IS IT SIN TO BREAK THE 10 COMMANDMENTS? (Yep!)

Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

This is a verse missed by many and it says so much. I have heard many say that the Law was given by God to give us a guide to follow or that you are expected to follow it to be approved by God. This is just not the case. It was given to show us that we need him and not a set of rules.

Regarding the 10 commandments, I hold to the belief that you should love God and your neighbor and you will be more able to live a Godly life than a complicated set of rules. I am not saying that I am completely successful at it but that is where the mercy of God kicks in.

Hi brother S&S, nice to see you here and thanks for your thoughts. I believe the same that under the NEW COVENANT of LOVE hang all the law and the prophets (Matthew 22:36-40). We are not saved by them but God fuflills them in us by LOVE (Romans 13:8-10; Hebrews 8:10-12; Romans 3:31). You cannot have love if there is no law, because love fulfills it, does not abolish it.

Let's look at the scriptures...

............

There are two great commandments of LOVE to God and LOVE to mankind that Jesus talks about in *MATTHEW 22:26-40. These two great commandments of LOVE are not new commandments. They are quoted from DEUTERONOMY 6:5 and LEVITICUS 19:18 to sum up God's 10 commandments.

Besides being in the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures the Jewish lawyers already knew that LOVE to GOD and LOVE to MAN was only a summary of how to obey God's LAW as OBEDIENCE to God's 10 Commandments is an EXPRESSION of LOVE. The Jewish experts in the Mosaic laws understood this application in the OLD and NEW Testament scriptures.

For example, in the NEW TESTAMENT...

LUKE 10:25
[25], And, behold, a certain LAWYER stood up, and tested him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

The GREEK word used for LAWYER here is different to the way we would understand the use of the word today. The GREEK word used here is ἐκπειράζω ; ekpeirazō it means in this case an expert in the Mosaic laws.

So we have an expert in the Mosaic law standing up to try and ask Jesus a trick questions and test him, saying what must I do to inherit eternal life?

[26], He [JESUS] said unto him, What is written in the law? how read you?

Listen to the response of the expert in the Mosaic law...

[27], And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.

Sound familiar? Jesus then says...

[28], And he said unto him, You have answered right: this do, and you shall live.

Here is another accasion this time Jesus was answering...

MATTHEW 22:35-40
[35], Then one of them, who was a LAWYER, asked him a question, testing him, and saying,
[36], Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?
[37], Jesus said unto him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
[38], This is the first and great commandment.
[39], And the second is like unto it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[40], ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW and the prophets.

Notice the same answer given by the expert in the Mosaic laws but Jesus adds;
ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW and the prophets.

WHY? because these two great commandments of LOVE TO GOD and LOVE TO MAN SUMMARIZE our duty of LOVE as EXPRESSED in the OBEDIENCE of GOD'S LAW through faith. OBEDIENCE to GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS is HOW LOVE is EXPRESSED to GOD and to MAN.

.................

Now did you notice in the first set of scriptures above that [LUKE 10:25-28] what question was asked by the expert in the MOSAIC laws? He tried to test Jesus by asking the question;

* What shall I do to inherit eternal life? (Luke 10:25)

Jesus says that he gave the correct answer; LOVE GOD with all your heart (Deuteronomy 6:5) and LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORE as yourself (LEVITICUS 19:18)

Now notice how Jesus answers the very same questions asked by the Lawyer in Luke 10:25 by the rich young rule and how the very same question he answered earlier by saying to LOVE GOD and LOVE your neighbore and on these to HANG ALL THE LAW and the prophets...

MATTHEW 19:16-21
[16], And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

Same question asked by the Lawyer in Luke 10:25 where the answer was to LOVE GOD and your neighbore. How does Jesus answer the question?

[17], And he said unto him, Why do you call me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you will enter into life, keep the commandments.

Which commandment some might say? If we stopped here some would argue cannot be the ten commandments. Let's read on..

[18], He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, You shall do no murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,
[19], Honor your father and your mother: and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[20], The young man said unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
[21], Jesus said unto him, If you will be perfect, go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Did Jesus answer the same question correctly? Absolutely! WHY because OBEDIENCE to the the 10 Commandments are how LOVE is EXPRESSED to GOD and MAN. The first 4x commandments in * Exodus 20:3-11 are our duty of LOVE to GOD. The next 6x commandments are our duty of LOVE to our neighbore * Exodus 20:12-17.

LOVE TO GOD and LOVE TO MANKIND as an EXPRESSION of LOVE is SUMMED up in the 10 COMMANDMENTS and is why Jesus says "ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS [LOVE TO GOD AND LOVE TO MAN] HANG ALL THE LAW and the prophets.

