I'm Rick and am turning to the bible as I'm a drunk. I hate it. I love life. I love the mountains, dog walking and lakes. I love nature and the outdoors. I hate drinking and everything that goes with it.
In the worst times, my worst homes have become like a dusty, horrible place. A prayer and a bit of bible study have always left me feeling elated and cleansed. A few verses on Sunday, read, and a prayer, and I've always felt better. Like those rivers and mountains and spring sunshine were there, in my hopelessness. Even though my house was a pit I felt hope where before there was none.
I would not say I am a Chistian, but I appreciate fully the light and cleansiness that I feel when practising. I would appreciate any advice from those who have travelled a similar path.
