Some people believe, but have no faith. The just live from faith; the law is not from faith.

Now it is clear that no one is justified in the sight of God by the law, because “the one who is righteous will live from faith.” But the law is not from faith, but “the one who does these things will live in them.” Galatians 3:11-12

I just have to say....

roll it back into Hebrew since Hebrews was most certainly written in Hebrew, and so forth.

Sorry I just caught this statement.

All new testament books are in the Koine Greek. That was the main language of the time due to the previous conquests of Alexander and later his 4 generals particularly the Seleucid and Ptolemy Egypt held territories, which adhered to Greek ways.

That's not something I want to tout and march around saying though. All I wanted is for the person to show me in scripture WHERE they can find evidence for their system of belief on this matter. They didn't. Or more likely they couldn't. So the next best step for people like that is to insult you in some way and then leave.

It's really quite sad IMHO. The words here still ring true even today Hosea 4:6

Hello all,

This thread is for friendly discussion only. So please be nice here.

The challenge I am putting up here is for anyone to show even one scripture that says God's 4th Commandment of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11) which was spoken and written by God himself to his people, has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

Can anyone please show me where in all the bible does is say (SOLA SCRIPTURA; Scripture only please)...

1. That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?

2. That Jesus is a Sabbath?

3. The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?

4. Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?

5. Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?

6. That says that Jesus ever kept the first day (Sunday)?

7. That tells us to keep the first day in honour of the resurrection of Christ?

8. Where the first day is ever given any sacred name?

9. That affirms that any of the apostles ever kept the first day as the Sabbath?

10. From any apostolic writings that authorizes Sunday observance as the Sabbath of God?

11. Where we are told not to work on the first day of the week?

12. That says the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

13. That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

14. Where the apostles ever taught any convert to keep the first day of the week as a Sabbath?

15. Where the first day was ever appointed to be kept as the Lord's Day?

16. Where the first day of the week is ever called the Lord's Day?

17. That says that the first day of the week was ever sanctified and hallowed as a day of rest?

18. That says that the Father or the Son (Jesus) rested on the first day of the week?

19. That says that Jesus, Paul or any other of the apostles taught anyone to observe the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

20. That calls the seventh day the “Jewish Sabbath” or one text that calls Sunday the “Christian Sabbath”?

21. Telling man to keep the first day of the week holy or to worship or rest on the first day of the week?

22. Authorizing anyone to set aside God's Sabbath and observe any other day?

23. Showing any of the apostles keeping the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

24. Authorizing someone to set aside the fourth Commandment and observe any other day of the week?

25. Where any apostle taught us to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

26. Declaring that the seventh day is no longer the Eternal Sabbath day?

27. Where Sunday is now appointed to be kept as the New Testament Sabbath or holy day?

...................

Something to think about here because we are all accountable to God come judgment day where we will all be judged by the Word of God (John 12:47-48).

God's Word makes it very clear that if we follow the teachings of men over the Word of God we are not following God...

MATTHEW 15:3-9 [3],
[3], But he answered and said unto them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
[4], For God commanded, saying, Honor your father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death.
[5], But you say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift devoted to God, whatsoever you might have received from me;
[6], And honors not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have you made the commandment of God void by your tradition.
[7], You hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
[8], These people draw near unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
[9], But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

If we are KNOWINGLY breaking ANY of God's commandments we are not worshipping God.

Look forward to your thoughts...

.

The Law was not abolished but was fulfilled and re-interpreted by Jesus Himself, who is the Lord of the Sabbath. Let me explain in more detail.

God rested when His work was done, and Jesus rested when His work was done. The ancient Jews never much wanted that rest (which is why it had to be commanded), but it’s available to us today in the Spirit. The Sabbath clearly isn’t a day of the week anymore. We enter into the Sabbath rest when we stop laboring for our acceptance from God, and that only happens when we accept by faith that Jesus’ sacrifice was for each of us. His work is done, and He invites us to join Him. Hebrews 4:9-10 tell us: “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His.”

Colossians 2:16-17 should eliminate any doubt about the nature of the Sabbath: “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”

”One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. “ (Romans 14:5-9)

In Matthew 5, Jesus was clear that He came to fulfill the Law and prophets. The most important purpose of the Law and prophets was to point to Jesus as the Messiah, Savior, and Son of God. Now He was here in the flesh, with all authority (Matthew 28). The "Lord of the Sabbath" is an expression describing Jesus which appears in all three Synoptic Gospels, Matthew 12:1-8, Mark 2:23-28 and Luke 6:1-5. These sections each relate an encounter between Jesus, his Apostles and the Pharisees. In all three instances Jesus is referring to Himself as the “Lord of the Sabbath” or, as Mark records it, “The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:28). In these verses, Jesus is proclaiming that He is the One who exercises authority even over the rules and regulations that govern the Sabbath day.

