Catholic bishops rebuke Trump’s asylum changes, suggest ‘canonical penalties’ - Religion News Service

The Bishops are becoming to me like the Democratic Party. They no longer represent my values or beliefs.

Those perfumed princes never worked a day in their lives and pay no taxes. Open borders are a recipe for anarchy and disorder.

Orderly and legal immigration with limits are what makes sense.
They suggest canonical penalties for broadly non-doctrinal matters. Meanwhile, "Catholic" Democrat politicians can advocate abortion all they want and it's no big deal.

Disclaimer- I accept the bishop's authority on doctrinal matters. I can do no other. But this isn't doctrine. It's politics. And, somewhat, economics.

I'm not buying what they're selling.

This whole discussion is ridiculous. This policy is exactly what Bush and Obama did for decades, there are just more people involved now. Half the pictures that are on the news are staged. A good % of the kids aren't even attached to the adults that cross the border. They're decoys or have been kidnapped. The law is the law. If the loud, cranky democrats want change, just cooperate with republicans and change the law. These people are purposely going between and around official border crossings, which makes them illegal immigrants, NOT seeking any asylum. Stop blaming Trump for enforcing existing laws.

As a longtime liberal and Catholic in good standing, I am well aware that the liberal position is often not the church’s Position. And as a Catholic, I accept the Church position and try to understand and accept it as my own.
I’m always entertained when the conservative position is opposed by the church. It seems to me that conservatives aren’t as used to having to accept something that doesn’t jibe with their conservative sensibilities. Because more often than not, they attack the church for not accepting the teaching of Sean Hannity.

Ah Michael Voris' group. Banned from teaching at World Youth day and speaking in Catholic dioceses...not a very honest non Biased source for Catholic news.
I wasn’t looking for “non-biased.” My goal was to show the other side of the story, since the liberal side has been presented over and over here.

Ok if you were not looking a for non-biased source or one that is accepted as correctly presenting Catholic teaching.

For a Catholic source i'll just post the Bishops statement in total and some links to Catholic teaching.

A Statement from Daniel Cardinal DiNardo

A Statement from Daniel Cardinal DiNardo

June 13, 2018
Fort Lauderdale, FL—"At its core, asylum is an instrument to preserve the right to life. The Attorney General's recent decision elicits deep concern because it potentially strips asylum from many women who lack adequate protection. These vulnerable women will now face return to the extreme dangers of domestic violence in their home country. This decision negates decades of precedents that have provided protection to women fleeing domestic violence. Unless overturned, the decision will erode the capacity of asylum to save lives, particularly in cases that involve asylum seekers who are persecuted by private actors. We urge courts and policy makers to respect and enhance, not erode, the potential of our asylum system to preserve and protect the right to life.

Additionally, I join Bishop Joe Vásquez, Chairman of USCCB's Committee on Migration, in condemning the continued use of family separation at the U.S./Mexico border as an implementation of the Administration's zero tolerance policy. Our government has the discretion in our laws to ensure that young children are not separated from their parents and exposed to irreparable harm and trauma. Families are the foundational element of our society and they must be able to stay together. While protecting our borders is important, we can and must do better as a government, and as a society, to find other ways to ensure that safety. Separating babies from their mothers is not the answer and is immoral."

All true, at least for some of those kids.
The law is the law. If the loud, cranky democrats want change, just cooperate with republicans and change the law. These people are purposely going between and around official border crossings, which makes them illegal immigrants, NOT seeking any asylum.
Cooperation in Washington DC is impossible. Revolution is the order of the day, not cooperation, not fixing an out of date law. Not when there are political points to be made.
Stop blaming Trump for enforcing existing laws.
Trump.has.to.be.blamed. Just.because. Revolution. Impeachment. Attack. Attack. Attack. Hate. Hate. Hate.

We need a sane updating of immigration policy but I don't think we will get it. Because there are no sane people in Washington DC, in either party.

It's still no fun being an illegal alien:

I personally hold multiple administrations responsible. But this could end in a heartbeat. It does not take congress. Congress should do it too. The Bishops opposed Obama when he did a version of this, that is partly why it was modified in 2012. The Bishops pushed against it from 2008-2012. It was not until the Dreamers Act that the Bishops supported more of what Obama was doing. But they had multiple disagreements with him over his immigration actions.

I am not blaming Trump alone...and neither are the Bishops. Their stance has been fairly consistent for decades in keeping with Church teaching.

Every verb, every noun, every syllable the above post is a lie.

It's is gaslighting of the of the most outrageous kind because every verb, every noun and every syllable can be disproven by easily available objective source.

Dear reader I no longer have any hope of convincing AS of this but I beg you to spend 3 minutes of internet research on the above subjects.

Because every word of the above post is a lie.
