And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.... - Jude 1:14

At least some of the Book of Enoch is legitimate because Jude quoted out of the book.

1. The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed.
2. And he took up his parable and said--Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is for to come.
3. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them: The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling,
4. And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai, And appear from His camp And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of heavens.
5. And all shall be smitten with fear And the Watchers shall quake, And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth.
6. And the high mountains shall be shaken, And the high hills shall be made low, And shall melt like wax before the flame
7. And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder, And all that is upon the earth shall perish, And there shall be a judgement upon all men.
8. But with the righteous He will make peace And will protect the elect, And mercy shall be upon them. And they shall all belong to God, And they shall be prospered, And they shall all be blessed. And He will help them all,And light shall appear unto them,And He will make peace with them.
9 And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones To execute judgement upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly: And to convict all flesh. Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. - The Book of Enoch Chapter 1

Notice the wording ten thousands....

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.... - Jude 1:14

And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them. - Deuteronomy 33:1-2

I am wondering if this teaching did not come from the following line...

Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchizedek. - Hebrews 5:10

Chazalic literature—specifically Targum Jonathan, Targum Yerushalmi, and the Babylonian Talmud—presents the name Melchizedek as a nickname title for Shem, the son of Noah. It could be that Shem brought the book of Enoch with him and taught out of it after the flood. If this is the case Moses's Father in Law, Jethro, may have had a copy of the book of Enoch with him because Moses nearly quotes him in Deuteronomy 33.

The order of Melchizedek may have come down through the line of Enoch himself and was preserved. Characteristics of this order are foremost righteousness. In which, Christ Jesus, being after this order, taught in all things righteousness.

Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment: - Exodus 23:2

I tell you! If you are of this order you will speak all things righteousness and will not go along with any multitude to do evil.

Shem has a lineage; Melchizedek does not

Chazalic literature—specifically Targum Jonathan, Targum Yerushalmi, and the Babylonian Talmud—presents the name Melchizedek as a nickname title for Shem, the son of Noah.

So, in all likelyhood, Melchizedek was actually Shem.

Can't be Shem. Shem's genealogy is the bible. Melchizedek doesn't have one. No beginning and no ending. That can only refer to the pre-incarnate Christ.

without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God—he remains a priest for all time. Hebrews 7:3

What does Melchisedek MEAN? Something like 'King of Righteousness'?

All we know is what was posted early on - because Jude quotes Enoch - some of Enoch is true.

But Enoch is not like regular canonical books - with hundreds of Greek or Hebrew manuscripts in evidence of it - much extant is Ethiopian in origin; in fact the Tewahedo Ethiopian Orthodox church has Enoch in their canon -- and they also have SIX extra NEW TESTAMENT books, some of which awaiting translation into English even now.

Enoch is a mystery figure - that passage about "no lineage" is weird.

Some say Enoch, along with Elijah, will be the TWO WITNESSES in Revelation (those two never DIED - but were taken up living) - for in Revelation, the two witnesses are slain - this satisfies those that harp on Hebrews 9:27 that every man must die ONCE -- but of course there may be a whole slew of believers TAKEN UP at rapture/second coming who never die even once.

"We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed".

I used to have translations of Enoch by R H Charles and by Laurence; don't have them anymore.
The book of Enoch is largely an EXPANSION of a small passage in Genesis Six about fallen angels/sons of God and Daughters of Men episode. Highly disputed what it all means, really...

So this was most likely the commands the Pharisees used and Jesus spoke against.

Doing a Google search for Chazalic literature brought me here.
Melchizedek - Wikipedia

Your statement about Shem's nickname looks like it was taken directly from that page.

Mount Sinai was a holy mountain even in Enoch's day - Strange rock inscriptions may go back to Enoch's day before the flood.

There are several non-canonical works that are quoted/referenced in the Bible but not included in the Bible.

For example, Paul wrote of "Jannes and Jambres opposing Moses" -- you would not know who they were other than from a non-canonical work which reveals them as court-magicians of Pharaoh, you know, the guys who MATCHED Moses and Aaron's miracles UP TO A POINT, they were never NAMED in the canonical Old Testament.

I really don't know, Doug, why Enoch is not regarded as canonical (by all Christendom other than that Tewahedo Ethiopian Orthodox Church) and those guys have NEW TESTAMENT BOOKS not contained in Protestant, RCC or Orthodox Bibles -- all 3 groups have the same 27 books in NT.
