying in mid-heaven, "hither! be ye being gathered into the Supper of the Great God.

18 That Ye may be eating fleshes of kings.....

What I object to, is those here who say things like; It all happened in the past', without a scintilla of evidence to prove that assertion.
Lets read the prophesies again and see that there was a time in the past that this occurred:
Amos 1:3-5 For crime after crime of Damascus, I will grant them no reprieve. I shall send fire on their fortresses.

Jeremiah 49:23-27 Of Damascus...... News comes of a disaster, confusion and anxiety reign, they try to escape, but all her soldiers die on that day......I shall make a fire within the walls of Damascus and it will devour the kings palaces.

Isaiah 17:1-14 Damascus will cease to be a city, forever desolate. Listen - it is the thunder of vast forces, at evening all is terror, before morning all is gone.
Such is the fate of our adversaries.

Here is my advice to those who want, for whatever reason, to say these things have happened: Keep your belief, if you must; but don't teach or promote it, as that may become a loss for you on the Day of Judgement.
1 Corinthians 3:13-15