PAUL is saying the same thing in ROMANS.

ROMANS 13:9-10, [9], For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, IT IS SUMMED UP IN THE SAYING, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

................

CONCLUSION the two great commandments of LOVE are EXPRESSED by OBEDIENCE to GOD'S 10 commandments which show our duty of LOVE to GOD (Exodus 20:3-11) and our neighbore (Exodus 20:12-17). LOVE sums up the 10 Commandments and LOVE is the fulfilling [doing or establishing them] * ROMANS 3:31

................

The practical application here can be seen in these examples.

LOVE GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART MIND AND SOUL (Deuteronomy 6:5)

* If you love God will you have other gods before him? (Exodus 20:3)
* If you love God will you make yourself idols and worship them? (Exodus 20:4-5)
* If you love God will you take his name in vain (Exodus 20:7)
* If you love God will you forget his Sabbath memorial of creation? (Exodus 20:8-11)

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORE AS YOURSELF (Leviticus 19:18)

* If you love your neighbore will you dishonor your parents? (Exodus 20:12)
* If you love your neighbore will you kill him? (Exodus 20:13)
* If you love your neighbore will you commit adultery with their spouse? (Exodus 20:14)
* If you love your neighbore will you steal from them? (Exodus 20:15)
* If you love your neighbore will you lie to them? (Exodus 20:16)
* If you love your neighbore will you covet or be jealous of them? (Exodus 20:17).

ROMANS 13:8-10, [8], Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. [9], For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

ROMANS 3:31 [31], Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

.................

CONCLUSION: IF you are breaking any of God's 10 Commandments that define our duty of LOVE to GOD or LOVE to MAN you are not LOVING therefore you stand "UNDER THE LAW" guilty before God because you are still in your sins (Romans 3:19).

I hope this helps brother. God's LAW of LOVE is not new it was written in the OLD COVENANT pointing to the NEW. If you are breaking any of God's 10 Commandments which are our duty of LOVE to GOD and MAN then you do not LOVE and are still "UNDER THE LAW" guilty before God of sin.

Those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN will not enter into God's KINGDOM (Hebrews 10:26-27).

Paul preached to the Jews in the synagogues on the Sabbath. But they tried to kill him several times for teaching against the Sabbath and Moses.

Paul never taught agianst the Sabbath and kept it with both JEWS and GENTILES.

Acts 13
14,
And when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
15, And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, You men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

42, And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. <Why wait till the next Sabbath?>
43, Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44, And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Acts 16
13,
And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a riverside, where prayer was accustomed to be made; and we sat down, and spoke unto the women who met there.

Acts 17
1,
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews:
2, And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Acts 18
4,
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5, And when Silas and Timothy were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the word, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

Sorry Dave, God's WORD disagres with you.

“Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;” (1 Timothy 1:9–10)

Good so you agree now that God's LAW is in the NEW COVENANT and it's role is to lead sinners to Christ? Hope you can understand what you have just posted. It goes against your teaching that God's 10 commandments are abolished.

Hope this helps.

The Ten Commandments were the Old Covenant.

They were part only part of the OLD COVENANT you ignore the fact that it was both the 10 Commandments and the Mosaic book of the covenant that made up the OLD COVENANT.

EXODUS 34 [28] And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the COVENANT, the ten commandments.

EXODUS 24 [7] And he took the BOOK OF THE COVENANT, and read in the hearing of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient.

The New Covenant replaced them. The New Covenant does not import the Sabbath. But it imports not killing, or stealing etc.

The OLD COVENANT was written on stone and in a book. The NEW COVENANT is written in the heart to LOVE (Hebrews 8:10-12; Romans 13:8-10; Matthew 22:36-40) God's LAW on stone brings us to the NEW COVENANT in the SPIRIT (Galatians 3:22-25; 2 Corinthians 3:3-11; Hebrews 8:10-12; Matthew 22:36-40; Romans 13:8-10; James 2:8-11). God's 10 commandments have the same role as they did in the OLD COVENANT and that is to give us a KNOWLEDGE of GOOD AND EVIL; SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20; James 2:8-12; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172) and to show us that we are all sinners in need of a Saviour so that we might be fogiven by faith and be born again to walk in God's Spirit of LOVE (Romans 2:5:13; Romans 3:9-20; Galatians 3:22-25)

Sorry Dave, God's WORD disagrees with your teachings that the 10 commandments are abolished.

Hope this helps.

You are not getting it. The 10 Commandments is a part of the Law of Moses.