As such, Jesus was proclaiming to the world, especially to the legalistic Pharisees, that He was greater than the Law and above the laws of the Mosaic Covenant because, as God in flesh, He is the Author of those laws. Unable to keep the Law, however, the Pharisees had instituted a complex and confusing system of Sabbath laws of their own that was oppressive and legalistic. They had set up strict laws regarding how to observe the Sabbath, which included 39 categories of forbidden activities. In essence, these religious leaders had made themselves lords of the Sabbath, thus making themselves lords over the people.

As Creator, Christ was the original Lord of the Sabbath (John 1:3; Hebrews 1:10, Colossians 1:15-19). He had the authority to overrule the Pharisees’ traditions and regulations because He had created the Sabbath— and the Creator is always greater than the creation. Furthermore, Jesus claimed the authority to correctly interpret the meaning of the Sabbath and all the laws pertaining to it. Because Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, He is free to do on it and with it whatever He pleases.

As Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus had the right, power, and authority to dispense it in any way He pleased, even to give to the early Church after Pentecost the right to re-institute it as the Lord’s Day, the day to celebrate the Resurrection, a day of worship. Since the Lord of the Sabbath had come, He who is the only true “Sabbath rest” made the old law of the Sabbath no longer needed or binding. When He said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27), Jesus was attesting to the fact that, just as the Sabbath day was originally instituted to give man rest from his labors, so did He come to provide us rest from laboring to achieve our own salvation by our works. Because of His sacrifice on the Cross, we can now forever cease laboring to attain God’s favor and rest in His mercy and grace. So there is a very real sense that from that nothing-happening-on-earth Sabbath Saturday after Good Friday, all of the future became one eternal Sabbath for those with faith in Christ.

If someone is going to jump into a conversation, then it might be prudent to see the very beginning of the conversations start.

You missed vital information.

This is what I previously said:

So, I am curious. Why did you think that I would say otherwise?

Did you mean to post to someone else?

I meant exactly what I said. The first part was in reference to what the Law of God is - specifically that there is no distinction between the "Law of Moses," and the Law of the Most High God. It was from God, not Moses, that the Law came.

I was also commenting on your assertion that the New Testament clearly establishes the "old law" is abolished - which is categorically against what the Redeemer Himself said. None of the Law is abolished. Show one place where the Most High God, or the Word of God ever said we could disobey any one commandment He set up.

Which brings me to my final point - beating the usual arguments against proponents of the Law. That is, I answered the question of, "if we are to follow the Law, what about sacrifices?"

God already told us once He doesn't want vain oblations; sacrificing an animal when there is Christ is vain. It misses the point of sacrifice in these ages.

None of the Law has been made void.

This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth: To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten. To the clean all things are clean, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is clean, but both their mind and conscience are defiled. Titus 1:15

Interesting, because I see one verse from the Most High God - what He told Moses to tell the Hebrews, and in the other verse I see a human that seems to contradict the first verse.

The problem is that the human in the latter case does not have the authority to rewrite what the Most High God has set up. John told us to test every spirit; anyone who contradicts the Word of God, or the Most High God is a liar.

Hi all, I was suprised coming back and there was already 5 pages of comments.

I have not read all the comments yet but nice to see some active friendly discussion going on.

I see no one has provided any scriptures yet to answer any questions from the OP here.

I see lot's of side issues going on but for the sake of keeping on topic to the OP, I am just reposting this here...

I have to go again but will pop in when I can to respond to some of the posts here. Nice to see the discussion going. Something to think about indeed.

God's blessing to all

Colossians 2:16 King James Version (KJV)
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

If you take the interpretation the most obvious and literal way with no steps ahead then this verse tell that following the sabbath is irrelevant for Christian life. And he is speaking to gentiles not jews.

Also:
13 My brothers and sisters, God chose you to be free. But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful selves. Instead, serve each other with love. 14 The whole law is made complete in this one command: “Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself.”15 If you continue hurting each other and tearing each other apart, be careful, or you will completely destroy each other.

'The law is made complete in this one command' so if you love your neighbor as yourself you are keeping the law.

??

