Shouldn't the first 3 verses of Genesis 2 really be at the end of Genesis 1?

Shouldn't the first 3 verses of Genesis 2 really be at the end of Genesis 1?

I have seen and heard from several sources that Genesis chapters 1 and 2 are written by different authors. Now I don't know the legitimacy of this claim, however it does make sense when you compare the wording of the chapters, and even beyond just these 2 chapters it looks like a lot of them are written by different people. It's almost like God Himself wrote chapter one, Adam wrote chapter two, his son wrote chapter 3, etc...

Regardless, I am no Hebrew scholar, and do not know how to interpret how each part of the OT differs from other parts language-wise and how they are using their alphabet in their words, whether it's Aramaic or not, and even their writing styles. All I know how to do is pick up a lexicon and lookup the translations.

So after reading chapters one and two in Genesis, I noticed that it would seem that the first 3 verses of chapter 2 would just fit better in chapter one...

Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Though the only reason I could see why not change this is if the author of chapter 2 wrote the first 3 verses in chapter 2 and if they weren't just thrown in there for no reason (which, this is the bible, I realize. There have probably been plenty of people before me trying to decode this very thing also).

.
The first 5 books of the Old Testament were written by MOSES.

Yes but might he have copied down the Genesis accounts? After all the enslaved Hebrews already knew of the Genesis accounts right? Either all that was strictly word of mouth or it was recorded somewhere...

In the original manuscripts there were no chapters and verses.
They were added by translators.

I realize that but each chapter was written differently which MIGHT indicate Moses copied them down...

That is an assumption.

It says that the Bible was written by holy men as GOD inspired them to write.

Therefore we either accept what the Bible says about how it was written or we don't, if we don't then the Bible becomes a useless piece of paper because, it is not reliable as it is only the work of men.

Perhaps... but do you want to see a bigger miss on this regard? Go read the last few verses of Hebrews 5 and the first few of Hebrews 6. It is as if the speaker got cut off while taking a breath to finish a thought when they separated there. :)

WE have a more sure word of prophecy.
Holy men of old spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21

Accepted tradition says Moses wrote Genesis, but as he was not around he must have had God telling him what to write.
And if it was somebody other than Moses who wrote it, they still had to write what God told them to as nobody was around for the first 5 days of creation.

Just an aside... there are no chapters in the Hebrew and it isn't likely Moses wrote Genesis. More likely somebody like Shem (go look on a timeline whose lives his overlap) or a combination of writers over time. Tradition says Moses... but heck, even in Deuteronomy, it isn't like he recorded his own death. :) Personally... I think he wrote the commandments and judgements.. the history came from elsewhere.

Blessings.

Sure, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the people that copied the bibles you read weren't inspired by God when they wrote those copies.. But maybe the original was inspired.

You're right, it generally is just a traditional belief...

That's what I'm saying, it's almost like God wrote chapter 1, Adam wrote chapter 2, his son wrote chapter 3, so on and so forth until the first 5 books were completely copied down. And again, how did the enslaved Hebrews in Exodus even know who the God of Abraham was? Word of mouth? A written copy of God's word?

Do you honestly believe, that God would go through all the trouble to make sure the Authors of His words to mankind would be as He wanted them to be, and then would allow other men centuries later screw it all up, God wouldn't make sure that the men Translating His word would be as inspired as the original people writing it were?....Really?

Then I guess if your right the book ain't worth reading because we don't have any idea as to how messed up it is, with all of mans tinkering with it.

Well you see the problem I'm having and the reason for starting this thread is the fact that in chapter 2 man is formed from the dust after day 7 when clearly man was made on day 6 in chapter 1.

Chapter 1 is a broader view of everything which happened during the 6 days of Creation.

Chapter 2 is dealing with a more detailed view of things which were not mentioned in the Chapter 1.

If what you think your seeing is correct, then God Created Adam on His day of rest.

That would definitely be a discrepancy, but couldn't it possibly be, your just not understanding what was written?

The Book does not have Discrepancies, or Contradictions, otherwise it is not reliable, anything you believe you have found, is your misunderstanding, because you are fallible.

I did a side-by-side comparison of both accounts of Creation in THIS BLOGPOST.

There are some terrible translations, I have to say, that a discerning person does recognise as being of the devil and not of God.. but I'm just saying. It's not a thing to argue about.

This, however:
The Book does not have Discrepancies, or Contradictions, otherwise it is not reliable, anything you believe you have found, is your misunderstanding, because you are fallible.
.. I actually have found quite a good case that is yet unresolved to my knowledge. You should check it out over here: https://www.christianforums.com/thr...ctions-withers-to-none.8017954/#post-71521281

Yes. A man made the chapters but his own biases or lack of scriptural understanding affected how he created the chapters.

Oh. According to the guy above me I am solely at fault for not interpreting the bible correctly.

It's obvious because I am asking such a question as an unscholared man in an online forum requesting aid to understand from his brethren around the world in love and peace.
