I've found that I am in a rut when it comes to food..
Granola in the morning
TV dinner in the afternoon
Granola in the evening.

Anyone else doing better?

I work a night shift job, there's a microwave and they give staff free bread so I start my week by making a bunch of soup in my slow cooker and freeze day portions, so I have that most nights.

Before work I'll usually have some tinned fish mixed with those precooked rice/veg packets you microwave. Breakfast I'll have some kind of muesli.

Weekends I'll usually get takeout or pizza. I eat a lot of instant noodles too.

Overall I'm kind of simple, when I do cook before I eat, it's a stir fry, or spagbol. I don't like cooking that takes more than 20 minutes of active involvement.

I found out that cooking meat in the microwave cuts a lot of time in food preparation. Chicken breasts come out perfect. I cook it 2-3 minutes at a time until done and rarely takes more than 12 minutes. Quinoa takes 15 minutes. Boiling meat til it’s soft takes more time

Belgian Waffles

I had a serious craving for Belgian waffles and chicken. The problem was I had 2 waffle makers but not a Belgian one. Because of that, I didn't want to spend a lot of money in buying one but I still wanted a good one. I truly believe by God's timing I was able to buy a Belgian waffle maker with removable plates for $20 and some change on ebay that was normally over $100. Although after I bought it I started having thoughts of being Charlie Brown getting a bag of rocks when he was trick or treating lol! I was trying to have faith but it wasn't easy. I started thinking this wasn't going to end well. Well to my surprise everything turned out fine and I ended up with a brand new Belgian waffle maker exactly like I wanted that was turning out waffles in less than 2.5 minutes. I tell you I was floored! I've been enjoying Belgian waffles ever since!

Just got back from camping. Camping food is the best! Supper was a T-Bone steak, sour cream and chive mashed potatoes, and fried cucumber slices.

Still trying to even out my eating and snacking habits since I quit smoking in February. Gained about 20lbs due to eating everything in sight. Cravings have leveled off now so need to start focusing on diet.

My father gained a lot of weight when he quit dipping tobacco.

I have gotten on kick for making my own trail mixes. I don't like a lot of salt. I buy plain nuts on the baking goods isle, and I add in raisins, dried cranberries, and sometimes a few chocolate chips, sugar free chocolate covered peanuts, or a few chocolate covered raisins or cranberries.

I've looked up low calorie snacks, and it is things like fresh veggies and fruits.

So, a number of years ago I was told by my Doctor to lay off Fast Food. Back then I was a bit of a Fast Food Junkie: Maccers in the morning, Burger King in the evening, Wendy's in the afternoon with a smattering of chinese throughout the week. So I'm wondering, how often do you resort to Fast Food throughout the week?

There have been times as an exhausted single mom working full time, errands, laundry mat, church, and everything the kids were involved in, I would hit up the drive throughs multiple times a week.

AFter a while I realized that it was much less expensive to have easy to prepare meals from home, even if it meant carrying it with us. It was also less stressful because there was less driving in and out of food places, waiting in line, getting the kids to order, dealing with mistakes in our orders, etc. I found sandwiches, hot pockets, cereal bars, cheese and crackers, and fruit were easy meals to have on the go. I also try to keep chips in the car a lot of times.

I also developed the habit of having a snack with me for the drive home or immediately when I walked into the door of my home. It helped to control my hunger and urges to grab burgers.

Most of the time now, I limit us to eating out one time a week, and sometimes not even that much depending on what my budget looks like. Like right now, I've not worked hardly at all this summer, but now I am and i have a little money. It is taking everything with in me not to rush to Little Caesars or a burger joint.

I know a woman who used to be a dancer when she was a teenager and in her early 20's. She ate Burger King most days and would get two large cheese burgers (double?)... and had that several days through out the week. When she was still dancing, it wasn't a problem. She quit dancing by her mid-20's, and the weight started piling on because she still ate the same way. She hasn't been able to get it off without medication, and it always comes right back.

For me it was a cholesteral issue, as well as a cost issue, in having to give up Fast food. While not as bad, pre-prepared meals have been my mainstay for years, especially when the baking element in my oven stopped working. As a supermom you really deserve a treat now and then for all your hard work:)
