Do you think a lot of preachers "promise" false things?
My dad, who took us (family) to church when I was a kid, was a total hypocrite, adulterer and an emotionally abusive man. The churches he mostly took us to was churches "teach a twisted form of Christianity that teaches obedience, giving and faith as a way to get things from God." They also used that to dangle carrots for salvation. God has a (YUGE) plan for your life and similar things. I didn't know any better so bought into it when I was 6 or 7. And, since I had no foundation really, it did not last. These people are people like Joel Osteen (Mr. Psychology) and Joyce Meyer (Ms. Psychology) and others that preach "prosperity Gospel", "The Word of Faith" Movement, or the "Seed Faith" Movement. Of course, in the churches I was forced to go to, they also preached God was a God of judgement eager to go about judging and if you didn't "obey" he would surely judge you. Question our B.S.? You ain't a Christian!!!
Today, I think Osteen, Meyer and the rest of the bunch that flies around in private planes are basically full of excrement. They are the false prophets of today. There are also the power preachers (they sprinkle this power scripture or that power scripture to rile up the crowd) who I have never liked and were suspicious of. Power preachers are like Jimmy Swaggart, Rod Parsely and so forth. I'm just saying the power preachers preach the "God has a YUGE plan for your life" thing to get butts to stay in the seats. I've actually read other preachers that don't believe that way at all and criticize them for getting lots of false conversions (promising big things to get people to get saved). Some may be right, some may just be ignorant of what they are doing. Now, the seed preachers, I literally have no use for whatsoever.

I became Catholic. But, after the priest sex abuse scandal and the Vatican being okay with churches going bankrupt rather than pay those kids they raped and making them whole, it has made me question it. I just don't think God would say, "Yeah, to avoid paying these kids you ruined, just go bankrupt." That just doesn't seem right. And, of course, there were rampant cover-ups for decades up to the pope before the current one doing it. Yeah, he did tell others to keep their trap shut. Ratzinger is his name. I knew there was something wrong with him, but couldn't put my finger on it. Yep, my gut was totally right on this guy.
Anyway, finally realizing all this the last few months has made me wonder what I was taught is utter B.S. and what wasn't.