No Jason, the 10 Commandments are part of the OLD COVENANT as is also the MOSAIC book of the Covenant.

Under the OLD COVENANT both had a different role and purpose. Let's look at the scriptures.

.............

1. GOD'S LAW (10 commandments)

Purpose;
reveals what sin and righteousness (Good and Evil) is and describes the penalty for sin (Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Romans 6:23). It was never a cure for sin. But it was the work of God which is forever and the foundation of the Old Covenant, the New Covenant and the Judgement to come. (Exodus 32:16; Exodus 31:18; 31:18; Exodus 20:1-22; Deuteronomy 10:5; Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Romans 6:23; Hebrews 7:19; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1 John 3:4, Acts 17:31; Ps 111:7-8; Revelation 12:17; 14:12; 22:14; 1 John 3:5-8; 1 John 2:3-4; Ecclesiastes 3:14)

.............

2. THE BOOK OF THE COVENANT
(Levitical, ceremonial, sacrificial)

Purpose;
was the prescriptive cure for sin with all the Levitical and ceremonial laws, burnt offerings for sin, annual feast days foretelling the plan of salvation which were connected to Feast days with New Moon sabbaths, food and drink offerings and other Holy days. These where all types pointing to Jesus and the plan of salvation and provided a cure for sin through animal sacrifice and food and drink offerings and yearly sin atonement's for God’s people. (Leviticus 1:1-13; Leviticus 23:1-44; Numbers 28:1-31; 29:1-40; Deuteronomy 24:10-11; Exodus 24:3; Deuteronomy 31:24-26; Colossians 2:16-16; Hebrews 10:1; Ephesians 2:14-15; Leviticus 4; 5; 6; Hebrews 4:14; 9;10; John 1:29; not exhaustive there are many more).

The Saturday Sabbath IS a ceremonial law and not a moral law.

Nope read EXODUS 20:8-11 God's 4th commandment is a memorial of creation. Ther eis nothing ceremonial about it. There were ceremonial Sabbath connected to annual festivals that could fall on any day of the week in Leviticus. These however were not God's 4th commandment.

A moral law is any law that you know to do instinctively in your heart in regards to doing good or in loving your neighbor.

Nope God's 10 commandments are all moral laws showing our duty of LOVE to GOD and MAN. * Exodus 20:1-17

A ceremonial law is any law that you observe some kind of ceremony. You would not know about the Sabbath without God telling you about it.

I suggest you read EXODUS 20:8-11 which is God's 4th commandment and tell us what ceremonies are written in their? You would not know about any of the 10 commandments without God's WORD telling you about it (Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4).

When you say that the Saturday Sabbath or a weekly Sabbath is necessary to keep or it is sin, you are creating a command in the New Testament that does not exist.

You may wish to take it up with PAUL (Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; Romans 3:31; Romans 13:8-10), JAMES (James 2:8-11) and JOHN (1 John 3:4) all of them disagree with you. So does pretty much Jesus and all the NEW Testament.

NEED MORE SCRIPTURE? Click me here.

You are going back to the Law of Moses by saying you have to keep the Saturday Sabbath because the 10 commandments refer to the Saturday Sabbath and not the new altered Sabbath version law that you are referring to. When you tell people they have to keep the 10, you are saying they have to keep the Saturday Sabbath (Which is no longer binding upon believers). No command is ever given to New Covenant believers in the New Testament to keep the Saturday Sabbath. This is where you fall into error, my friend. It's very serious.

Not at all. God's 10 commandments have the same role as they did in the OLD COVENANT and that is to give us a KNOWLEDGE of GOOD AND EVIL; SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20; James 2:8-12; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172) and to show us that we are all sinners in need of a Saviour so that we might be fogiven by faith and be born again to walk in God's Spirit of LOVE (Romans 2:5:13; Romans 3:9-20; Galatians 3:22-25)

................

Sorry Jason, God's WORD disagrees with your teachings that the 10 commandments are abolished. If there is no law there can be no love and not need of a Saviour. There is no such thing as the 9 commandments.

................

SIN is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4)
Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

Hope this helps.

Hello tutorman your a funny one :). Where in this thread have any adverts been made when only God's WORD has been posted? Or have you only posted this bacause you have no scripture to address the OP and the scrioptures provided? Did you have anything to share brother?

Oh I know the SDA tricks, many times SDA have done this. Your trick is to get people to say sure you should not break the commandments than you all say how about the fourth like Saturday is something special. Unlike you I do not revere Sola Scriptura but I will tell you that Christ summed up the ten into two. The ten were for the Jewish nation not for gentiles

And we've all broke them, and break them...

