What would would you think if you read an article on the Internet, allegedly by a close advisor to the pope, which claimed the Catholic Church taught the following:

The pope can break Catholic Tradition whenever he wants...

He can redefine core doctrines as he pleases, since God guides him.

The pope is above the Bible, and the Church's traditions on how to interpret it.

He can rule the Church openly "as an individual," unbound by any text or precedent.

Wow! That is quite a claim. It does raise the question of what would happen to the Church, if some Pope in the future did change doctrine in a way that was against what a majority of Bishops approved? I recall reading that at the time of Vatican II, some Moderates/Progressives (whichever term you prefer) wanted a statement on the Jews that was even more of a change than what Vatican II approved. Supposedly one Cardinal was quoted as saying that allowing an even more drastic change on the Church's view of Jews would have split the Church in two.