Read this, and you cannot say keeping the sabbath is a commandment for christians:

The Meeting at Jerusalem
15 Then some men came to Antioch from Judea and began teaching the non-Jewish believers: “You cannot be saved if you are not circumcised as Moses taught us.” 2 Paul and Barnabas were against this teaching and argued with these men about it. So the group decided to send Paul, Barnabas, and some others to Jerusalem to talk more about this with the apostles and elders.

3 The church helped them get ready to leave on their trip. The men went through the countries of Phoenicia and Samaria, where they told all about how the non-Jewish people had turned to the true God. This made all the believers very happy. 4 When the men arrived in Jerusalem, the apostles, the elders, and the whole church welcomed them. Paul, Barnabas, and the others told about all that God had done with them.5 Some of the believers in Jerusalem had belonged to the Pharisees. They stood up and said, “The non-Jewish believers must be circumcised. We must tell them to obey the Law of Moses!”

6 Then the apostles and the elders gathered to study this problem. 7 After a long debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “My brothers, I am sure you remember what happened in the early days. God chose me from among you to tell the Good News to those who are not Jewish. It was from me that they heard the Good News and believed. 8 God knows everyone, even their thoughts, and he accepted these non-Jewish people. He showed this to us by giving them the Holy Spirit the same as he did to us. 9 To God, those people are not different from us. When they believed, God made their hearts pure. 10 So now, why are you putting a heavy burden around the necks of the non-Jewish followers of Jesus? Are you trying to make God angry? We and our fathers were not able to carry that burden. 11 No, we believe that we and these people will be saved the same way—by the grace of the Lord Jesus.”

12 Then the whole group became quiet. They listened while Paul and Barnabas told about all the miraculous signs and wonders that God had done through them among the non-Jewish people. 13 When they finished speaking, James said, “My brothers, listen to me. 14 Simon Peter has told us how God showed his love for the non-Jewish people. For the first time, God accepted them and made them his people. 15 The words of the prophets agree with this too:

16 ‘I will return after this.
I will build David’s house again.
It has fallen down.
I will build again the parts of his house that have been pulled down.
I will make his house new.
17 Then the rest of the world will look for the Lord God—
all those of other nations who are my people too.
The Lord said this.
And he is the one who does all these things.’

18 ‘All this has been known from the beginning of time.’

19 “So I think we should not make things hard for those who have turned to God from among the non-Jewish people. 20 Instead, we should send a letter telling them only the things they should not do:

Don’t eat food that has been given to idols. This makes the food unclean.

Don’t be involved in sexual sin.

Don’t eat meat from animals that have been strangled or any meat that still has the blood in it.

21 They should not do any of these things, because there are still men in every city who teach the Law of Moses. The words of Moses have been read in the synagogue every Sabbath day for many years.”

The Letter to the Non-Jewish Believers
22 The apostles, the elders, and the whole church wanted to send some men with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch. The group decided to choose some of their own men. They chose Judas (also called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were respected by the believers. 23 The group sent the letter with these men. The letter said:

From the apostles and elders, your brothers,

To all the non-Jewish brothers in the city of Antioch and in the countries of Syria and Cilicia.

Dear Brothers:

24 We have heard that some men have come to you from our group. What they said troubled and upset you. But we did not tell them to do this. 25 We have all agreed to choose some men and send them to you. They will be with our dear friends, Barnabas and Paul. 26 Barnabas and Paul have given their lives to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 So we have sent Judas and Silas with them. They will tell you the same things. 28 We agree with the Holy Spirit that you should have no more burdens, except for these necessary things:

29 Don’t eat food that has been given to idols.

Don’t eat meat from animals that have been strangled or any meat that still has the blood in it.

Don’t be involved in sexual sin.

If you stay away from these, you will do well.

We say goodbye now.

30 So Paul, Barnabas, Judas, and Silas left Jerusalem and went to Antioch. There they gathered the group of believers together and gave them the letter. 31 When the believers read it, they were happy. The letter comforted them. 32 Judas and Silas, who were also prophets, said many things to encourage the believers and make them stronger in their faith. 33 After Judas and Silas stayed there for a while, they left. They received a blessing of peace from the believers. Then they went back to those who had sent them. 34

35 But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch. They and many others taught the believers and told other people the Good News about the Lord.

What. God made clean or irrelevant those things after Christ.

Where did the Most High God Himself ever say that His laws on (un)cleanliness were changed, and that we have the freedom to break those laws previously set up because of any reason?