The law was to prove that there were none righteous, no no one, (except Jesus Christ), the one who did keep the commandments, and was and is righteous. The only one who truly is, and we are not, and the law proves that and testifies to that, cause that's it's real purpose, but leaves us with a problem... one has to be righteous to stand before or get close to God, and none of us are, but, BUT, Christ made it so that we could have his righteousness, even though we are unrighteous, and allowing us to have close relationship with God now...

Christ is/was the solution to all the problems involving sinful man, he did a switch-a-roo, him for us, and us for him, and God see's us as him now when we stand before him...

Isn't that awesome!

Anyway,

God Bless!

No motive brother. Only LOVE to help all who love God's WORD and have ears to hear and eyes to see. God's sheep hear his voice (the Word of God).

Okay, you keep telling yourself that.

Now I know you will likely disagree with what I have just said about Romans 7 because most modern Evangelical Christians do as they are convinced that Paul is talking about His current experience as a Christian, but with that interpretation, it causes great contradiction with Chapter 6 and Chapter 8.
Any other disagreements notwithstanding, I heartily agree that Romans 7 is not about Paul's experience as a Christian.

No Jason, the 10 Commandments are part of the OLD COVENANT as is also the MOSAIC book of the Covenant.

Under the OLD COVENANT both had a different role and purpose. Let's look at the scriptures.

.............

1. GOD'S LAW (10 commandments)

Purpose;
reveals what sin and righteousness (Good and Evil) is and describes the penalty for sin (Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Romans 6:23).

Purpose;
was the prescriptive cure for sin with all the Levitical and ceremonial laws, burnt offerings for sin, annual feast days foretelling the plan of salvation which were connected to Feast days with New Moon sabbaths, food and drink offerings and other Holy days.

Nope read EXODUS 20:8-11 God's 4th commandment is a memorial of creation. Ther eis nothing ceremonial about it. There were ceremonial Sabbath connected to annual festivals that could fall on any day of the week in Leviticus. These however were not God's 4th commandment.

Nope God's 10 commandments are all moral laws showing our duty of LOVE to GOD and MAN. * Exodus 20:1-17

I suggest you read EXODUS 20:8-11 which is God's 4th commandment and tell us what ceremonies are written in their? You would not know about any of the 10 commandments without God's WORD telling you about it (Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4).

Not at all. God's 10 commandments have the same role as they did in the OLD COVENANT and that is to give us a KNOWLEDGE of GOOD AND EVIL; SIN AND RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20; James 2:8-12; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172) and to show us that we are all sinners in need of a Saviour so that we might be fogiven by faith and be born again to walk in God's Spirit of LOVE (Romans 2:5:13; Romans 3:9-20; Galatians 3:22-25)

................

The Law has changed:

God's moral laws came into existence for man and would forever exist for him after the Fall of Adam and Eve (after they received the knowledge of good and evil).

These Moral Laws (like: “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” Do not covet,” “Do not commit adultery,” etc.) are repeated in the 613 laws within the Law of Moses and they still in effect (i.e. They have been carried over into the New Testament). However, the Old Testament Law of Moses as a whole or package deal is no more. Things like the commands on circumcision, animal sacrifices, the Saturday Sabbath, etc. are no longer binding under the New Covenant. This is because the written Law given to Israel is no longer in effect (as a whole). How so?

Here are a list of verses:

7 "But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious." (2 Corinthians 3:7-11).

"When God speaks of a "new" covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear." (Hebrews 8:13) (NLT).

"But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter." (Romans 7:6).

"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;" (Colossians 2:14).

20 "Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using; ) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."
(Colossians 2:20-23).

“By abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh the enmity [caused by] the Law with its decrees and ordinances [which He annulled]; that He from the two might create in Himself one new man [one new quality of humanity out of the two], so making peace.” (Ephesians 2:15) (AMPC).

"The old [former] rule [commandment; regulation] is now set aside [nullified; abolished], because it was weak and useless [ineffective]." (Hebrews 7:18) (EXB).

9 “Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.” (Hebrews 9:9-10).

8 “Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.” (Hebrews 10:8-9).

“And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.” (Acts of the Apostles 15:1).

“But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” (Acts of the Apostles 15:5).

“Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment” (Acts of the Apostles 15:24).

28 "For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well." (Acts of the Apostles 15:28-29).

The Old Covenant says this about circumcision:
"And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant." (Genesis 17:14).

Yet, the New Covenant says this about circumcision:
"Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing." (Galatians 5:2).

The Old Covenant says this about the Sabbath:
32 "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses." (Numbers 15:32-36).

Yet, the New Covenant says this about the Sabbath:
"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:" (Colossians 2:16).

