• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I would, But I really like the guy, He means well and I am kinda soft hearted, [don't tell anyone though]

My second cousin and his wife were like that. She adored her doctor who, unfortunately, never did diagnose her with fibromyalgia, but treated her for some really rare and "incurable" diseases from which she always seemed to make "miraculous" recoveries. She suffered in intense pain for years, but refused to consider betraying her beloved doctor by getting a second opinion. However, she did die in her 60's, leaving my cousin as a young widower.

If you are in such agony as you say you are, it certainly would behoove you to get a second opinion.

For me, these are helpful:

a) Moist washcloth in the microwave for 10 seconds and place moist heat on sore areas, or use a special moist heating pad

b) Steamy shower

c) Bath

d) Swimming laps, floating, stretching out in the water

e) Frozen water in the form of frozen gel pack

f) Whirlpool

Stretching

a) With a therapy band

b) after sitting, walking or standing

c) with a partner or instructor

d) with a chair at home

Massage

a) Roll around on a foam roller at home

b) Roll on tennis balls on the trigger points

c) Massage therapy

Distraction

a) Keep busy and distract your mind

b) Redirect nerve impulses with TENS unit

c) Scents-try surrounding yourself with lovely smells that make you feel good, such as via candles, fresh flowers, essential oils, etc

d) Music-hearing or playing music to soothe/distract

Joy

a) go to mass

b) pray

c) praise god

d) serve others in ministry work

ps-personally, I well remember being told I was just depressed, lol!!

And to just give up bc there was no cure at all.

nope, no longer going to accept the opinion of one person

scotty

have you been doing any gentle and doctor approved cardio work?

I found that working up a sweat loosens up the body and reduces pain

Not to mention lifting moods bc you just feel so much better when you do some kind of sweating and moving around

I like to dance around to music personally. I like to play some cool and funky dance tunes from the 70's and shake my goove thang....but in private, ha ha !!

Lol, I need to do some cardio but I haven't been lately. I will be starting as I have to go through the barn and move a bunch of 10ft 2x10 boards and stuff and it is hot out.

after you get a little bit hot and sweaty, try doing some real easy stretches that feel real good for you, and not to the point of pain....

then walk around a little bit...set a small goal such as walking around a piece of equipment in the barn and taking a few deep breaths as you walk

I am just racked with pain lately, Does stress make Fibro worse? I can't hardly move and I just plain hurt.
Yes. Physical, dietary, emotional, spiritual, nutritional, toxins (exposure to), temperature, mental,
all
can frequently make anything worse, or even be a main cause.
=====================================

We went thru dozens of clinics, hospitals, doctors, and so on for several years before finding help......
the help came FIRST from regular people in a support group who knew what to test for, and how to cure it, and what to tell the doctor....
after that, as we told the doctor(s) what to test for and what to do, we found they agreed ! (but they would not, or did not, even tell us anything that helped until AFTER we told them ! )

If someone has not the right doctor, keep looking. There is definitely cures and helps available, once they 'know' what to test for and what to do.

Nothing the Lord can't heal and never a demon he cannot cast out.
Search "Mark Hemans" on youtube and reach out to him

Do you have fibromyalgia yourself? If so, have you been completely healed of it? If not, do you know anyone who has? I have not met anyone who has yet. Paul had his "thorn in the flesh" which the Lord did not heal and I see my fibromaylgia in that light. I am grateful to be able to function normally one day at a time.

Even in our sleep--our brains do not go to sleep like normal people's brains do--ours remain lit up even at our deepest sleep levels.

sleep wacky lately
cold, humid weather tough on me so hopefully spring comes soon

is it any better living in Nevada?
keep thinking if lived out west would feel better

started D3 every other day but not noticed any change

I have found a simple method that helps me sleep. I bought a thick duvet that I would normally say is too hot. I wrap myself up well in it and make sure no cold air can get in. I do wake up sweating because its so warm but I sleep better and have no aches and pains. If I get cold when I'm asleep I get really bad aches and pains in my muscles and points. If just one bit gets cold that will have pain

Cold when I'm awake doesnt seem to have the same affect on me as cold when I'm asleep so this method pretty much deals with all of the aches and pains for me. Try it and let me know as I'd be interested to see if it works for anyone else as well.

I also seem to have such symptoms. But my doctor told me that unless I also have IBS and migraine, I don't have it. If I do have it, then it is difficult to diagnose because it is based on symptoms rather than any tests and not a useful diagnosis, except light. There is no other treatment than exercise, so the diagnosis is not helpful. Then I asked her about the referral to a specialist such as a rheumatologist, and she said that they did not specifically study it. As for pain relief, I don't know if muscle massage is desirable. But I am willing to try. However, I will consult a doctor first. If you can, a home massage machine may be helpful.

yes, when working paid for massotherapy and It helped me get through work week
the massotherapist knew how to help for fibromyalgia
the massages hurt but helped in long run

You need another doctor. Fibromyalgia is unrelated to IBS and migraines. I don't have either, but I definitely have fibro. There are diagnostic tests for fibro (pain points, in particular).
