I have to say, part of me wants to just forget Israel altogether and just go Egypt or Jordan. I have a real problem with the State of Israel in general. I can't stand how these clueless evangelicals POUR money into Israel and think that the literal government of Israel will usher in the second coming or some kind of apocalypse event. These Jews in Israel by and large roll their eyes at Christians. I have heard so many things about how they are super unfriendly and don't like Christians, that they pinch their noses at us coming there purely for shekels. I've heard a lot of bad things and watched some videos and not liked their attitudes at all. There is something about the pilgrimage to Israel also that is ruined with all the evangelicals there. It almost turns it into a theme park of sorts. I hate the way the Palestinians are treated and continue to get marginalized more and more. You don't see the anti-Christian Jewish stuff on TV. You have to talk to people who've been there or see it online. I'm just not crazy about the culture there.

When we went to Greece, I LOVED the Greek culture that is there now, love the mythological past, adore the Orthodoxy that has grown and thrived there for millenia. Greece had it all.

As a history teacher and fan in general, Israel has been a place I've wanted to go to for decades. I have wanted to see the Holy Sepulcher, Bethany, Cana, Nativity, you name it! But I'm so turned off by the Jewish culture there and the politics and question the safety, not sure if I'm going to go.

We're actually looking hard at Egypt or Jordan. I wouldn't want to explore Christian Egypt much, because it is primarily in the Sinai, but in Jordan there is actually some great stuff like Mt. Nebo, Bethany, and other spots! Egypt fascinates me. I can't imagine seeing Luxor, Aswan, Cairo, Pyramids, Karnak, Hatshepsut's temple, all that stuff!

just FYI, if you do swing by Sinai, the Burning Bush is still there.

What have the Scots done wrong ? We are not English and the same applies to the Welsh folk
I love Scotland - lived there for two years as a child, and hope to get back for a visit with my wife and kids next year.

Kate and I have been watching this show, "Shetland" on Netflix. It's EXCELLENT! Of course, we put on the subtitles because the English they're speaking is so hard to understand, it's out of this world!!! Love it, but dang, for this California boy, that's tough! Imagine how Kate is with that Scottish lingo! ^_^ So here we are watching this show with subtitles. I have to say that England's English, Australia's, I'm good to go with that. Even Irish. Something about Scottish. Wowzers!

The weather on that show is SOOOOO DREARY!!!! oh man! Constant grey skies, wet all the time, freezing cold. You folks are beyond tough. I wouldn't last a year in Scotland. I'd have a nervous breakdown! ^_^^_^:sorry:

Kate can't fathom how people cope with that dreariness and the weather. I keep telling her, "they're TOUGH folks!" Every other scene is set in a pub! ^_^

I thought travel advisories were issued about Sinai region as dangerous terrorist zones?

St Catherine's has a signed note from Mohammed not to mess with the monastery or her pilgrims

I love that show, too! Waiting for a new season to come out. I know what you mean about the heavy Scots accent, but I don't like using subtitles because they distract me from the video!

I look at the dreary, grey skies (and even on sunny days, they're all wearing sweaters or jackets!) and this Texas girl thinks, nope - I'd never be able to live there! As much as I hate our summers, I do need lots of sunshine, and plenty of warm weather!

I don't know what it is in me, the teacher maybe, but I love subtitles!? LOL! Passion of the Christ and the film about Hitler---Downfall, oh man, I can multi-task when I watch these movies, no problem! Narcos on Netflix was easy because I speak fluent Spanish and could handle it. Scotland looks hardcore. I agree. If you come here to CA, people are wearing shorts in December still, even January sometimes. It's nuts. Super warm.

Greece and Mount Athos, Scotland, and Ireland. Israel perhaps, but it reminds me of Disney World for Protestants, and I'm not convinced of the safety -- shame, really, for there should be no other destination more desirable.

Blank check ensures I can go anywhere multiple times, right?

We didn't go to Mt. Athos on our trip, but we went to Meteora. Stunning! Two monasteries were visited, men's and women's. Lovely. The Greece trip was a true adventure.

We're just not sure where we're going next. I would LOVE to go to the Holy Land, but I'm turned off by the Jewish attitudes toward us, the unrest, the theme parkish nature of it with evangelicals (like you said), and I'm not a fan of the idea of the State of Israel in general.

We really want to go to Egypt, but there has been some unrest there in recent years and you never know. Jordan is now taking in tons of refugees, and that's a turnoff for me. Not sure. We're looking at everything.

To a monastery. Not sure where, but I guess if money wasn't a factor I'd just travel all over and go to various different ones.

Welcome to TAW Maria - nice to see you here :)

Talked with my travel agent tonight for about an hour. We've now "narrowed" it down to either Jordan or Egypt, Yucatan Peninsula, or the Balkans LOL!!!

my vote (not that I have one) would be the Balkans. Romania would be awesome to visit.