So it appears things have changed.
This makes sense because Hebrews 7:12 says the Law has changed.

“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
(John 1:17).

Not really true.

The command to love your neighbor originates from Moses Law, ie ...

Leviticus.19:17-18 = 17 ‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

In effect, you are stating that salvation is by keeping the Law.

Christians will only lose their salvation if they lose faith in Jesus Christ or renounce their faith in Christ or depart from the faith of Christ or '- faith'. Salvation comes by faith alone. At LUKE.23:43, an about-to-die but repentant robber who was crucified next to Jesus Christ was even saved from hell by faith in Christ.
....... Nevertheless, not loving your neighbor or not keeping the Law, either fully or partially(for Gentile Christians) may jeopardize one's faith in Christ, eg ...

1CORINTHIANS.5: = 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

To love your neighbor is also a command given to us by Jesus Christ and His followers. Jesus said if you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). Paul said if any man loves not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed (1 Corinthians 16:22). Paul said if any man speaks contrary to the words of Jesus Christ and the doctrine according to godliness, they are proud and they know nothing (See 1 Timothy 6:3-4). James says God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble (See James 4:6).

Paul said, "But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;"
(1 Timothy 1:8).

"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." (Romans 3:31).

"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid." (Romans 6:15).

"But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter." (Romans 7:6).

3 "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Romans 8:3-4).

What is the righteousness of the law that might be fulfilled in us?

The righteous aspect or part of the Old Law that is fulfilled in us is the Moral Law (i.e. it is to love our neighbor).

8 "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
(Romans 13:8-10).

"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." (Romans 8:13).

Living after the flesh is living in sin (which leads to death).
If we mortify (put to death) the deeds of the body (sin), we shall live.

So Paul is saying that if we live one way, we are going to die spiritually.
But if we live another way, which is after the Spirit walking in righteousness and putting to death the sinful life, we are going to spiritually live forever.

Jesus said,
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." (Matthew 5:17).

Jesus did not come to abrogate all forms of Law in regards to our continuing to remaining right with God (after we are saved by His grace).
For Jesus said Himself, if you will enter into life, keep the commandments (Matthew 19:17).

Jesus came to fulfill the Law in it's true intended purpose by us loving our neighbor. We are told to love our enemies and turn the other cheek if we are smitten. This is totally new (Which is a part of the New Covenant).

The author of Hebrews said,
"For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law." (Hebrews 7:12).

Then you are presented with a contradiction in Scripture because the Bible is clear that if a believer does not love their neighbor, then they are not saved.

Let's go over what I have written before and break it down a little more.

Love your neighbor (Mark 12:31).
Consequence if disobeyed:
(a) "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." (1 John 4:8).
If one does not know God, they do not have eternal life. How so?

"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3).

John 17:3 essentially says that knowing the Father, the only true God (the Trinity - which would include the Holy Ghost), and Jesus Christ is eternal life.

1 John 5:12 says he that has the Son has life, and he that does not have the Son, does not have life.

In other words, a person needs to know Jesus and or have Jesus in their life in order to have eternal life. We know Jesus is God; And 1 John 4:8 says he that does not love, does not know God. A person needs to know God in order to have eternal life.

(b) "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." (Matthew 25:41-46)

In the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37): We learn that to help the poor is the equivalent of loving your neighbor. In the Parable of the Sheep and Goats (Matthew 25:41-46): We learn those who did not help the poor in this life are going to be cast into everlasting fire. Jesus says that if we do not help the least of these, i.e. the poor by giving them food, drink, or emotional support, etc. we are in essence not doing unto Jesus. Hence, why they are cast into everlasting fire for not helping the poor as a part of their faith in Christ.

So here are two testimonies in Scripture that say that a believer is not saved if they do not love their neighbor. You can choose to ignore it, or change it, but it does not undo this truth within His Word.

The righteousness of the law, is the law used and applied int the right way or with the right perspective or point or whatever... That in former times was hidden from us (OT) but is now revealed to us as it is fully expressed in Christ (NT) (NC)... Showing what the law and the OC were really about... And then his righteousness, given to, or bestowed upon us, but that's another story...

God Bless!

The imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ works not only in believing in Jesus, but in walking in the light as He is in the light. Meaning we have to keep God the Father's commands as Jesus kept God the Father's commands in order for the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse us from all sin.

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
(1 John 1:7).

The Light = God the Father.
Walk = Keep God's commandments.
As He is in the Light = As Christ is in God the Father.

For one does not have true faith if they are not actually being faithful.
For the devil's also believe and tremble;
And faith without works is dead.
