“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9 RSV). Donald Trump talks peace with Kim Jong-un while the Democrats sit on the sidelines and laugh.

Who is laughing? I see people sharing their concerns because North Korea has a habit of making promises and then not keeping them, but I don't see anyone laughing

You nailed it on the head. Trump talks peace with one of the worst human rights violators of our time, a murderous dictator. He didn't make peace at all. Anyone who is bothered to learn about NK & their long history of making promises they then retract, bothered to find out how vastly different their idea of disarmament & ours are, or even read the "plan" critically would be disappointed in Trump no matter what their political party. He gave to Kim much more than what he got back. Trump gave validation & empowerment to an evil man in a country that is one of the most hostile to Christians in the world. I can't for a second imagine that this pleased God.

Maybe I should have said "ridiculing."

That’s not what Christ was talking about.

Well, Trump met with a murderous tyrant who brought his own portable toilet to the summit on account of wanting to avoid his crap being stolen. Dennis Rodman was there on account of Kim being his fan boy & has received thanks from the White House for it. So. Still I think most folks are more concerned about how Trump validated Kim, failed to secure any reliable plan for actually making peace instead of just talking about it.

Perhaps you would elaborate.
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. - Matthew 5:2-12

There is the whole thing. They are inseparable. You don’t get to say “ Hey look, a peace agreement. Trump must be a son of God”. Is he poor in spirit? Does he mourn? Is he meek? Does he hunger and thirst for righteousness? Is he pure in heart?

Because Trump and Kim Jung Un could be just puppets controlled from behind the scenes, Matthew 5:9 can be applied to just about any kind of human relationship and the settling of differences.

We are on the right track. If we can trade with China and borrow money from them, I don't see why we can't have peaceful relations with North Korea.
Also, being on good terms with North Korea and China could serve as a buffer against radical Islam. As I recall, during the Cold War, a blend of Islam and cultural Christianity was seen as a buffer against communism. That strategy fell apart the with the rise of radical Islam.

Some people would say the same thing about the guys in Metallica. But seems like they have a good understanding and appreciation of what the bible says about drugs and who might be in control of this world. So that would be a good start.

I think it's some kind of fantasy to say that Democrats are sitting on the sidelines laughing, ridiculing, or anything like that. I've seen two major points brought up:

1) We need to be careful with North Korea because they have, in the past, been very willing to sign non-binding agreements, make it seem like things are on the right track, and then turn around and not do anything.

2) Trump gave up joint military exercises and started talk about moving American troops out of the region in exchange for nothing.

Look, I'll be the first to say that it's good we're talking to North Korea. But we need to be careful and, perhaps, our President needs to not give concessions to North Korea in exchange for them just showing up. We're the nation with the position of power. They should be giving up something for us stopping any kind of joint military exercise.

Schumer said by meeting with Kim, Trump has given “a brutal and repressive dictatorship the international legitimacy it has long craved.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday said in a statement that Trump gave Kim concessions in return for “vague promises” without a “clear and comprehensive pathway to denuclearization and non-proliferation.”

They're not laughing, and I'm not laughing either.

If Trump had walked out of that summit with some concrete, measurable concessions from North Korea or with some kind of solid roadmap, I would have cheered it. I still think that it was a net positive overall, but I do worry that Trump's eagerness to be the DEALMASTER(TM) is making is so that he's ready to give up a lot to North Korea to make that deal.

I'm going to be very amused if we end up with a deal nearly identical to the Iran deal, but because Trump made it his worshipers can tell us how great it is and how bad the Iran deal was.

China is brutal and repressive and craves international legitimacy. And we've given it to them. Now Democrats are alarmed and afraid over Trump's dealings with Kim. Not buying it.

Perhaps you would elaborate.

My understanding of that verse is that Christ laid down His life to make peace between God & sinners, and on account of that when we can carry that message of peace to others, we are peacemakers. Our mission here on earth is to fulfill the Great Commission, bringing folks to Christ so they be in peace with Him & have eternal life. It's why I think Trump giving validation to Kim is contrary to that verse, seeing how NK has been brutally hostile to Christians, been oppressive & cruel to all their people. Trump walked away without any sort of reliable plan. Look back at the agreements other American administrations achieved without the POTUS giving NK the dangerous empowerment of a face to face. NK has made repeated promises, the problem is with them not keeping them. Trump didn't do a dang thing to ensure they would this time. Trump made more concessions to Kim than he did for us.

Trump met with this evildoer right after having stomped on peacemaking between the US & our allies who are in countries where Christians can reside without having to hide in fear of their governments. We can go to any of those countries tomorrow & spread the Gospel without fear of being executed or tortured on account of it. The things he said about Trudeau simply don't match up with reality but he's banking on his base not caring enough about the facts. He also spun tales about the Philadelphia Eagles, prioritizing his ego over the truth, which is not something someone who cares about making peace does. Fox News followed his lead down the wrong path on that, but at least to their credit they apologized for saying that players on their knees in prayer had been kneeling in protest.
