1. I die tomorrow and my wife sells all of my guns for what I told her they cost.
2. I die tomorrow and my wife finds out how much ammo I really have hidden away.
3. I don't die tomorrow and my wife asks me both questions point blank..., 'cause I have to tell the truth.

Our fear is that you become senile and unaware of it.
I had to give away my father in laws guns to
a neighbor with a safe.

Guns are without a doubt a much better investment than a wife. "for me".
I treat mine very well and rub them down with the best oil and just sit staring at them in fascination of that beauty :D

And when they get loud you can put on earmuffs and earplugs and they don't get offended or mad at you.

A long time ago, my wife asked how many guns I own;

I haven't answered her yet...;)
It's that matter of when I start looking at the ceiling and counting with my fingers, add the other hand, pull off the boots and then run out of toes, then tell her to hold up her fingers and let me finish counting..., then run out of fingers and toes and start calling the kids to come in and a help daddy..., now I am into the grandkids.

It's like the other day..., But honey, it is a Marlin. A 1984 Marlin lever action. It's hardly been shot at all. See, no wear on the lever. And look, it has the JM on the barrel. You can't get much better than this. And I only paid half price..., well, almost half price. I mean off of a new one. But look at the book. Look how much this guy wanted for his. If nothing else this is an investment for the future.

First, we shouldn't be concerned with material goods as a believer (Especially after we die). "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." (Matthew 6:31-32).

Besides, what good would all that ammo do you if she sells it (after you die)?

Second, you seem concerned that your wife will find out how much ammo you have. You should not keep this kind of thing from your wife. If it is something good in your life, then obviously you would have no trouble telling her about it. But seeing it is a bad thing for you to store up so much ammo, and you are worried about her finding out, this should let you know that having such an amount of ammo is not good for you.

Three, the New Testament teaches Pacifism. See this thread here. So you should put away your guns (unless you hunt for your food so as to save money and or as a part of a company). In your case: I think you have guns because you think they are some kind of protection for you. However, even one angel is far more effective at protecting you than any gun. So pray for protection instead of loading up on guns and ammo.

Guns and Christianity does not mix well together anymore than alcohol and Christianity does not mix well together. We are to follow Christ's example. He never harmed anyone or stocked up on weapons.

My brother in Christ, did you really take this to be real? I should have said it was printed on a sign I saw the other day and thought it was funny and I told my wife and she laughed as well. (In fact, she just recently invested $400.00 in her own .38 concealed carry because the one she was carrying had too strong a spring to rack the slide.) We are both licensed by the state, have insurance, and we even take our guns to church. The people around us know what to expect if someone should ever bust into the doors and start shooting. In addition, when I buy a new gun the first thing the wife and I do is go over the history of it, why it was of interest to me, what I expect to do with it, and how much it cost and how that compares with market value. So I apologize if you think I was lying.

I consider guns were a wonderful technical art. Many of the older ones have history that can never be repeated. For example, I recently gave my son a S&W .38 revolver that my grandfather used as a special deputy when called to the Texas City Dike explosion disaster. I also have a .30-30 rifle that was made in 1947 by Stevens and is not a lever action. It was made from a .30 caliber machine gun barrel that was intended to be used in WWII. Not having any other use the Stevens company made hunting rifles for the GI's returning home at it originally cost $36.00 mail order.

I see guns as being no different than when a machinist takes a raw block of steel and turns it into a beautiful piece of something that goes somewhere to make something work. I also find it challenging and fun to purchase an old gun and work with it by repair or reloading specifically tuned bullets to shoot better than it did when I purchased it. (With my wife's blessing)

My brother in Christ, now that you know why I have guns and why I reload and that my wife really knows every gun and every round of ammunition I own, what worries me most is that anybody thinks it is their place to tell us that we do not NEED guns or ammo or that we should squelch the desire to protect our family and our Country and/or the innocent. Also, that I do not know what scripture says about such matters. What I do know is that the essence, or spirit if you will, of the written Word of God is such that it does not matter what goes into the gun, it is what comes out of it that matters. What the gun is is not important. What is important is what you do with it. I carry one or even two of mine every day just about everywhere it is legal to do so. I have done so in the military, as a police officer, and even as an EMT and there is one thing I can assure you; The desire to harm any innocent person is not in my personality. I pray that I will enter the grave having never put somebody else there first.

My statement was intended to be a sort of campfire humor. Around the campfire we tell stories that may or may not be 100% true 100% of the time. Some of us like the dark of the night and a crackling fire to calm the nerves after a wonderful day of hunting and telling a joke or story or two. Some sit there staring into the leaping flames and drink tea, some coffee, some even drink a beer or a glass of wine, but none drink to excess and that is O.K.,. Some own one gun, some own over 20 guns, some over 30 (that is me) but that does not say that even one of them are intended to be ever used against any innocent person nor do we challenge the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Ever. Owning a gun or a thousand guns means absolutely nothing in relation to being a Christian.

I know guns are a part of your life. But it is not the way of Christ. You are trusting in a weapon and not the Lord for your ultimate protection. Please show me verses in the New Testament where self defense is clearly taught. The short answer that I will provide for you is that you will not find one verse that supports such an idea. The Bible says for us to follow Christ's example. Now, just using that logic alone, shall we take up arms to fight? Did Christ hit others in retaliation or carry weapons? He certainly could have, but He simple did not. Now, I understand Jesus will return and destroy the nations, but this is not the example we are told to follow. We are told to follow the example of Christ we were given by His previous Earthly example (as testified within the Holy Scriptures). If you do not agree with this, you are simply doing your own thing because you feel it is right. I would suggest praying about it more. The Bible says we are to pick up our cross and deny ourselves. We are to turn the other cheek, and do violence to no man, etc.

Nothing can happen to you if God is protecting you and you are walking in His good ways.
A gun is merely showing that you trust in a weapon and not God for your protection.
It's as simple as that.

Side Note:

I also do not think you were lying. Not revealing the truth to your wife is not a lie. Only when you twist words that are not true so as to cover up the truth is when it is a lie. My point was that if you feel you had to hide the hoarding of ammo from your wife, it is telling you that something is not right (morally speaking).

You are taking this too seriously. It was a joke and I think everybody else got it. Your assumption that I am relying on guns before Christ is wrong but you have your own issues to work out it seems. I am fine with the Lord and my prayers are sufficient. May God bless you and yours.

For ultimate protection, I trust in God.

I trust Him to provide steady aim and fast reflexes when necessary.

And that's NOT a joke.

I am merely telling you that self defense with weapons is not the New Testament way for a believer in Jesus. That is all I am trying to say. You can check out the verses for yourself if you like and let God’s Word talk to your heart about it (See again the link to thread in my previous post to you).

May God bless you and your family, as well.
