It still doesn't mean I think the UMC should split into multiple denominations because it wouldn't be for core theological reasons, but in general, I see multiple denominations as a benefit overall, and a benefit for witnessing for Jesus. If one denomination cannot reach a person, then perhaps another denomination might be more successful. God created us to all be unique so we're all not going to like or be attracted to the same things.

But we're still already a part of Christ's true church...the body of all who follow him and accept him as Lord and Savior.
I am in a very liberal conference. I'm wondering what would happen to my church if the United Methodists split.

There are channels for discipline when it comes to clergy teaching heresy or misbehaving. Including removing them from their post and defrocking them, if necessary.

If the people on top think homosexuality is a wonderful thing, what are you going to do?

has that channel of discipline ever been abused? In the past, hasn't it been used to persecute others?

I havent created any doctrine like the catholics and others have. There is no such thing as W2Lism.

Sure you have, you advocate your own doctrines and practices on this forum all the time. For example, your anti-denominationalism is a form of W2Lism that you advocate.

No, the point of the thread is to determine if it is the Lord's will that we have one denomination on earth today, or does he like it the way it is, with many denominations?
Gotcha I would say it wasn’t his will.. but the church faced a lot of persecution after it flourished briefly in the early AD years. Then from then on can argue whether or not the Catholic Church was that church that was persecuted bought back to life but either way once that church got questionable... and as we know the “pay to go to heavon” stuff started coming up had the Protestant reformation or whatever and yeah now all these denominations. But to say it was Gods will would be to say it was Gods wjll for the first churches to be persecuted... and I don’t believe it was his will

What makes you think, if this happened, this would be so ? (that they would be powerful)

Some people think it's a great sin that we have a lot of denominations, rather than just one.
If there was just one denomination, the leader, or leaders, of that denomination would be extremely powerful people. Would that be a good thing?

The same way Noah fit all the animals on his ark.

Yes, but *God* himself told Noah to build the ark for all of those animals. God himself hasn't informed me that I need to go to a nearby local church building and put the entire Christian population of the world into it and proclaim them all to now be United Methodists in the name of unity.

So again, which denomination are we to all flock to in the name of unity? Which doctrines need to be dropped or "unwatered" from the "losing" denominations in order to do it, and how are we going to enforce that everyone stays unified under that one organizational structure?

But keep in mind also that there were many splits prior to the Protestant Reformation.

Wouldn't you say popes and bishops have tremendous influence?
