The firmament, in that case, is not a line or a narrow zone, but has huge space. Why should sun, moon, stars have the same distance to the earth?

It would appear that the firmament is a huge space... and that's about it.

So how about we just call it "space" and be done with it?

They don't, but look at the picture. The firmament is a dome, and the heavenly bodies are stuck to the inside surface. The thickness of the firmament is irrelevant, since the lights are stuck to the inside surface, which is all the same distance from the earth.

You'll also note in the picture that the dome is roughly the same size as the earth. It extends only as far as the seas around the earth. The seas of earth do not extend as far as the moon, much less, the sun or the stars.

Genesis 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Genesis 1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Genesis 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Genesis 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Genesis 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Genesis 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

Question, who was there to quote God?

Why did God need to speak these things into creation if there wasn't anyone there to hear him?

Adam came later and wrote down what he was told.

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
Revelation 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

Creator's choice.

God ≠ Barbara Eden.

What would you call it if you were 4000 years ago?

The old interpretation (the image) is not accurate enough.

C'mon, concede. you know you can not win on this obvious one.

LOL! Your unsubstantiated speculation is an example of how humans wrote the scripture.

Who wrote yours; and does academia agree?

I suspect it doesn't.

And even though I think academia is supervised today by the same entity that wrote such Satanic verses as THE PRESERVATION OF FAVOURED RACES IN THE STRUGGLE FOR LIFE; MY STRUGGLE; and the URANTIA BOOK," this entity consistently shoots himself in the foot.

In other words, I'm giving science credit for not believing your Urantia nonsense.

Who wrote mine? Celestial beings under the authority of the Son of God.

"The preservation of favored races in the struggle for life" ? Written by Satan? Are you referring to the writings of the people of Israel, the ethno-state who see themselves as "Gods chosen people" and you a "Gentile dog"? The discredited, false prophets who elevated themselves high above their Semitic cousins in the region only to be brought low?

This link list all the areas where science at the time of the UB had not yet validated the claims of the UB.....but now it does because science is catching up with the UB.

Perhaps you should find a dictionary and look up the meaning of "firmament". You could include a study of its etymology. Please let us know what you find. I'll wait.....

Firmament is firm. What else excites you?

My room has lights in the ceiling. When your firmament is firm, that's how it is.

The old interpretation (the image) is not accurate enough.

The image accurately portrays the common cosmology of ancient near eastern cultures, including that of the OT. Obviously, it does not accurately portray reality.

Which came first? the word or the dictionary?
In the beginning, was the word....

lawyers later came up with the dictionary .

God made everything simple....

men came up with many devices.
