Do you think a lot of preachers "promise" false things?

My dad, who took us (family) to church when I was a kid, was a total hypocrite, adulterer and an emotionally abusive man. The churches he mostly took us to was churches "teach a twisted form of Christianity that teaches obedience, giving and faith as a way to get things from God." They also used that to dangle carrots for salvation. God has a (YUGE) plan for your life and similar things. I didn't know any better so bought into it when I was 6 or 7. And, since I had no foundation really, it did not last. These people are people like Joel Osteen (Mr. Psychology) and Joyce Meyer (Ms. Psychology) and others that preach "prosperity Gospel", "The Word of Faith" Movement, or the "Seed Faith" Movement. Of course, in the churches I was forced to go to, they also preached God was a God of judgement eager to go about judging and if you didn't "obey" he would surely judge you. Question our B.S.? You ain't a Christian!!!

Today, I think Osteen, Meyer and the rest of the bunch that flies around in private planes are basically full of excrement. They are the false prophets of today. There are also the power preachers (they sprinkle this power scripture or that power scripture to rile up the crowd) who I have never liked and were suspicious of. Power preachers are like Jimmy Swaggart, Rod Parsely and so forth. I'm just saying the power preachers preach the "God has a YUGE plan for your life" thing to get butts to stay in the seats. I've actually read other preachers that don't believe that way at all and criticize them for getting lots of false conversions (promising big things to get people to get saved). Some may be right, some may just be ignorant of what they are doing. Now, the seed preachers, I literally have no use for whatsoever.

Read this about Osteen and Meyer:
The False Promise Of The Prosperity Gospel: Why I Called Out Joel Osteen And Joyce Meyer | HuffPost

I became Catholic. But, after the priest sex abuse scandal and the Vatican being okay with churches going bankrupt rather than pay those kids they raped and making them whole, it has made me question it. I just don't think God would say, "Yeah, to avoid paying these kids you ruined, just go bankrupt." That just doesn't seem right. And, of course, there were rampant cover-ups for decades up to the pope before the current one doing it. Yeah, he did tell others to keep their trap shut. Ratzinger is his name. I knew there was something wrong with him, but couldn't put my finger on it. Yep, my gut was totally right on this guy.

Anyway, finally realizing all this the last few months has made me wonder what I was taught is utter B.S. and what wasn't.

What do you think?

Do preachers promise God can do lots of things he really doesn't do?

Prosperity Gospel only benefits those who preach it. Jesus himself said that we shouldn't be focused on building our treasure here on Earth but instead strive to earn treasures in Heaven through using our worldly treasures to advance God's kingdom. While it's not always easy to hold on to this doctrine, I do believe it will be worth it as it's like scraping in as much money into a comfortable retirement fund as possible.

Wealth and popularity on Earth are not necessarily rewards from God. It's being given extra responsibility to which you will be held to a higher standard on the judgement day.

Prosperity Gospel isn't the only thing I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the preachers who preach, "Get saved cause God has this YUGE plan for you life" crappola. I've been waiting for this "plan" crap for over 25 years. Still have yet to see it. Today, I don't believe the plan crap period!

I told God, "preachers have lied to me so many times about things, I literally don't buy anything ANY of them say now."

God does have a plan for you to render your life to His service. Whether you commit yourself to His plan ... is up to you. It certainly can't be that hard to find a position of service to God ...

What do you think?

Do preachers promise God can do lots of things he really doesn't do?

I always keep in mind the story of Saul and David. Israel wanted a King. The Lord wanted to be their King, but the Israelites wanted someone physical. God anointed Saul as king but He was preparing a David. The way I see it is that Saul was God’s will, but not His hearts desire, but like my father says, David wasn't even God’s heart desire. God wants to be our King.

Why God let some people gain so much fame, I don’t know. I remember I came to Christ though a Joel Osteen service. I was in the lowest point of my life and I desperately needed a Savior. I remember it was the first time I consciously knew I needed Jesus in my life. I also recall another moment when the Lord gave me a dream pointing to a specific chapter of one of Joyce Meyers books. I didn't even own the book, I happened to mention the dream to a friend and she had the book, and there it was, just as He showed me in the dream. So God used both of them in my life, they are not my Pastors but the Lord used them and I don’t question the Lord about it. I’ve also had dreams with other Pastors, people I don’t like, but God is showing me something. I just listen and learn.

The Bible mentions God using a donkey to deliver a message and a prostitute to save the spies, so I don’t really mess with God’s plan and will. The Bible also states that not everyone, even people who were delivering others from demons, will make it to heaven. But that decision is God’s alone.

When I have a problem with a teaching/Pastor I go to the Lord. Also, I used to listen to many Pastors at once and that created a horrible feeling of desperation inside of me because I felt I was dragged by waves. Then one day I realized the Lord assigned me a Pastor, so I started listening to Him. I made my world smaller. If the Pastor will be saved or not I don’t think that’s my problem, although I do pray for him, I believe God is teaching me more about loyalty, respect and obedience. Maybe you can ask Him to give you His perspective.

The story of homeless man Angelo that I quote in posts #1, 2,4,5 here may help you to make sense out of all this........

Has God called some of us to be poor, sick, no arms or legs and persecuted???

Perhaps, The Lord is teaching you to put your trust in no man, but to trust Him alone. " put not your trust in man, for he will fail you, put your trust only in The Lord, for He will never leave you or abandon you." nor will He fail you. How can you believe anything, if so far in your life everyone has failed you? How can you trust anyone, if all has failed you so far? Even your screen name tells a story. Everything you have been looking for and more can be found in Jesus, and in Him alone. He is the One you can trust. He is the One who can heal all that has been done to you. Just take it to Him and bring everything.

1 Timothy 6:3-10. This passage talks about the prosperity gospel I think. It talks about how some twist godliness to be a means to financial gain. It then says that godliness is not necessarily a means to financial gain but a means of contentment. It warns against loving money and how some pierce themselves with pains in an effort to get rich. It says that desiring to be rich is a temptation that can even cause some to ultimately lose faith.

Is there anything too hard for God? If there is, pass let me know. If there isn't, there isn't anything these preachers say God can do, that he can't do. Just because they focus on natural things instead of spiritual, doesn't make what they say false.

My story exactly, I came to Christ after watching Joel Osteen at one of the lowest points in my life. I have since grown to desire meat from milk then. I thank God that He used Joel then because I so desperately needed it. This is the truth evil thrives because good men do nothing. When we notice wayward doctrine being preached it's our duty as believers to ask God to intervene. God still has a plan for the millions who follow these preachers and it's our duty to pray that God's kingdom is manifested on earth as it is in heaven.

These people are people like Joel Osteen.

have listened to Joel few times; wrote one of his messages on my phone memo pad about forgiving parents:
"forgive...move forward...get over a childhood that wasn't so great...get over it...move forward....it may not have been fair...rely on God...God adopts us"

God never promised us an easy life. We grow through hardship. This doesn't mean our whole life will be hard however, because we also have joy and peace. We should seek to cultivate that fruit.
The righteous is never forsaken, nor do His seed beg for bread.
